It was the perfect refresher for what I used to know, and an eye-opening lesson in everything I still had to learn! Dale and Marcellus are wonderful. They are firm when they need to be, but friendly, and their passion for rider safety really shines through. I was incredibly impressed not only by their knowledge of riding but also by how they managed a class of different ages and backgrounds, all while training two upcoming instructors with precision. As long as you show up on time and follow their lead, you'll do great. Highly recommend this for beginners or anyone returning to the saddle. It's been 2 years since I passed the motorcycle training class here in May 2023, and I'm very happy to say that I'm still riding and also commuting on my motorcycle! I took and passed the beginner's class in May 2023. The location in the Southland Mall parking lot in Hayward is very convenient, and they have motorcycles to accommodate shorter and petite riders like myself. You have to request it in advance so that they can save one for you. I had never ridden a motorcycle prior to taking the beginner class here, and I really appreciate learning the basics. On my first day though, I fell while trying to shift gears and the clutch broke. I had to be rescheduled to come back another weekend, which thankfully was free of charge. It was kind of a pain to be on standby, especially when they don't have class at the Hayward location every weekend, but I was able to come back 2 weeks later and came early enough to join that class. That weekend, I barely passed by 1 point! Instruction-wise, Alfonso is fantastic! He was there the first weekend I was there, and he was so patient and able to explain things that help beginner riders like me understand certain concepts of riding and handling a motorcycle. Sadly, he was only there the first weekend I was there. The other instructor, Dale, was there both weekends. He's okay, but his method of teaching is yelling out what you're doing wrong and to do something, which honestly isn't very helpful. He's otherwise a nice guy, but not the most effective instructor. But at least I passed under his instruction. The admin, Taylor, is super helpful and communicative over both email and phone. After passing the class, I was able to go to DMV to take the written test so that I can get my driver's license to reflect the M1 license. I now have my own motorcycle, and wish there were intermediate classes held at the Hayward location too. read more

It was time to renew my driver's license, so I decided to get my M1 endorsement while I was at it. I signed up for the Basic CMSP Course at Norcal Moto, which includes a 5-6 hour online classroom portion and two hands-on motorcycle training days. My instructors Marcelo and Horace (Instructors on 10/11-12) were great. They were informative, helpful and very experienced. I had zero prior riding experience and had never been on a motorcycle before. I do drive a manual car, which helped me understand clutch control and shifting, but riding a motorcycle is a completely different challenge. You're balancing, counter-steering, and managing the physics of two wheels. During one of the exercises, I stalled the bike, lost my balance, fell off the bike and dropped it. This one experience itself was super valuable. I came into this course with no idea how to ride, and I can confidently say I left it feeling comfortable to operate a motorcycle safely, while recognizing and understanding what I need to improve and work on. I highly recommend anyone interested in riding to come take the course and learn in a safe, controlled environment with knowledgeable instructors! read more

I want to express my gratitude to NorCal Moto for the structured approach in both theoretical and practical training. I can say that if you listen and memorize everything said during the online classes, you will possess 90% of the information needed for the written test. I was searching a motorcycle training class and came across with NorCal Moto on yelp. I decided to take classes from them after I've done my search and have this new journey. First, I would like to mention about how they schedule the classes (there are two classes offered:online zoom class for knowledge test and skill testing and you get both when you pay for the MTC) : I love how they offer flexibility regarding class day and time. I was so happy with the instructors. They are very helpful and if you have any questions, make sure you ask them. They never get tired of answering and they want to make sure you understand everything they teach. I passed the classes and am so happy for this new journey. I'm waiting for my DL389 to be sent to my home. Also, I am considering to take the next class which will improve my safety. It's been many years since I've ridden a motorcycle and I decided to take the motorcycle training class with my son since he has a motorcycle. We finished the online training course prior to starting the hands-on training at the Southland Mall Parking lot in Hayward. The course instructors, Marcello and Dale were very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. The hands on training was on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons and you learn a lot in the compacted schedule from starting the motorcycle to how to maneuver through cones, how to turn, swerving and immediate braking. On Sunday afternoon, you then take the proficiency course to demonstrate that you learned all of the skills sufficiently. If you are considering riding a motorcycle, scooter or high-powered E-bike, I fully recommend taking this course so you can have fun out there while increasing your chances of not getting injured. They provide small maneuverable motorcycles as well as helmets. You need to bring motorcycle qualified gloves, footwear, long sleeve shirt and pants without showing any skin to avoid any injury. read more

My experience with Northern California Motorcycle Training in Hayward was very unpleasant. This is my first time ever riding a motorcycle and I was told that I could learn how to ride one with this class. The name of the instructor I was assigned for both days of my training was Sue. Sue was very unprofessional, rude, and a very difficult instructor. I'm not sure if Sue had a problem with me based on how I look or if she is just always like this with everybody, but one thing I do know for sure is that I felt uncomfortable and set up for failure the whole time during both my days of training. The first interaction I had with Sue was during the online zoom class we had in the morning. She asked the whole class why we wanted to learn how to ride a motorcycle. Everybody gave the answer that they wanted to commute to work and she responded that it would be good. However, it was my turn I answered: "I want to learn so I can ride with my friends." She didn't seem to really like my answer and responded to my answer with "hmm". After the online class we finally go to the range for the skills practice. There I met Sue in person along with a weird interaction. We had to verify our identity so I gave her my I.D. to confirm who I was. She looks at it and asks me "Is this really you?" I respond "yes that is me" and she just says okay and hands me I.D. back. Day 1 Class started at around 11:30 AM and we were supposed to finish by 4:30 P.M., but for some reason we were kept on the range until 5:30 P.M. without notice. I found that to be very unprofessional because she was very stern on us arriving to class 15 minutes earlier otherwise we would risk getting dropped from the class. Interesting how us students have to be punctual, but yet the instructor can keep us for a whole hour, not respecting our time and not facing any consequences. The class had a total of around 15-18 students in our class. During our first break, all the students were talking to each other and we all brought up that Sue was being very hard on us, rude and unprofessional. We even jokingly asked if all the instructors are supposed to be like this? There's a reason why I mentioned earlier how many students we started out with, because by the end of the day we ended up with around 12 students left. I'm not sure why they left, but I could only assume they probably felt as uncomfortable as I did with an instructor that only brings up negative things for 6 hours. Yes, 6 whole hours. Sue ended up informing me that I did not pass the class. She said I drove too slow, which is interesting because this is a motorcycle SAFETY course. I also know for a fact that I was driving around 15 MPH, which was the speed she told us to be driving. After failing the class I felt discouraged and almost wanted to quit on my journey of getting a motorcycle license, however I ultimately decided that I'm not going to let somebody ruin my joy and signed up for another class. Unfortunately that decision ended up costing me an additional $200 dollars. Not once did I feel like I she was there to encourage or help me succeed in passing the class. She was only there to critique me and point out every mistake I was making with a rude attitude. If she really wanted to help me pass she could have pulled me aside and coached me or gave me some advice right? I'm not sure if Sue treated me this way because of my appearance or not but I do know that she made me feel really uncomfortable and almost made me want to quit learning how to ride a motorcycle. read more

I would recommend class and course to anyone new to riding a motorcycle. So much useful information to assist with being a better rider.

I just finished this class last weekend and my instructors were Sue and Quentin like other people I felt like Sue was giving me a rough time even though I felt like I was trying my best. I had a hard time understanding how countersteering works and how to hit both breaks, the gear shifter and the clutch at the same time when coming to a stop. I did notice a few times that I felt like she was disappointed with me...it actually helped me want to do better and not get in my feelings and feel sorry for myself. That evening I watched videos on YouTube and read articles that explained everything to me so that I could be ready for the next day. Lo and behold I did MUCH better the 2nd day and I felt like Sue was laughing with me and not at me anymore . All in all it was a great class and Sue and Quentin commended all of us that passed afterwards saying what a great job we did. Motorcycle riding isn't for everyone and hey if you can't handle tough love maybe just stick to driving on 4 wheels ‍ read more

Dale and James were the course instructors for my class, and they were both great. I selected the erider course which means I took an online class and then the riding portion was over the course of a weekend. I would do it again, it was worth the money (a small investment for your safety), and I have learned so much. They have a great program that takes you from 0 knowledge and riding skills up to a good level at a comfortable pace. This is a safe place for you to learn, learning and making mistakes out on the road is not safe or smart. I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to get a motorcycle license and a bike.
