At first glance I thought this rather plain looking cafeteria-stye eatery near the bus-station in…read morethe Myer centre was probably just another one of those Asian greasy spoons where you can fill a takeaway container with fried rice, sweet and sour everything, beef and black bean etc. But then I realised their bain marie housed some really interesting and authentic looking Yum Cha style delicacies and of course, there's the titular Shanghainese noodles. They also do the popular bubble tea and a range of frappes, but when I visited the selection was a bit limited as they were out of quite a few of the flavoured syrups. The two ladies who served me (I got the impression the older one was the mother and the younger one her daughter) were very apologetic and lovely about the whole thing. In the end I settled on the 'peppermint black tea' with 'pearl jelly'. I also picked up a snack, one of their intriguing 'tea leaf eggs', which as the lady described is an egg hard-boiled in tea. While the effect of the tea infusion could be seen in the egg's discolouration, I'm not sure if I could identify the tea flavour on a blind taste. It was yummy though. I'd love to go back and try the noodles and some of their other bain marie treats like their dumplings, whole grilled fish, red bean buns and maybe even chicken feet if I'm feeling adventurous.

Best authentic Chinese in the city…read more Is it a happy coincidence that this place is directly opposite the bus-stop for the main Sunnybank bus? It can be a little tricky to find if you're not specifically looking for it or you're catching a 130, but when you do find it you will be rewarded. They have yum cha stuff in the bain maries including various types of steamed buns and they're the biggest BBQ porn buns I've ever had! They also serve noodles, and meal sets including roast duck or pork. As per habbit when at Chinese eateries, I ordered the roast duck meal set and a pork bun. To be honest, I would've been satisfied with just the pork bun it was that big, but it was good to try more stuff. The roast duck came with succulent duck, a huge bowl of rice, steamed vegetables and a bowl of soup for around $13, the duck was so god damn good, saucy and tender and the meal was excellent value. They shop is extremely authentic and it shows in their customer base; only white guy in the entire dining room ;-). If you're on the ground floor of the myer centre and are going to settle for KFC or McDonald's, walk straight past them and head over for an awesome feed that will fill you up. Ps. Unlike a lot of the sushi joins in the city being run by Koreans, this place is Chinese run by Chinese

It's a Chinese takeaway that doesn't have a million things on the menu. They've kept the number of dishes down to nineteen and that means that they're cooking them everyday and getting better at them. There is a limited amount of rice dishes. My favourite is the nasi-goreng. It's spiced just enough to give your day a kick but not to make your pallet burn. As far as noodles go, the Healthy Noodle Bar delivers in spades. Where most Chinese/noodle takeaways are very oily, this place does the opposite. Every meal that I've had here has tasted fresh and has never ever left that gunky residual regret I sometimes get ordering this style of food. I recommend that you get into the traditional pad-Thai, it has stacks of chicken tossed though flat noodles and vegetable with The Noodle Bar's own home made Thai sauce.

Our order consisted of 3 menu items: 1 Combo box 1 Mongolian Beef 1 Seafood Nasi Goreng The first thing I noticed was the service. Very quick, very friendly and very professional. The store was immaculately clean and well presented and the food looked incredibly fresh. They do have a smaller menu than many noodle shops but don't let that put you off. They have all the favorite items covered and you wont be disappointed with the results. They cook the food perfectly and it tastes superb. Not oily or greasy, and not covered in sauce. I wont be visiting any other Noodle places on the peninsula now after going here. Trust me, give it a go and you will, too!

About time I review My Pho Bar. This was actually my first pho experience ever. I was always…read moreconvinced I would hate pho, but when I first arrived in Australia this place was one of the first restaurants some family members wanted me to try. I can officially say I'm a pho addict now. I love pho and I love my pho bar. I've dined in on both weekends and weekdays and have never had a bad experience. It is modern and clean, nice and airy as well. Always start with the spring rolls, they're always stuffed with flavour and perfect to snack on while waiting for your main. My favourite pho bowl is the "my spicy", the chicken and beef is always perfectly tender and the broth is to die for. It's not actually very spicy, so I take full advantage of the serve yourself chilli bar and add some heat to my bowl. The service can sometimes be a little slow but it's very rare to see more than one waitress at a time so I understand, and it's always worth the wait. There's a "Super Bowl challenge" which I have yet to attempt, check out the pictures on the wall of all the challengers, you'd have to make sure your stomach has been empty for days to beat this one!

And here, for $12 you can get a generous serving of it, with your choice of up to 3 toppings. The owners have just opened recently in the little shopping centre off Kooringal Drive right next to my favourite Sushi 79 and they are making a killing of it. No more do we have to drive all the way to Darra for our noodle soup, no more do we need to wipe the tables clean ourselves... no more do we have to ask dodgy or not dodgy? These guys are the real deal. They charge 3 dollars more than the places in Darra, but they bring you the cuisine with fresh ingredients, a clean atmosphere and elegant cutlery and bowls. These guys have put some thought into revamping the daggy noodle shop in the suburbs and on a Friday night the place is pretty busy. They are also the home of the SUPER BOWL CHALLENGE worth $35. Equalling 4 servings of the normal bowl of noodle soup, should you finish it in the hour, you get it for free, and your picture and name on the board of fame. Many have tried (2 women even) and none have succeeded so far... but give it time because the place has only been open for less than a few months. You need to call ahead to tell them if you're planning on taking the challenge but it's very exciting when someone does, they get an introduction with a microphone and everyone looks. It's a pretty big bowl too so it's not for the faint hearted. What a great little place, the western suburbs are looking up and putting themselves on the map with cuisine like this. Awesome Pho. Open 7 Days!
