I was there with a friend. The bartender took my credit card to start a tab. Nothing unusual since some places hold the card and some run a preauth and hand it back. He kept it. There were 6 people in the bar, including the bartender and an off duty employee who was cozy with the bartender. I minded my own business far from the bar at the dart boards. Unbeknownst to me, the off duty employee, Kelly, had a "thing" for the guy my friend and I were playing darts with. I found out later after she yelled at me and called me psycho and wouldn't let me get my tab, even though she wasn't working. They tried to push me out the door. I wasn't doing anything except demanding my credit card back. It was cut in half in the trash!! She threw the pieces on the floor and made me go get them. I still didn't know what I did. I asked if the card issuer denied the charge. No, the charge was approved, but i wasn't given a receipt to sign to authorize the charge. The bartender told me i wasn't being charge and to get the hell out. I did get charged, btw. I asked if the card issuer told him to cut up my card. No, the card issuer did not. How is this legal? I found out that Kelly, who had her hands full with the bartender that night and supposedly is engaged to someone else (this information is from the guy who played darts with us and told me outside afterward) that she had come on strong to him the week before, so she was possibly jealous of me. If that was her problem, that's not my fault and that's not how an adult acts. It is not how an adult bartender allows someone to act, either. Further, I was not at all interested in stealing one of her many boyfriends, as I do fine on my own. I was shocked that this could've been her reason because the guy in question is a mere 5 years older than my daughter. I think i just threw up in my mouth a little. I cannot believe the bullying that occurred that night. It came on suddenly and was so dramatic. When I got home, I called my card company. The representative said that the bartender did charge $6.75 to my card, even though i didn't get to sign and he said he didn't charge me. She said she would credit me on her end, rather than dispute the charge because of the hassle it entails and the small amount. That $6.75 charge would be evidence of my level of intoxication, if only it weren't such a small amount. I was the one screamed at and called "psycho bitch" over and over. I know I was not in a psychotic state and I know that none of the three at the bar have any standing to determine who is or isn't psycho. I can say that there were some personality disorders on extreme display that I am qualified to comment on. Finally, my card company confirmed that they did NOT tell the merchant to cut up my card AND she advised me to report this to law enforcement as it is illegal for the bartender to tamper with the card which is not his property. It is sad that people can make longterm decisions based on short term emotions, but that's not my problem. I didn't deserve this and no one does. The bartender mentioned earlier he is 47 years old to make some sort of a point. I bet his mother is proud of his emotional maturity. I will be following through with this as the representative advised me. I hope the owner sees this and replies so we can discuss this. It is unbelievable. read more
