I did the 2 week intro class pass because it was the same price as a single drop-in. I really took advantage of it because I was taking classes back to back every single day for those two weeks. One Saturday I took all their morning classes. That's like 5 in a row. It was amazing. I had so much fun! There's like a 15 min break in between classes. I love every single class that I took! The only downside to this is I live so far (South Bay) so to beat traffic on weekdays I would come super early (around 2-3pm) and sleep in my car parked at the Trader Joe's parking lot and wait for their 4pm class. I even considered moving to Oakland just so I can start taking their classes again and be in a closer vicinity. I love what they stand for (body positivity). I love the staff. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. If you try one instructor and don't like their vibe or playlist, I encourage you to try another! There's always someone out there for you that fits what you're looking for. I cannot recommend this place enough and wish they had options for day passes. I wish I could come in for one day and take back to back classes again. Hoping they open a studio in the South Bay!!

Not sure if it is a women's only space, but definitely has that feel. There was a spiritual/therapy element to the class I tried that felt jarring to me to be sandwiched between upbeat sexy dancing - I go to a dance class to have fun and work up a sweat, not get a surprise therapy moment in the middle, but ymmv. The style is follow-along, eg you have to watch to know what steps to do, because there is little to no verbal instruction on the steps/dancing. I asked if they had any classes with verbal cueing and they said no, they "encourage movement over perfection." My real complaint though is that they are very big on inclusivity and in a lot of ways walk the walk, but not with their virtual classes. Virtual classes are an accessibility need for folks with various kinds of disabilities, chronic pain or chronic illnesses, who are immunocompromised, who have care-taking obligations and may not be able to leave the home, and more. The virtual offerings are just in-person classes being live-streamed and they don't translate that well. Especially with the lack of verbal cueing, which means you have to stare at the screen the whole time... Which is not a great modus operandi for dancing in general, and really doesn't work with moves that have you move to the side, turn around, etc.! It makes sense that it doesn't translate well because the classes are designed for the in-person experience, not for streaming. Streaming is an afterthought. It is just super disappointing that despite all the focus on inclusivity, they offer zero classes that are designed for a high-quality virtual learning experience. They refunded my membership when I complained about it, which I appreciated and is classy, but I'd love to see the focus on inclusivity actually include sick/disabled people and others who benefit from virtual offerings.

Attendance at her virtual classes has been great which makes it fun, notwithstanding the fact that you end up using speaker view on Zoom to watch Lynda and not anybody else. Virtual classes has been great because you don't have to spent time driving to your workout. It's also great if you'd rather not have anyone else in the class looking at you because everyone is watching Lynda. Lynda has one hour classes as well as half hour workouts throughout the week at various times, so it's easy to catch a workout. i'm beginning to wonder if when the pandemic is over, whether she will still have workouts on-line because virtual workouts seem to work so well. What makes Lynda's classes special is not just her wonderful personality and enthusiasm, but the fact that she is a professional dancer with a degree from UCSB in Dance, plus a lifetime of experience in dance and Latin music. Samba Tuesdays are held at Silki Studios in Oakland with a Samba Foundations class, an All Levels class, and Intermediate/Advanced level. The class schedule also includes a Cardio Samba class on Thursday at Ashkenaz and Brazilian dance and kids' classes on Sundays at La Pena. All classes are led by experienced teachers who are positive and encouraging. I appreciate the attention to proper technique and the challenging of learning choreography. My samba has leveled up in a short amount of time--and I've been taking classes all over the Bay Area for over a decade! There was a similar but different 1-day workshop she offered, so a friend & I registered. Unfortunately it was a triggering and low key traumatizing experience for me. For the record, I am not illogical & I can see multiple perspectives, even if I don't agree. I even acknowledge there's 3 sides to a story. It's frustrating to have to write something negative about being in WOC spaces, as I solely believe in the uplifting and empowerment of WOC in today's society. But businesses are businesses, and humans are humans. Here are my reflections from my experience at this studio with this particular instructor & business owner: 1) Registration and confirmation systems were too complicated. Instagram is not a registration system. I get small businesses try to find free systemic ways to invoice & track, but coupled with crude customer service, it just should have been a hard pass on my Saturday time. I should've given into my intuitive hits at the registration part. 2) While the ambiance invited some welcoming energy (other dancers), and sympathetically I get that it's difficult managing groups throughout the day- being yelled at to form in line & talked to as if we are elementary kids gets tiring. And annoying. Also, I've never been lectured through a mirror before. Can she invest in a microphone though? It was hard to hear her through all the music & levels of class chatter. 3) I never signed a consent form to be recorded! To add--there was ZERO disclaimer or prerequisite of a previous heels or recent heels dance class experience required named... ANYWHERE. 4) I personally am not trying out for any music videos or music tours. As stated, I was seeking a space for fun, sensual, & embodied movement. Coupled with the weird registration process, random yelling, no consent or disclaimer for prior or recent class experience suggested- I was not feeling safe or comfortable under her teachings. Well, she caught it towards the tail end of the class, & managed to turn around this time, & called me & my non-embodied self out in front of everybody. Then proceeded with a lecture. I should've walked out, but I knew I needed to finish the workshop. Periodt. Obviously I left extremely disappointed & disheartened. But at the end of the day, it's all good. You live & you learn, especially about spaces you are/aren't meant to be in. Teachers have different styles, and students will gravitate to who they resonate with. Until I find another space that calls me to try again, I'll be grinding & twerking in the shower or mirror for now!

She was great, full of energy and helpful. After one class, I went to a couple more intro classes eventually I purchased the 10 pack package (more bang for your buck) and subsequently moved to an annual membership after about 3 months of consistent classes. Each class and instructor I have taken has been wonderful. The entire staff is knowledgeable, encouraging and willing to offer feedback and assistance. I have taken multiple classes with the convenience of the annual pass. (Ie intro, low flow, twerk, poleography, pole workout, inversion etc). I have nothing but positive feedback about the instructors. Zhara's energy and abilities are awesome! Kelli's intro to pole and inversion class is wonderful. I always feel challenged but encourage that I will continue to progress. Kate's breakdown of the technical details with intro to inversion sessions are amazing. It feels like having a private session. Vickya's exercises in intro to pole particularly looking in the mirror and watching myself has helped me boost my self esteem. Tink's boot camp class has helped me get in better shape. C Michelle's energy and class on twerking has opened my eyes to the art form. Kat's kindness and beautiful choreography in low flow has helped me gain confidence in my own sensuality and body. For someone who never been on a pole 5 months ago and was shy to now being able to climb and starting to learn inversion, this studio has been amazing. So glad I took that first intro class and took a chance in myself. Now I can't get enough!!! I can't say enough positive things about this studio. In a short time I have learned so much and am excited weekly for my pole classes. I have met diverse folks of all backgrounds and it's beautiful to be part of this community.
