have been a customer of this shop for over 30 years. I have seen management and employees come and go. I always had good to great customer service whether it be in the costume department, make-up or tech. I have worked with the shop itself on multiple projects. Yesterday, after finding that my Amazon package wasn't going to arrive until I left town for my event, my assistant and I dropped by to pick up a couple of lighting gels. The parking lot was empty but the sign in the door said OPEN. There were many other signs taped to door saying they no longer carry costumes or wigs. Ok, we needed gels. So we stood there and a friendly associate "let us in." We told her what we needed, as we glanced around at a totally empty store less the product. The manager, Megan or Meghan approached us and we told her what we needed. She seemed a bit bothered that all we needed was gels, or perhaps she didn't like the way we were dressed? We are both working on a big production to take to New Orleans, typical artist attire. I mentioned that I had never seen the store this open and was told that they were now catering to the tv and film industry. Oh very nice, I said...then we proceeded to talk about the gels. Megan seemed irritated that I didn't have the gel numner that I needed and "explained" to me that it could be an issue due to the fact that what I see may project an entirely different hue. I asked if I may see a range of colors in both the blood red spectrum and cobalt blue. Instead of showing me a gel swatch, she went to the back and brought me one red and one blue. As she was ringing me up, I said something to my assistant regarding our next stop. Megan says, "I'm sorry, what did you say?" with a very condescending tone as she may have thought I was talking about her. She continued with her condescending tone. Apparently we were locked in as someone had to let us out of the door. I will NEVER go back here, ever. ...and as far as catering to the "tv and film community," we ARE the tv and film community. I have been in the union for 9 years, I design events nationally and have held a corporate position in the art department of a national theme park. I can handle bad customer service due to someone with a lack of knowledge but with a decent attitude, but to have the experience of someone treating me like a second rate citizen not worthy of her assistance, I say boo!!! Costumes Etc. is only a couple of miles down the road and I have ALWAYS felt welcome there, whether I spend hundreds of dollars or purchase nothing at all. read more

I got an invitation to a Roaring 20s party and first went online trying to buy something to fit me. At 6'4" that's often a difficult task. When it was clear that nothing would arrive in time for the party, I made a desperate phone call here to see if they could help. Yes, they did have 20s suits in stock that would fit me, I was told. What style did I want? When I walked in, I was immediately greeted and shown the 3 styles of 20s suits available. The pinstripe gangster/zoot suit almost fit off the rack, with only minor alterations required. And the rental price was a fraction of what I would have paid to buy one online. "I need Rhett and Scarlett costumes, and I need to take them to South Africa. Can you help?" Apparently, Atlanta Costume can! They didn't even seem too surprised by my mom's request. They were happy to estimate shipping (a whopping $400) and tried to find outfits that were slightly lighter weight and could fit in a suitcase. They also agreed to charge my mom the 3 day rate even though she would have them for 2 weeks. Hooray for that. They've got tons of options in lots of different sizes: any costume you could imagine! The guy helping us was really great about pulling lots of different things: unfortunately most of the dresses were stored in the back room so we couldn't peruse ourselves. Rental fees are usually in the neighborhood of $75 depending on the fanciness of the costume: not a bad price! In addition to costume rental they've got a bunch of stuff to buy up front. They lose a star because the place seemed dirty: I saw a dead cockroach on the floor and the whole place was just kind of musty and gross. Then again, I'm not sure how else one could store a bunch of costumes that have been used a bajillion times. read more

I will give Norcostco 2stars for the fact that their staff was nice. I drove 4.5 hrs from Brunswick GA because of all the raving reviews. I must admit my heart was broken when i walked in. I am used to makeup houses such as Frends and Namies (both in Ca) Yes, they carry Ben Nye, a few Skin Illustrator pallets , have a tiny okay selection for airbrush makeup. But as far as they carry "everything" is an understatement. Maybe today was a day where they were out of stock on most products, i dont know. If you are from this area, im sure this place is great. I would say to order off of their website, rather than go in. They have a very small selection of prosthetics and an even smaller section of tattoos that are not Tinsley transfers like they advertise. Wigs were also. .okay. Anyway, definitely a locals MUA place, but not for me :-( read more

Highly disappointing for what's supposed to be a national chain. Again, my pesky desire for good customer service lends itself to my less than sparkling review of this establishment. The employees here appear to be bored college students just biding their time on the clock, and not all that helpful. I can't really speculate on the selection of costumes, because I was there for the stage makeup. There is an okay selection of brands and tools, but when I couldn't find certain things, the employees were kinda clueless about the products that I asked about, and I know that I was pretty straightforward and clear in stating my query. I also witnessed another customer come in after me to ask about how to do something for a production in a few days; I found the question kinda... well I just thought it was dumb question to ask in crunch time, and I didn't think it would be possible to master that technique in such a short time, but hey, I think that it was the duty of the employees to at least humor the guy. They gave him a really wack and unhelpful response. I left with a few goodies, but not all that I'd come for, and I am gonna shop around for a better costume shop. In spite of their name, stage and studio lighting, that's not all that they are. Well, at least not in October. I've driven by them a ton of times but this was my first visit to Norcostco. They were set up like a costume store with a great special effects and stage makeup dept. mostly from Ben Nye. They had a few costumes/accessories for sale and more for rent. Also for rent was a coffin, bubble machine, disco balls, fog machine, etc...They seemed to have a good selection of hats and wigs and a few crowns if that's what you're looking for. I asked for help in the prosthetic dept. and the sales person was helpful but I wouldn't say an expert in the subject. As for pricing, they were reasonable. Some of their theatrical makeup was pricier than the seasonal Halloween products normally found elsewhere. If you're looking for regular Halloween costumes, there are places with bigger selections and better prices. But if you're looking to do something more unique and more professional this would be a great place to start. read more

The staff there was extremely helpful, listening to my ideas for what I was aiming for. They offered plenty of suggestions and recommendations for cheaper alternatives to some items that I was a little hesitant to purchase due to financial constraints. This place is tucked off of the Monroe dr and Armour dr exit on i85 towards Peachtree, not Cumming. I personally don't deal with theatrics, but this place is pretty cool and the employees are so knowlegeable and helpful. My lady comes to grab certain makeup nick nacks that your regular makeup stores wouldn't have. You'd be surprised the makeup must-haves that ladies use everyday, are best found in a shop supplying makeup artist for movies, plays etc. They have a cool selection of costumes, wigs and wholesale makeup supplies. Just rented an American Indian costume for presenting Kateri Tekawitha, first Native American Saint, at our Vacation Bible School. The kids loved the costume. I was thrilled when they asked me if I was a real Indian. The access to the store was easy. The staff was pleasant & met my needs. The facility & costumes were clean, ironed & ready when I came to pick up. Was only looking for the Indian costume, but the store appeared to have a large variety of costumes for many different events or occasions. I work within walking distance of this store, so I decided to stop here to see if I could find a costume for the annual Dragon*Con cosplay convention last year (2013). In case you do not know what Dragon*Con is, it's similar to the Comic Con convention held in San Diego and nearly as large. It is held every Labor Day weekend in Atlanta. People there are dressed as superheroes, comic book characters, science fiction characters, horror movie monsters, etc. And the people who attend look forward to this convention like kids do Christmas. Anyway, on my lunch break, I stopped by expecting to see high end Stormtrooper outfits or anything else suitable for Dragon*Con. I'd read the good reviews on this place so I was anticipating more whan that I got. Maybe if you're into make-up you'll find what you need, as time you enter the store there are sections of make-up to the right. Also, there are more quality women's costumes than those for men. But the costumes seemed more like your normal Halloween kids fare. You can find most of this stuff at Party City. The closest thing they had to a Stormtrooper outfit was cheap plastic Stormtrooper mask with a pair of white tights! It was something I could find anywhere. I thought Norcostco was where you could find the good stuff. Some of the pirate costumes looked and smelled used. They do have a book you can look through to order "mascot" outfits for rent. The outfits were better than most of the stuff sold in the store but most of them were not of anyone you'd recognize and still not all that spectacular. They had an ok selection of masks, but again, you could find most of this at the Halloween Spirit stores. Their best masks are located so high up on the wall that you need a stepladder in order to reach them. I ended up purchasing a V for Vendetta mask and wearing it to Dragon*Con that year. I wore it for a few hours and after I took it off once I got home, a hard section of the mask left an imprint on my forehead that lasted for days. Oh well.... And the customer service is horrible. Most of the people who work there appear to be annoyed that you even walked into the store. If you ask a question, you'll get shrugged shoulders and a groan along with your service. Most of them are in their late teens and early 20s but even the adults in their 30s and up were just as bad. And if you end up not liking what they recommend, they will watch you like you're trying to steal. Really?! I walked in the store barehanded and most of their costumes are hanging full length on racks. Lousy customer service combined with being constantly watched while trying to shop creates an environment I'd rather not be in when I'm trying to filter through the racks in hopes of finding some golden nugget I may have overlooked. Dragon*Con is only once a year and it's a big deal in the cosplay world. So you want something that will stand out; not something that screams, "Trick or treat!" I really wanted to like this store. I really did. But I cannot lie and build it up to be more than it really is, which is just a little above Party City (but with less friendlier customer service). P.S. One thing I am a anal about and is my pet peeve is excellent customer service. I do not like rude people/companies and will not give my money to them. Clint was the opposite. The store is awesome also. They have the best stage/theatrical makeup you can buy and the prices are cost efficient and won't break your bank. It pains me to write this review, but I feel everyone else should be warned. After having great experiences in the past... I came into Atlanta Costume recently to purchase a wig and had a clear indication of what I wanted. In asking an associate for help, I was steered to purchase a different item entirely. Upon returning home to open the item, it clearly would not work and I had to go a different route. When calling the store to nicely explain the situation... I was told all sales are final. When I asked if it mattered that I came in looking for something else and was steered to a solution by their associate, I was told it didn't matter. They said it was my choice to listen to their employee. When I asked for the owner's contact information... I was told I couldn't have it. So basically, I was told that they won't stand by their own employees as customer service reps of their store and the owner won't talk to you if you get taken in by listening to them. You would be better off purchasing from online or any other merchant that stands behind their product. It is a shame, because they have been around for a long time and I have had memories of finding interesting things here. read more

I had been using a follow spotlight rental company for three separate big events each year for the past couple of years. When they raised my rental rate by almost 60% it was time to shop around.
