I did so, and was approved. Purchased a shop press and a couple other items, put them on the brand new account, and the discount was NOT applied. Store manager said they couldn't do anything about it and to call the credit card company (Synchrony). Pretty scammy. I immediately returned the merchandise and canceled the credit card.
