I'm not that picky of an eater, but... holy crap this place is bad. I'll be blunt: the noodles were inedible. I ordered Pad Thai, which isn't exactly hard to make (which is why I ordered it!). There was plenty of chicken (which is good), but the noodles were so offensively bland that I couldn't stand eating them. I genuinely suspect that cardboard would have more taste. This was one of the worst places I have been to. The reason why I rate this restaurant this low is because the service was HORRIBLE! At one point we were the only people inside and we told them that we (My family) were done with our food. It took them 20 minutes until we finally just got up and had to ask them for the check. When we got to the point where they asked if we wanted to tip them, we said heck no. The food there was just okay and their Bao Buns were HORRIBLE, they added some type of saucy, yogurt- like liquid into the bao bun which just totally messed up the bun itself. I will say though they do have a nice ambiance it was very nice and clean but that's all they have going for them. Have had 2 meals here with spouse and we are very familiar with Thai. Spring rolls, vegetarian excellent not greasy and tasty. Wife loved the veggie pad Thai. We are Americans and go often to our local places. She said this was best version ever, not too sweet, fresh ingredients. I had a papaya salad. Another reviewer complained no shrimp etc but there is no hard and fast rule other than papaya lime juice some pepper etc. theirs was perfect. My noodle dish was excellent, hot,pepper on the side to add as you will. Shrimp were very fresh. Had a salmon in teriyaki, perfectly cooked, good saucing , veggies and rice. Duck buns very tasty in hoisin. Prices very reasonable portions fine, staff very welcoming, clean, nice ambiance. Congrats Edinburgh, you have a winner. read more

Early evening during the Festival, and I was in need of some fast food before a show. This place looked like just the ticket and as they had several veggie options available, I thought I'd give it a try. The service was fast and attentive without being in-your-face, and although I don't think the food would win any awards in a Thai cooking competition, it was okay and quite reasonably priced. This is not somewhere I'd return to if I was looking for a good Thai meal, but for a quick noodle fix it does the job. read more

We wanted to get a quick bite to eat and came across this resto. I love Asian food because I'm Asian. Haha! Both my husband and I ordered egg fried rice and egg rolls. The egg fried rice was good. The egg rolls need to be cooked a little bit more because you don't see the the brown color of the wrapper. They looked like they were still raw but they weren't. They tasted alright. I am.convinced that this resto's market is the younglings because the music is so loud and they were playing hip hop and dance club type of music. One of the staff was busy sampling ice cream. I know there's a part of you that's inching towards trying this place, but listen to me when I warn you: Don't do it. Don't do it. Just don't even think about it. The smells are delicious, but very deceiving when it comes to my experience with Noodle 'N Ice. My friend and I decided to give this place a try since we've both passed it and hadn't tried it during our time in Edinburgh. I ordered the Pad See Ew and my friend ordered a soup. She originally wanted the Tom Kha, but when asked whether or not it had coconut milk (as it wasn't listed as an ingredient), the waitress said no. Subsequently, we were left puzzled. Coconut milk is a main ingredient in this Thai staple, and yet it was missing. This should have been a warning sign. But did we listen? No. Our stomachs reasoned that since we were there, we might as well give it a shot, convincing us to stay. I went ahead and ordered my Pad See Ew and what I got back was a box full of noodles drenched in fish sauce and over seasoned vegetables. The amount of sodium I consumed in one bite was enough to clog my arteries. It was preposterous. I was dumbfounded because it was obvious the chef didn't taste his creation--a very troubling habit when you're heavy handed with the fish sauce. I was appalled. So there you have it. Take my warning and go with it. You can stay for the smells. The smells are free. But if you're thinking about placing an order, be careful as you tread these salty waters. read more

Noodle 'n' Ice opened up in August or so and looked like a modern Asian fusion and Thai influenced place with reasonable prices. They have long communal tables and are a bit like Wagamama. I was needing a quick bite to eat before heading to the Yelp Shimmy Hug evening tonight so I popped in for some soup. I had the Tom Kha traditional Thai soup with coconut soup which sounded lovely. It was really reasonable at £3.50 but it wasn't particularly coconutty and had a different, hard to place flavour of the broth. The chicken and mushrooms were ok but there were little green shoots that were fibrous and didn't seem edible or at least digestible. It wasn't to my taste. I'd perhaps come back to try the Thai green curry or noodles but it's too bad they don't seem to do lunch prices. It's more of a lunch type of place anyway and was really quiet at dinnertime. read more

I unfortunately have to give noodle n ice only two stars. I've been here before and it had been very good but unfortunately tonight it was lacking to say the least. Instead of the flat chow fun noodles it came with skinny noodles. There was a burnt taste to the chicken and the whole dish in general. On the menu it clearly states the dish cost £9.95 but I was charged £10.95. When I brought this up the server said it was a misprint on the menu. The menu states that the pad see ew is one of their signature dishes. I would have to disagree. read more

Maybe it's because I'm half Thai, so my standards are quite high, but I also noticed the two Scottish gentlemen sitting next to me didn't finish the in their words, "tasteless" food. I really wanted to like this place. The menu and the atmosphere of the restaurant all seemed promising, but the food generally lacked in flavor. My friend and I ordered the Pad Khing Chicken, Tom Yum Goong, and Chicken Fried Rice..all disappointing. Tom Yum was flavorless, Pad Khing was overly watery and sweet (could be mistaken for a soup), and the fried rice..mushy..poorly seasoned. This is becoming my favorite place to grab lunch or dinner. Service is very friendly and fast; they regularly check on their customers but aren't overbearing. The atmosphere is relaxed; decor is minimalist but more stylish and higher quality than most restaurants in the same price range and area. The food is always delicious and portions are generously sized. I have to admit I always order the same thing, but I've taken several friends there who have tried a range of meals, and none of them have ever left anything on their plates! The food is also well-presented - nothing mind-blowing, but always nicely laid out and good quality china and cutlery (especially given the relatively low prices). Unfortunately, it's often emptier than other similar restaurants in the area - I have no idea why, as it seems to me that they have far better value-for-money than nearby Asian/Thai restaurants, especially now that they've reduced their prices even further. I also like the food, not to mention the atmosphere, more than at the other similar options nearby (e.g. Yocoko, Ting Thai or Red Box). I'm guessing it's either because they're relatively new, or because I'm going at the wrong times. Hopefully they'll stick around, I can't wait for my next meal here! read more

Popped in for some dinner with friends, saw the prices and thought they must confident this is top quality Asian - Thai fusion. However the food was....uh...yukkk. Imagine a cheap chineese takeway then 10x worse. Literally everything on the plate was a joke and not cooked properly by a long shot. We all ordered quite a range of different meals so finding out all the meals were gastly stopped us all from eating after a few bites. The service staff was allot of spanish girls not speaking english and being rude plus one brazilian guy or something walking around totally clueless. When they picked up our plates they did not ask if we liked it alltough all of them were practically full. Paying the bill again no mention if we were happy or satisfied with our meals (which we were clearly not). All in all don't expect an eatery expierence rather a expensive comedy show. read more

The most horrendous experience I have ever had in any type of food establishment - and I've been to countless in numerous countries, from street food and fast-food joints to Michellin-starred restaurants. I have just arrived in Edinburgh with my elderly parents, we thought this would be a nice place to grab a bit at, but my father was mistreated in the most absurd manner by the waitress (Marilyn, as per receipt) - who clearly should not be allowed to work in any environment in which there's any kind of contact with customers. She mocked my father, said he doesn't know how to speak English - not only an unacceptable thing to say, but also untrue! He may not be fully proficient as I am (and I was there to help), but oddly enough, the waitress' English is actually much worse - not that it should matter at all, but quite interesting, considering her mockery of my dad. The waitress was incredibly impatient, rushed us to choose something within five seconds after informing us that they didn't have the lambchops my father had ordered ten minutes prior... And then she got confused with our order (not a problem, it happens), but tried to blame it on my parents, as if implying they are senile or something, asides from mocking my father's English. We cancelled the orded altogether and paid for the water that we had drank. We told the only other employee who was there, a polite waiter, about the incident, but this report seriously needs to reach the owner. This experience almost ruined the first day of our vacation, and people - especially paying customers - should not be disrespected, EVER. We are very polite people and were going to stay there for the meal despite the waitress' clear impatience, but that person clearly dislikes human beings, and the way she treated my elderly dad escalated, so we left. Up for a long weekend with my mother. Place seemed nice and clean , but very basic decor. No music so felt a little awkward eating in silence. Food was ok nothing amazing). I am a traveler , and while in Edinburgh for just a day I tried this restaurant as the menu included my favorite stir fry , Thai cashew nut ( pad med mammoung ). This included a Japanese style steamed rice. I have had this dish in hundreds of Thai restaurants including Bangkok , and this was one of the very best I have ever had. I chose the prawn version , but any choice of meat or vegetable would be exceptional. Very satisfying ! read more

I'm surprised this place only has a few reviews! I ate here several times during my summer in Edinburgh. I especially enjoyed the pad thai and green curry chicken. The servers are very friendly. All in all, a reasonably priced option for thai fusion style food. read more
