We had reservations for a wine tasting on July 3, 2020…read more When we arrived there was only 1 other table with a party of 4 having a wine tasting. We were escorted to a large table able to accommodate 6 but it was just the 2 of us. When the woman who was doing the presentation arrived she was wearing a mask and said that she would stand further back than the end of the table because of concerns about corona virus. She asked us which wines we would like to sample and she went go get the first wine. She then poured us bit for tasting, quoted the description that was on the sheet and disappeared. She had no other tables that she was doing tastings for. She was doing other chores as there were no other customers that she was taking care of. She came back after 5 to 10 minutes poured the second wine, again basically quoted off the printed sheet and took off again. By the time she came back the 3rd time we were listening to the man who was conducting the tasting at the other table as he had actively engaged the customers and was giving the kind of information that I had hoped to have on our wine tasting, especially since we did require a reservation. Our server was trying to get our attention so she could do the final pour and she seemed rather put out that we were listening to someone who actually had something to say. We did buy a bottle of gewürztraminer since it is one of the few gewürztraminers that my husband enjoys. We were in and out and the other table that was there before us were still enjoying their wine tasting experience. We have gone for wine tastings at Wild Goose many times in the past and have never had the experience that we had this time. We did not feel at all welcome and felt like we were treated as if we had some incurable disease. If an employee is uncomfortable with doing wine tastings (understandable) because of corona virus they should be assigned another job until there is a cure for covid.

If you're not from the area, make sure to get directions when you talk to them! You turn off Highway 97 onto Oliver Ranch Road. You go up, down, and curve around a fair ways until you reach a small side road. Then this road winds around the mountain, through the vineyard, turns into a dirt road, keeps winding ... finally you make it to the parking lot for the winery. But the reward! Whoa! It's the most incredible view of Vaseaux Lake and the mountains, which look blue from here hence the name of the winery. That's before you step inside the intimate tasting room and get a tasting with loads of personal attention. Their wines are all delicious. They make small lots of pretty much everything, so the selection really varies as they sell out quickly. Their sparkling brut is amazing and worth the drive out here alone. And at $23.90 a bottle it's not bank-breaking bubble, either. If you can get your hands on any of their striped label Pinot Noir, do it! It goes for around $35. I also love their Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris with fish or in the summer or in the afternoon ... or anytime, really. Make the call. Drive the adventure. Savour the wines and then stock up! Oh, they have a really nice dog, too! :)

Lovely rolling hills with rows of vines curving along the mountainside to capture the sun. The winery is simple in design. Its not like some of the wineries where they merchandise everything from corkscrews to cookbooks. Our decision to come here was a result of enjoying their wines at The Beach House Restaurant in West Van. Although it was 2 years ago that we dined there, the name and product certainly left an impression. We were given a sampling of their latest productions and offerings. They make small batches of a variety of whites and reds and although they could not offer us a sample of any reds, they did have the product to sell us. The prices range from $20 and up, so they were quite reasonable for a good bottle of wine. I believe the product is available for ordering on-line. It's tasting lounge is minuscule with no ration given to merchandise or paired picnic-fodder. It doesn't offer the particulars all wineries must list. There are no Cabernet Sauvignons, Pinot Noirs, or Syrahs? Even its name is weird--not taken from its address or a simplistic nearby geographical feature. Synchromesh? Am I getting my car serviced? It can't even be bothered to hire staff, forcing patrons to listen to the winemaker himself ramble on about how great his Rieslings are. That's right, Rieslings...white wine. And not only that, but among the ten wines generally offered, six are Rieslings, limiting options to those wishing the standard fair. My God, I love this place. As for those Rieslings, I bought four. I thought the reds were offered because the owners felt they needed to. This is a perfect example of a winery knowing something well and throwing everything behind it in order to perfect that one impeccable variatel. It's an example sadly so few follow, as such dedication usually comes at the expense of selection. I'd rather have that than a traditional winery just offering the staples. Just because there are six varietals of Riesling does not equate them being identical. Each one caters to a distinct palate, but each is strong in their own regard. I didn't buy the same bottle twice. As for the name, love it. Talking with the owner directly as he poured samples, I'd have it no other way. The small tasting room, focused and without distraction. This is a winery that sells what it knows and it knows Riesling. It's not surprising that Synchromesh makes the best. That's my declaration; they do the best Rieslings in the Okanagan. Do I have a sample size, or am I just being glib? From August 2016 to May 2017, my girlfriend and I visited over 100 BC wineries, so take that what you will. Synchromesh is one not to miss, regardless if you prefer whites or reds. The Rieslings will sway your opinion. If you still dislike it after the visit, then there is no hope--you will always see red. By the way, the day we arrived, it was over 34 degrees outside, but inside was an ice box. Thank you.

It's like saying Return of the Jedi is disappointing compared to The Empire Strikes Back. You still got that awesome speeder-bike chase and that moment Luke flips out and attempts patricide. But yeah, when grading against the other two, it's not the best. This assumes I am not counting the prequels. It's certainly not The Godfather, Part 3--Meyer Family Vineyard is still a great place, featuring an impressive view, and boasting a broad selection of wine served by a knowledgeable and generous host. It has a welcoming tasting lounge blessed with delicious temptations for one's next picnic. The issue once again is that Meyer Family Vineyard was neither our first winery nor our last on this day. It wasn't even the fiftieth for my girlfriend and me in total. We were up to seventy by this point in the Okanagan alone. And Meyer Family Vineyard is good, worth a visit, but if your time is paramount and limited, it would not be a priority on my list. Meyer followed Nighthawk and would be followed by Synchromesh, both superior wineries. But I won't attempt negativity as the location is still good. We just didn't buy any wine. I did buy crackers. I mean...crackers. That's something. Right? Another comparison would be someone offering me a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup after I finished sucking on a Lindor chocolate with a bowl of those still tempting me. Sure, I love Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, but when there's a bowl of Lindors... ...Unfortunately, I'm also overweight, so I'd find a way to fit in both. Hmm, that's a better comparison. If you like wine and are touring the region, fit in Meyer, and then feel guilty afterwards.

There was 11 to choose from (4 whites and 7 reds). As usual, tasting fee is waived if you buy a bottle. Bottles are in the $20.00 to $45.00 range (tax included). - 2018 white bridge - easy drinking white blend of muscat, chardonnay and riesling. - 2017 scout vineyard riesling - sweet aroma but a mineral taste that B did not particularly enjoy. - 2018 gamay- this was our favourite of the bunch so we bought a bottle ($25.00). Shame on you for marketing these disappointing unfiltered wines that reminded me of my grandmas hooch. It's especially bad business to force these into your wine club shipments. We contacted the winery about this and John Weber, Owner/winemaker responded by saying basically, our taste is unrefined and we would be happier as not part of their wine club.
