LONG REVIEW: Home remodeling can be one of the most STRESSFUL and time-consuming projects you will ever embark upon! I'd rather have 4 root canals done at the same time without local anesthesia!! That's how much I was looking forward to our recent full-home remodel after hearing horrible stories from friends and neighbors about their experiences. I spent weeks researching and then interviewing 7 different designers to land the right one for our job. Boy, did we hit the jackpot with Sandra Blank of Blank Space Designs in Los Gatos!! Sandra was the perfect combination I needed: expertise in the field, outstanding vendor contacts (everyone loves her!), excellent communication skills, calmness and humor! All at a very reasonable price that fit my tight budget. INCREDIBLY ENJOYABLE & FUN is how I would describe the design process with Sandra. She helped me to create a design style, then delivered 3D photo realistic slides to bring our remodel to life! Sandra worked collaboratively with me and our contractor to implement in a timely manner. We are so happy! We are new to the Morgan Hill area and like many folks purchased new construction. the furniture and decor we had from our last home just didn't fill the space and wasn't a good match for the farmhouse style from the builder. Plus all the furniture we had was modern and it was way too low to the ground and too boxy looking for these high ceilings and real wood floors. I spent so much money and countless hours sourcing materials and buying things that ultimately did not come together, at all. That's when I found / called Karen. she came over for a consultation and we talked a little bit about the feeling I want. I didn't know much about the style that the home lend itself to, but that what I want is to be able to outsource everything to her because we don't have the time or clearly the judgment to do it on our own. She offered many ways to work together based on my comfort level but ultimately I chose a more hands off approach where I gave her my credit card information as well as cash payments, set a budget and let her do her thing. We also used her contractor for installation of multiple lighting fixtures, adding electrical outlets and moving the w/d components lower so they weren't visible when walking into the laundry room. for our family and the limited free time we have this was worth every penny we spent. We have two young children one of which has significant special-needs Karen was able to come up with a design that looks straight out of a magazine yet is able to still be a child friendly space and can accommodate our special daughter. With Karen we did the kitchen, dining room, living room, hall bath, entryway & the laundry room. I mean this house was brand new so everything looked pretty good but even in the laundry room we added butcher block slab across the top and added Decor to make it feel more like a home and bring the style together with the farmhouse build of the house. We still aren't done, but we've done each area as much or little as we've liked and once I have the interest again will move forward to the next project. I would like to change the façade of the builders fireplace, for which I will consult Karen & have her excellent contractor install. I would also like for her to decorate our front porch ar I know she suggests a bench, plants etc. but even though it sounds simple, I can't do it without her!! she is amazing!
