The community at this place was so comforting and helped me raise my confidence in my body and my capability. If you're new and considering going here, JUST DO IT. Figured I'd check out some of the local gyms and see what's out there. I checked out health sport a couple weeks ago and wanted to share my experience. I live outside Arcata so first stop was the Arcata club. Idk, maybe it's fine for some people, but it kinda just felt like it was full of young meathead gym bros hovering around the weights and grunting. Front desk staff were friendly enough but the vibe inside just wasn't it for me. Weight room was honestly a little intimidating, especially when you're trying to bring your kids along. Then I checked out the McKinleyville club. It was super quiet and seemed clean, but also kinda boring? Not a lot going on there, like if you don't love cardio machines and weights. Not sure what else there really is to do. Might be fine if you just want a basic place to work out, idk yet. Then Eureka, locker rooms definitely needed some love. Pool had a bunch of stains at the bottom which just made it feel kinda gross. Crowd there seemed a little older though, which I actually liked better than the Arcata vibe. But good luck finding a staff member when you need one. Felt like nobody was around. Got roped into a "tour" by one of their sales guys as we wondered around. Dude's hair was all messed up like he just got up from a nap and looked like a gym bro in a polo. And worse, it looked like he was checking out my daughter whenever he thought I wasn't looking. Made me very uncomfortable and SO creepy. I finished the tour quickly and we left. I don't remember his name but if you go there, you'll know who I'm talking about. Will not be going back there. Heard they have a site down in Fortuna that's supposed to be nice but that's way too far for me, so not even gonna bother. Honestly not sure what my option is at this point. Arcata feels too much like a frat house, Eureka just feels sketchy, and McKinleyville, maybe?? I was told I could set up a trial so maybe I'll do that and see how it feels when I actually try to work out there. Guess we'll see. Anyway, that's my rant. Just wish it wasn't so hard to find a decent place to get a workout in without feeling weird or uncomfortable.

She always provides specific feedback, good verbal cueing, and options to make exercises more challenging. I feel very safe taking classes from Katie and she remembers my limitations/injuries and cautions me when necessary. When the order came for shelter in place, Katie was able to get up and running with Zoom classes quickly and the classes are great. It's been really wonderful to be able to continue doing Pilates twice a week!

Apart from the led routines, Danielle gave us the freedom several times to do our own dance or the freedom to move around the room with a theme (like slapping hands against the floor or body). To top it off, post class, she gave each of us a vanilla candle, incense stick and a hug. I will GREATLY miss Danielle but grateful I benefitted from attending her classes in 2013.

I have always had good experiences with any teachers here, but I must shout out Shemaia for her teaching methods in particular as hers is the class I attend most frequently. She melds together an active and yin practice so beautifully and really encourages us to do things in our practice that will help us age gracefully which I really appreciate. Of course you can't go wrong with any of the other teachers either, Peggy is an icon, Geneva brings the most juicy yin classes and Brother V's tea class is the only one of its kind around.

Not only is it a visually beautiful space, but all the goodies are curated and feel so special. The palette of the yoga clothes is right up my alley and the body care and jewelry are so lovely! And not to mention the floral arrangements, even the bathroom has the most gorgeous foraged arrangement - every corner of this space is deliberate and lovely! I went to 2 classes, Sunday a.m. was good, the Saturday afternoon gentle was not that gentle... if you ask me. Every thing else on the schedule is hot as my soy latte Pilates, butt bliss namaste yoga. Bored. I'm so not impressed. It seems to be trying a little too hard.
