I called around to get them groomed. Two places flat out refused to groom them because they are chows. When I contacted Maikai via yelp, Lita was agreeable to get them groomed and scheduled my appointment. The appointment day and time came and no groomer showed up. I called Lita who told me she'd find out what happened. She called me back within half hour and let me know the groomer got bitten at the previous appointment and wasn't able to make it. She offered to reschedule the appointment and we did. I wasn't there for the rescheduled appointment and was worried my dogs would be temperamental since they never been groomed by an outsider, but it was my husband who got temperamental since he didn't understand what needed to be done. My mom was there to alleviate concerns and told me the groomer did the best she could. Because they were matted, the only option was a shave. My mom said the groomer took her time and really cared about her work. After the grooming was done, I received a call from Lita who discussed with me how the grooming went. I appreciate the call since I couldn't be there and I'm the primary caregiver to my boys. I give them five stars because 1. They took my boys in when other places wouldn't, 2. My mom said the groomer took care in grooming them, 3. Lita was professional in communication, 4. They're chows chows, not the easiest breed to groom because of fur and temperament, 5. They came to the house which made it easier to handle my boys. I hope to use them again in the future, but with my boys fur in better shape the next time around.

Her nails were getting long n she gets very excited around other dogs, so I turned to YELP as usual n found Maika'i Pet Sitting n Mobile Grooming. Lalita and April came promptly at 530 if not a couple minutes early. They dont have a mobile truck so they do use your yard to do their services, but thats not a problem because it made Lilo feel even more comfortable at home. As Lalita and April began Lilo immediately took to both of them n they were able to get to work. She got a basic service of a bathe, nail clipping, and ear cleaning. Lilo enjoyed every minute of it. They also mentioned that not only do they have house sitting, they do drop in services if ur on vacation as well:). I know a lot of my fellow VIPaws pet parents are also keeping this place on the hush for the same reason. However, since I'm moving soon, I had to do right by its wonderful owner, Carly, and give her the recognition she deserves. I've tried almost every daycare and boarding here, as my fur baby is our child and we want the very best for him. It was good to see what each place had to offer but let me tell you, you will not find another place that comes close to VIPaws. This is "the Punahou" of daycares. They specialize in only taking small dogs 25 lbs and under, which is perfect since our baby is fearful of larger dogs. The sign up process is organized and thorough, taking everything into account. We could tell she was on it and well prepared to care for him whenever we were away. This really put my mind at ease. All her policies/pricing are laid out and upfront so there's no surprises. If you don't read, that's on you. Their reservation based setup makes it easy to drop off/pick up. I've been to places without this and had to wait a while to pick up my dog since there was no reserved time. At VIPaws, I book a set time to drop off/pick up my pup so I can be on my way. I appreciate that! Carly does a tour of the setup on the first day and we were impressed by how clean and secure her home was. Multiple enclosures to ensure your dog's safety, lots of room to run and play, and comfy and clean with no smells at all. The energy there felt so calm and positive. All the pups looked so cute and happy! We love that they're very selective with the dogs they agree to take in, not letting any of the riff raff in. It's like an exclusive private school! She's strict but very loving and we appreciated that vs many other places where they let dogs run wild, pee everywhere, bark their heads off, etc. Not only can your dog pick up bad habits but it also really stressed my baby out. This was a welcomed change of environment. We could tell from the tour that this was going to be an amazing experience for our pup. VIPaws took excellent care of my baby every time he joined them for daycare/sleepovers. He can be a little nervous being away from us but it didn't take long for his nervous shakes to turn into tail wags. He would do excited tippy taps whenever we made the turn to her home, ecstatic about where he was about to go. He never did this for any of the other places we've tried! We ended up enrolling him in regular daycares because he would pout and get depressed when he didn't get to go. From a dog that had separation anxiety to this, there was no denying how much he loved it there. At VIPaws, we really felt that he was more than just a number. She took the time to really get to know him and knew things about his personality, likes/dislikes and quirks that even my own Mom didn't know about him. We could tell he truly felt comfortable, willing to show her his true self and thriving in the environment they create. The level of care and commitment they take for each dog is outstanding. In a short period of time, we could tell from his consistent daycare that he was not only loving his time there, but becoming a better behaved pup. Our baby learned manners and started coming home more balanced and well-behaved. Before VIPaws, he would get leash reactive on our neighborhood walks but since joining VIPaws, he got rid of that behavior right before our eyes...we were amazed! And she doesn't even charge for training, which in my opinion is a steal!! With everything you get, her prices are incredibly fair! We loved her insights shared via daily text message/pics. He always looked so happy! She is extremely knowledgeable and her advice helped us to be the best parents. I loved her honesty, letting us know the good with the bad. It was helpful to know areas we could improve on and got us excited when those improvements started coming to life. We would much rather have that than the generic "he did great" responses we got from several other places we've tried. With VIPaws, I could trust they'd tell me the truth on how my dog really was doing. VIPaws not only helped us care for our dog when we were away but also helped transform him into a confident, social, well balanced canine citizen. He has so many friends and we love seeing him live his best life! We've recommended them to our friends and they've raved about having the same experiences with their dogs. I've been out sick from work for the last 2 days but still able to take them on morning walks. They seem more calm and are not aggressive whenever we pass or are approaching other dogs. In fact they don't react at all when other dogs start barking or lunging towards our direction. When we are home there is no tension like we used to have. I have to remind myself to get up and correct them when they're overly barking at the mailman or people walking past the house. If you dont know, it takes a lot of work to ship a pet. You have to book a flight, get the right size crate, make sure they have their vaccines, a certificate for them to fly out which expires after 10 days so you have to make sure the certificate is going to be valid when you take a flight out. With little time for me to figure out(2wks), they helped me with everything... they did everything! With me having to still go to work daily, pack up the house, figure out shipping my car,this has saved me. Not one bit of stress. They have a company called Tail Movers and Jessica arranged and did EVERYTHING for me. She was amazing. It was such an amazing experience. My dog had to fly into LA and taxi drove her to Las Vegas. This service was worth the money. They constantly communicate with you, text and send you pictures. Thank you Tails of Hawaii and Tail Movers for such amazing service. Unfortunately, rather than an apology or accountability, we were met with personal attacks. We were called hoarders, accused of being uncaring pet owners, and labeled dishonest. These accusations were hurtful and unprofessional. Support of Expansion We want to clarify that we have never been unsupportive of her business expansion. As an entrepreneur myself, I genuinely celebrate growth within our local community. Supporting local businesses is especially important here in Hawaii. Our concern was never about expansion it was about a personal invasion of privacy that made us uncomfortable and unable to maintain trust within our home. Passport & Privacy We have video surveillance showing that more than just the back of a passport was visible. The passport was opened and viewed. Regardless of intent, a passport is a private legal document containing sensitive personal information. It does not pertain to dog walking services and should not be handled or examined by a service provider. Refrigerator & Freezer Our surveillance also shows our refrigerator and freezer being opened unnecessarily. A personal food item fell out, was used to cool down her face, and then placed back into our freezer. There were no personal ice packs present only our food items. This was unexpected and inappropriate. "Hoarding" Comment We appreciated that chewed items were removed that day when our dog chewed up his slow feeder bowl. However, being publicly labeled as "hoarders" is inaccurate and damaging. We had storage containers stacked in a room partially used for storage something common in many Hawaii households where space is limited. This does not constitute hoarding. We maintain our home responsibly. Service Length & Charges We reviewed our app conversations again and found no direct communication indicating a change in service length. We did miss a community group post mentioning rate increases. While we understand that rates may change, we were unaware that our scheduled time had been reduced. Had a price increase for a 30-minute session been clearly communicated, we would have gladly accepted it. Refund & Account We have not received confirmation or documentation of any processed refund and would appreciate a receipt for our records.Our account still exists within the app and prior conversations remain accessible. The app was simply removed from our phone once services were discontinued. The review was posted after waiting several days without a response. She also had our phone number but did not reach out directly. Reviews Clarification There were no coordinated or duplicate reviews. One review was posted on Google and one on Yelp by the same individual. No multiple accounts were created. A Google account was created solely to share this experience, as this was the first time we have felt compelled to post a negative review. Grief Statement We understand pet loss deeply and would always extend grace in that situation. It was stated that certain issues were due to grieving and needing time to spend the last moments with a senior pet. We later learned through those who knew her, as well as publicly available posts that were shared with us, that those final moments had actually taken place 5-6 months earlier (March/April), not during the month referenced. We would have responded with empathy and understanding had the timeline been accurate. However, the discrepancy left us feeling confused and hurt, as the explanation did not align with the information that was publicly available. We did not want this situation to escalate. We expected professionalism, respect for privacy, and honest communication. Instead, we were met with personal accusations that do not reflect our character or the facts. We have documentation from that time but hope it will not be necessary to share it. Our intention is simply to clarify our experience.
