A very good piece of baguette, to be fair, but I just wish there had been a little more flavor. The deli itself is very cute with lots of imported Italian foods, like unique pastas and sauces. The shop sells cheese (and they let you have samples), wine, and imported foods, but it also a full deli that serves sandwiches, salads, prepared food, and more. My mom is vegan but was able to make a very good vegan sandwich (hummus and lots of veggies), while I really really really really loved their French Picnic sandwich (French ham, brie, apples, and honey mustard on baguette). It was the best brie (and soooo much brie) that I've ever had and just a perfect sandwich. There was a little wait to order - it's a popular spot - but once our sandwiches were in a brown paper sack in our hands, we drove over to Walden Pond and enjoyed them there. What could be a more perfect lunch on a first visit to Concord than a great sandwich from the Concord Cheese Shop enjoyed looking out at Walden Pond?! At approximately 1:00 p.m., I was outside waiting for my friend while she finished making her purchases. As she walked out of the store, she tripped over a bike rack positioned along the walkway. She fell hard, injuring and bloodying her knee and scraping her hands. She was visibly shaken, and the pie she had just purchased was destroyed in the fall. I went inside to tell an employee what had happened and to ask whether the pie could be replaced. While I was speaking with the employee, my friend came inside, limping. My friend asked whether the employee had heard what had happened. Rather than expressing concern or asking whether she was okay, the employee's reaction struck both of us as surprisingly dismissive. My friend then asked whether she could have some ice for her injured knee. The employee said no and walked away. Because I was surprised by that response, I asked another employee who was stocking muffins whether he could get some ice for my friend because, I explained, she had just fallen and injured herself. He also indicated that he could not. The first employee later returned and explained that there were no more pies available, and my friend was refunded for the pie. What happened next was the strangest part of the experience. As we were leaving, the employee came after us and quietly told my friend that she would get her some ice if she promised not to tell anyone. My friend accepted the ice. I cannot explain why providing ice to an injured customer apparently needed to be done discreetly. What bothered me most was not simply that my friend fell. Accidents happen. It was the response afterward. A customer was bleeding, shaken, and asking for something as basic as ice. I would have expected someone to ask whether she was all right and to offer reasonable assistance. Instead, the response we experienced initially felt defensive and indifferent. The pie was refunded, which I appreciate. But the overall interaction left such a negative impression that I do not intend to return.

You can eat inside, but we grabbed ours to go. Only heads-up: they carry Pepsi products (I'm more of a Coke fan), but not a dealbreaker for me. While I was waiting, I watched them make a version of a steak and cheese sub and now I have to go back and try it. All in all, really glad I gave it a shot, and I'll definitely be back!

The staff is very fast--it's amazing how quickly they can assemble a sub with all the different cold cuts they must use. It's quite labor-intensive it seems. I've visited a number of times and the staff is always nice and professional. There's been some staff turnover but the new folks are just as good as the previous ones. They all work hard and are never grumpy. The store is is big, airy and always perfectly clean. I don't remember ever seeing papers or crumbs left on any of the table when I walked in. The prices are high, but when you consider the excellent quality, the always fresh bread, and the large portions, I think it's a pretty good value. Just take home what you cannot eat there. Parking is a little tight in this strip mall, but keep in mind that you can also park on the south side.
