Michael spoke at our Rotary club several weeks ago about how NobleSpirit can appraise coins and stamps and then sell them on eBay on behalf of the owners. Since I had a coin collection from when I was a boy in the 60s & 70s and my father's stamp collection from the 30s that had been gathering dust for years, I thought this would be a great way to declutter and find a good home for these coins & stamps with people who would appreciate them. When I visited NobleSpirit afterwards, Michael and his father said they could come to my house to appraise the collections, both of which were sizeable, to start the process of selling them.
However, when they showed up at my house, the story quickly changed. They said that neither collection had anything that was worth the time and effort needed to sell on eBay, which I don't believe was true. Instead, they offered to just buy the collections. After a very cursory inspection of the stamp collection, they said it wasn't worth anything even though it included hundreds of stamps almost 100 years old and almost 100 first-day covers. The inspection of my coin collection also appeared cursory - it looked like they just counted the number of silver coins and based their offer on the value of the silver (and I don't think even this was a fair offer). They didn't seem to consider the numismatic value of the coins even though there were many from the 1800s and some from the late 1700s to include a cool 1783 Washington "Unity States" cent.
I wasn't happy with their process but, when I expressed reservations, I got the "hard sell", which further upset me. However, since my primary goal was to find a good home for the coins and stamps so they were no longer gathering dust, I decided to accept what I think was their low-ball offer for the coins and to give them stamp collection. I hope they all go to people who appreciate them. However, overall I was very dissatisfied with the process and don't feel like I was treated fairly. read more
