HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! So many times in life we take moments to complain about companies such as when a restaurant gets our order wrong or when a sales person is rude. However, many times we do not take the time to praise those who really deserve it. My family first signed up with Nishime Karate approx. 6 years ago with my son taking Karate. Since then I have also taken Karate, Kickboxing, and Zumba and I love every class I have taken. The classes require a lot of discipline and hard work but the reason I am able to fully benefit from the classes are simple....the instructors Shihan and Mary Beth Nishime. They are instrumental and they are a model of discipline, respect and hard work. They truly have changed my life and joining was the best decision I ever made. Jason, Ben and David have also been instrumental and highly influential and I am a better person for knowing each of them. When I would want to quite out of fatigue or self frustration or when I didn't think I had anything left in me to go on, one of them would be right in front of me pushing me and encouraging me. I remember once when I was just about out of fight Shihan must have seen that I felt depleted and come over and said, "Come on Sherrie you can't give up just because something is not easy". That really was life changing because those words came from someone I have such high respect for. I used those words he said as I was going through Grad School when things were "not easy" for encouragement and there were many of those times. However, I have successfully graduated with my masters in Mental Health Counseling. There were also times that they pointed out things about me that was not easy to hear but needed. At one point I was upset about losing a match that I felt I should have won. Shihan said, "I am glad you lost. It was better for you to lose than to win. You don't always win a match just because you think you should and you don't always get what you want in life just because you think you should." That was a hard lump to swallow but it certainly was needed. Over the years I have watched both Shihan and Mary Beth take their sense of high morals and values outside of the Dojo and utilize them in everyday life. I have seen Mary Beth walk the streets and pass out water to those who are homeless and talk to them about their life story and show them the highest respect & honor. I have seen Shihan and Mary Beth go into schools work and with high risk youths and teach them respect, honor and discipline and those kids know that they really cared. These are the people you want teaching you and your loved ones. These are the people that make you want to be a better person, these are the people we are lucky to have in our community. i recently signed up for monthly access to the awesome fitness classes offered here, and it's been amazing! they offer a variety of zumba [and a kids zumba class as well!], kickboxing, bootcamp and yoga classes throughout the week, which makes it easy to fit them into my busy schedule! i primarily do zumba, and the instructors are some of the best!! in addition to being super enthusiastic, helpful and supportive, each instructor brings something unique to a class -- making for a great way to choose your style and intensity appropriately. i enjoy the intimate atmosphere at their harrison avenue studio. the small classes allow for individualized attention and support! that being said, it does get crowded from time to time, but never to the point where i was discouraged from shedding some calories :) there are additional zumba classes offered at local churches as well [faith fellowship], if you crave a larger environment, or a more convenient location. i have never been more happy with a fitness plan! i highly recommend you checking out what nishime family karate has to offer!! read more

Our son has been going to Nishime Karate for about 8 years. He has done other sports, but loves karate the most. The instructors are extremely skilled, with years (some, even decades) of experience: they know exactly what to teach, how to do it properly and safely, and when the students are ready to learn more advanced techniques. At karate class, our son has always had regular contact with adults, peers, and younger kids, and because of this he has learned to communicate and interact with people of all ages. Through Nishime, he has had the opportunity to develop athletically and compete locally and internationally, but perhaps most important of all, it is thanks to Nishime that he has discovered that participating in this sport is not just about himself - it is about being willing to accept instruction from senseis, coaches, and peers, and then sharing his own time and knowledge with others as well. read more

I cannot express enough how Nishime Karate Studio has changed my life. I started weight watchers in January 2011 and as I was losing weight I felt the need to exercise more than just walking on my 2 fifteen breaks each day. I can't remember how I heard about Zumba at Faith Fellowship with Mary Beth Nishime, Molly O'Brien and Barb but that was another turning point. The pounds started coming off quicker and damn, I started to have a decent shape again. I continued zumba but then heard that at the studio they have kickbox and bootcamp. Nishime Family Karate offers the best fitness programs! I love the variety and the availability of the different classes! If I can't make one class, I can easily pick up another! Zumba, Cardio Kickboxing and Bootcamp are my favorites! They have it all! Their Instructors are enthusiastic, encouraging, friendly, and extremely helpful! They have skillfully combined fun and working out and I look forward to each class! The best part, it doesn't matter what your fitness level is. Nishime Family Karate has something for you! I have been going to Nishime Karate for about 3 years now and I absolutely LOVE the classes that I take--Zumba, boot camp, kick boxing, and yoga. All of the instructors are very professional and they work individually with people to make sure each person is working out to their potential and to their personal needs. I have lost 2+ sizes and have more confidence in myself and the fact that I can push myself. I have met some great people in the classes and we all try to encourage each other (new people included). I think the prices are reasonable. I also very much enjoy the different instructors because they each bring something special to their classes. read more

I started going to Mary Beth's zumba classes several years ago. Fell in LOVE with it! I went for a year then had to take about a year off for a variety of reasons. I was welcomed back by all instructors and have been going again regularly. As an older adult I am never made to feel inadequate if I can't keep up. They offer an easier version for newbies and those who just can't do what a 30 year old can do! ( or 40 or 50 year old in excellent shape!) There's a good mix of all sizes, shapes and ages. Even some men! I personally love the big classes as long as they are not too crowded. My only problem at the studio is watching myself zumba! read more

I was asked to sub for Trina about a year ago. Personally I loved the atmosphere, I never experienced a "bad romance". I was always humbled when I taught there. Nishime only hires the best of the best instructors. As an instructor I can tell you the pay is way better than any Ymca in the country and that's part of the reason Nishime gets the best instructors. I was fortunate to get a large venue otherwise I'd love to go back and teach there! Do you how how to make lady gaga mad? Just poke poke poke-her face! Get it? Poker face?
