I've been training for more than 10 years at various gyms and I've never felt more welcomed - that's a testament to the owner. He even taught us some details on a few techniques that will help us evolve our games. I would highly recommend this gym for Reno residents and out of towners trying to drop in to get some rolls in.

It's one of the only Olympic style taekwondo schools in northern Nevada and their curriculum reflects it. Practices focus on belt level forms, kicks, sparring, and self defense. The community here is incredibly welcoming and a great place for kids to learn discipline, stay active, and make friends! First Taekwondo actively participates in northern and southern California tournaments and consistently places gold. Master Tanner has practice Taekwondo for over 30 years. He's passionate about his work and really cares for the kids and adults. He's also the coach for Nevada Taekwondo which is UNR's team. He has a team of black belts that teach as well, together they keep the classes unique and interesting so classes stay fresh. It's a fun and competitive environment and I can't recommend it more!

This is a spacious wide open space for practice with cool green mats and a padded and sprung floor. This excellent floor makes it easier to learn graceful falling, while doing more repetitions unhurt. The sensei is a (by turns and in good measure) brilliant & stern teacher with a wry sense of humor to keep all learning lively. I love that this dojo has such a complete community, male and female, young and old, experienced and new practitioners. I am a longtime martial artist, with more than 30 years of practicing my hand to hand hobby. This school and its people are far and away the best community for learning martial arts that I have ever been in. This dojo is of the Takemusu Aikido strain of Aikido. It emphasizes a structured approach to learning with a clear curriculum that integrates empty-handed and wooden weapons training. The term Takemusu signifies spontaneously created and employed martial techniques with a huge emphasis on flowing and effective movements. I've been learning and playing at this dojo for more than eight years now. There are always a few open to the public classes every month, so why not come out and learn and play with us. I hope to see you on the Mat‼

He also comes over to the area we watch from to ask if there is anything we feel he needs to work on, even if it is just behavior or habits. Having something my daughter looks forward to doing is great.

5 Stars - Fantastic for Kids!…read more We absolutely love this jujitsu studio! The instructors have the perfect balance of being strict yet incredibly patient. They create focused, structured sessions that still manage to be a lot of fun for the kids. What I appreciate most is how much the kids actually learn through practice--not just going through the motions. Each class builds their skills, confidence, and discipline in a way that feels engaging and rewarding. If you're looking for a place where your child can grow, learn respect, and have a great time doing it, this is the place to be!

I have first found this martial arts school in the early 90's and I was super impressed with how…read moreknowledgeable the instructors were. Yes, this is the oldest Martial Arts school in Nevada from back in the 50's and it has a lot of history. I came back in the late 90's to train seriously. I've been active ever since. It's a traditional Japanese based jiu-jitsu school and they have a donation based - nonprofit pricing structure that is very affordable. To top that off, the blackbelts are some of the most knowledgeable in the area. Typically, more knowledgeable than the for profit schools in the Reno/Sparks area. There is a good family atmosphere, it's not a "cage fighting school" or "sport BJJ school" but it does have some serious training taking place. I couldn't be happier with the years of traditional jiu-jitsu training that I got here. I give this school an easy 5 stars.
