Full disclosure we are friends with the Freeman's…read more I am writing this review not for today but the past. My children both took Karate here. I love Sensei Kelly as he is knowledgeable and loves what he does. He has a very kind demeanor, amazing amounts of patience and is able to teach even the youngest Karate. He is able to maintain respect in a fun and friendly environment. It is wonderful to watch the three year old class. Kelly teaches Japanese Okinawan traditional karate. This dojo also participates in several Karate tournaments throughout the year. This is a family owned and family run business. I could rave about this dojo all day.

The review give by Mike is completely inaccurate. This Dojo (room or hall where judo or karate is…read morepracticed) is over the top helpful with instructors that go out of their way to help when a student is having difficulty. If a student gets hurt (which is rare but it is Karate, unarmed combat by definition) the class stops and the needs of the student is immediately addressed. The instructors are patient but do insist that each form or technique is learned correctly. As it should be, this is self defense. If not learned properly the student will be at risk if they ever need to use what they have been instructed. The student is never pushed to progress faster than they can but always receive positive reinforcement. An advantage I see in this school is that it has students that have belted in other forms of martial arts. This allows the new student with little or no background in Karate to get a broader perspective of Karate. The Dojo is true to it's style which is Shorin-Ryu so even while there are students that have studied other forms the instruction is pure Shorin-Ryu. It is a family like atmosphere not a military atmosphere like some schools I have visited. I have found this approach to actually help students progress faster with better skill because they are not directed with fear of making a mistake. In my opinion if you want to learn to protect yourself and are willing to practice along with showing up for class this is a school that will allow for very satisfying success

This is a spacious wide open space for practice with cool green mats and a padded and sprung floor. This excellent floor makes it easier to learn graceful falling, while doing more repetitions unhurt. The sensei is a (by turns and in good measure) brilliant & stern teacher with a wry sense of humor to keep all learning lively. I love that this dojo has such a complete community, male and female, young and old, experienced and new practitioners. I am a longtime martial artist, with more than 30 years of practicing my hand to hand hobby. This school and its people are far and away the best community for learning martial arts that I have ever been in. This dojo is of the Takemusu Aikido strain of Aikido. It emphasizes a structured approach to learning with a clear curriculum that integrates empty-handed and wooden weapons training. The term Takemusu signifies spontaneously created and employed martial techniques with a huge emphasis on flowing and effective movements. I've been learning and playing at this dojo for more than eight years now. There are always a few open to the public classes every month, so why not come out and learn and play with us. I hope to see you on the Mat‼

The classes she attends are a mix of all levels. They all help each other out. The sensei is great with the kids but strict when he needs to be. I like the attention to detail and he talks to people throughout the class to give feedback. He also comes over to the area we watch from to ask if there is anything we feel he needs to work on, even if it is just behavior or habits. Having something my daughter looks forward to doing is great.
