My family and I went on a road trip across Texas to hike in Big Bend and stopped halfway down and…read morethen again halfway back. We wanted to stay in unique places and I feel so incredibly lucky that I saw this place!! The entire experience started off so nicely when Kim (one of the owners) called us the day we were arriving to ask about our arrival time so her or her husband Mark could be there to welcome us, and she also offered to make us an early continental breakfast since we were leaving before 8am the next day. It was so kind, but we declined because we were good to grab food on the road so we could get home. But that level of customer service and genuine kindness was a perfect example of our stay! Mark met us and gave us a tour of the BEAUTIFUL house, told us about the history, showed us historical photos they got from the granddaughter of the man who first built it. He offered us wine and coffee and the best banana bread I've ever had (seriously I need to email them for the recipe), and he even let us meet his puppy which made my daughter so happy! The house itself is incredible. Mark and Kim did an impossible task renovating it from abandoned nightmare to a breathtaking home that feels luxurious and so special. It really would be perfect for a small family celebration or wedding! Our favorite parts were the atrium in the center of the house that still had the 100+ year old birds of paradise plants that the original owner brought there from Guatemala, and the fact that their beautiful Christmas decorations were still up. We were extra lucky to be the only people staying there, so we really had the run of the house and got to hang out in their gorgeous living room to enjoy the Christmas decor and watch a movie together on our tablet. Everything was clean, the beds were so comfy, the amenities were awesome, the owners are SO SWEET, and Mulberry Manor is one of the most beautiful places I've ever stayed. We've been home a few days and my daughter is still talking about it! If you get the chance, I cannot recommend it enough!

TL;DR: Perfect for road trippers who need an overnight stay to recharge and refuel before driving…read moreon that open road. I believe the staff member who helped us was Victoria. She was accommodating and helpful with getting us checked in and situated. Unlike other Holiday Inn Express locations we have been to, we've been to a total of 3 on our trip, we were actually asked about our IHG membership. The room was great! Probably the best one we've had if I'm comparing it to the other locations we've been to. Plumbing works, lights work, and the room was fairly clean. The only thing I will note is the lack of lighting on the exterior of the hotel. The sign itself is lit and so is driveway leading to the lobby for the hotel. However the parking lacks visible lighting which can be dangerous, especially at night. Also for Tesla owners, there are EV charging stations located in the back of the hotel. Hot breakfast to start the day (though the pancake machine wasn't working but honestly I won't hold that against them) and we were even asked about our stay overall. One of the best nights of sleep we ended up getting. Another observation we made was as we were leaving housekeeping was already making rounds around 8:30 (we were staying on the second floor but we saw them on the first floor as well).

The Good: The biscuits and gravy, good as always at HIEs…read more The Bad: A/C did not work (set to 60, room temp 74) and sounded like a horror movie sound effect (see video). Moronic hanging of the shower curtain. Old, cracked caulk around tub fixtures. All stairwells filthy. Burnt edges on all omelettes. Too-cheap-tasting orange juice. The Verdict: Why would Holiday Inn Express allow this location to represent their brand?
