Police intervention was required…read more I had an extremely upsetting experience at #1 Auto Repair while traveling from out of town with my 9-year-old son. I got a flat tire and went to the nearest repair shop, as I have run-flat tires. After agreeing to a price for four tires, I left the shop and spoke with family, who thought the price seemed very high. I later contacted two other area businesses, and they quoted $800 less for the same tires and a fully completed job. When I asked the owner, Raffy, if I had been accidentally charged for the wrong tires, he shouted, used profanity in front of my child, called me "you people," and threatened that he knew where I lived. My son was traumatized -- he had never seen anyone speak to me like that. He also refused to release my car unless I paid in cash, despite advertising credit cards, Venmo, and other payment options, so I had to call the police. I was initially refunded the full amount by my credit card company after questioning the fees. However, I ended up paying the shop directly because of a small claims dispute. In court, it was confirmed that the hazardous materials and shop supply fees he charged were not actually used or standard practice, and he had to refund those fees to me. Many other reviews report similar behavior overcharging, shouting, and blaming the customer.

Excellent Auto Repair. They always go above & beyond…read more I drive a Subaru and the Mechanics at the local Dave Wright Subaru are always making a huge list of things that they say need repair. Twice, things on the list had already been repaired by the very mechanics. When I point that out they just shrug and put their tail between their legs. Dave Wright Subaru is just a huge hustle, with liars & money grubbing wankers. Everybody at Mefferd's has integrity & ethics. They do great work at great prices and that's why they are always super busy. High quality work from high quality people!

When I picked up my car the entire motor cover was still off and the screws were scattered around and missing. To my surprise just now, like a year or more later, they just called me again saying the guy who gave me the excuses last time "cleared things up" and to remove the review on here... Not very good business practice So here is my new review, a bit nicer, but I'm still not happy that my interaction with them was nothing more than wasting $600.

Spenler Tire on 1st Avenue across from Wendy's in Iowa City is AMAZING! Simply life savers for this…read moresingle gal. In 2003 I bought a new vehicle. Being one block from work I chose this place. They are so good. Mike C., my mechanic diagnoses within seconds. Harder problems within a half hour. He is HONEST. As honest as can be. He tells me the problem and what he recommends needing fixed. They DO NOT drum up false or additional items needing worked on. Being a female with little car knowledge this is exactly the shop you want to go to.I have bought all my tires from here but they do EVERYTHING! New brakes, alternator, air conditioning recharge, tune-up. You name it, they do it! They will drive me back to work if I need it. Mike the mechanic even came to Deli-Mart,a block from the shop one Winter day when my car alarm went off and I couldn't get it to stop. He charged me NOTHING just smiled. Today my engine light went off on my fairly new car. He diagnosed what the problem was and suggested I go to the dealer first as I'm under warranty. My oil changes are top notch! Thanks Austin for that. I have always gotten in the same day for my oil changes except once. No two weeks out, make an appointment like the dealerships request. It is better to call Spenler ahead of time and make an appt. but they feel like family now so I just drive on in. If they have time they say yes, if they are too busy they say no. Recently they hired Shane, a 2nd mechanic. Great guy as well! Jason at front desk rocks! Makes me laugh. In charge of ordering tires, car parts, calls back customers when car is ready etc... One trip the parts seemed rather high. I had him call around to two other part shops and he got the same parts cheaper. (Yes, I'm like that) My bills have never been astonishing high as with dealers I've dealt with pre-2003. Spenler 1st Avenue is so reasonable. Today I witnessed them tell a customer the nail that he ran over did not get into the tire deep enough so patching was NOT required. FREE. They could have lied and said they patched it up and charged this man. Honest as they come. Give them a try! I do not give out raving reviews very often but these are my boys...13 years and counting!
