Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home

Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home

I could write pages about how wonderful Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home was in caring for my…read morefamily during our time of grief. We physically lost two loved ones, and we would not go to anyone else but Strano & Feeley. The excellent customer service begins with the initial home call, taking possession of the deceased loved one (e.g., at home or hospital), then the intake meeting with the family. The clean calming atmosphere starts outside (e.g., fishpond) then continues inside with comfortable furniture and smiling staff to greet you. No matter which staff you receive for the intake meeting, they all conduct themselves with professionalism, care, and provided clear information on the various options. As a grieving loved one, I'd suggest you come to the table with your grief but an open mind and patience with your loved ones present with you and the staff. What I appreciated was for one loved one- we had all the answers prepared, for the other we were figuring out as we went along- staff provided time and space in the intake meeting for us to calmly figure things out. Having someone take notes in the family to compare with the staff's notes is always useful - they were always on point anyway but it's good to remember what you ordered and they will provide you a folder with information from the initial session as well. Any insurance or cemetery logistics were handled on the phone right away by the staff in the first session - which was amazing to watch them navigate the complex systems of care. We had a loved one cremated and another buried in a nearby state - the funeral home still took care of everything, just be sure to provide your photos, music and obituary timely. Nothing was overly complicated and if it was, they never showed it, just showed up for us in every way - we had no worries. When it was time to collect our loved one's things (e.g. urn or possessions not buried) they provide you with a beautiful bag of memories, some unexpected, that showed more care than we could have imagined. By the end of our grieving season this summer - this had become not only a funeral home but an appendage to our family. The staff will forever be a part of our loved ones' legacy. P.S. I would highly recommend the nearby Atterbury VFW - Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3420 for a repast and their regular caterer Ms. Lori. Everyone was such a blessing and joy to work with, and they took care of absolutely everything including décor and the food was delicious. Thank you to Jamie and the ENTIRE Strano & Feeley team, With Gratitude, The Gillyard Family

This is the first time I have ever written a Yelp review - but I felt strongly that I should do so…read more It has been well over a year since my Mom passed away. You may wonder why I would wait so long, but the death of a beloved family member can be such a painful process and a memory that many do not want to revisit. Yet, I have found myself so very grateful for the kind and experienced advice I received from DFS Memorials through one of the toughest times in my life. I was going through some papers and files and I was actually able to look at those moments with some happiness and relief, knowing that I gave my mother a lovely burial with a very limited budget. I'm so thankful for the advice and how quickly they responded to all my questions. They gave me options I didn't even think about. When I went to the onsite cemetery office, where my family members are buried in Virginia Beach, the quotes they gave me for her cremation, an urn and burial were absolutely shocking. There were so many charges. The same happened at our local funeral home (Hollomon Brown) where my father, brother, grandparents services were held. I left both places feeling devastated and shaken. Luckily I remembered a friend that had told me about this company. I immediately called the main number and Sara walked me through the whole process. She couldn't have been more patient and professional. She put me in touch with Steve, the local representative in the Virginia Beach area. He was a great communicator and he promptly returned my calls providing me with information. This was such a relief, because I had to do everything very quickly. Also, this happened over Easter weekend and there were a lot of burials taking place over the next few days. He was incredibly professional and explained how I would be able to arrange for my mom's cremation, they would find the crematorium for me, arrange the visitation at the funeral home for relatives, help me select the urn and other needed materials required by the cemetery and even the licensed undertaker to oversee the graveside burial. (This is a requirement by many cemeteries and this one tried to overcharge me for that, as well.) All total, I saved well over 50% off the total costs. The photo attached is the beautiful marble urn I ordered through DFS and they had many selections to choose from. The cemetery wanted to charge me 4x the price! The urn was so beautiful, made of a very heavy cobalt blue marble. It was lovely. I cannot thank this company enough for helping me through everything and making a very sad event in my life something I could look back on with some happiness of knowing I provided a beautiful burial and goodbye to my beloved mom. And that is why I decide to write this review. It is my hope someone reading this, will write down this information and keep it with their important papers, so when the unthinkable happens, or if you know of someone that may need help, you can feel assured they will be well taken care of, the same way I was. I am truly grateful. Thank you, Sara, Nic and Steven.

The management team…read morehas not been consistent or considerate when it comes to people visiting their loved ones and bringing flowers, etc. Losing loved ones is hard enough alone. My family has unfortunately buried two people at greacelawn in the past year and let me just say, it's already a difficult time trying to grieve and still go on with life. All while still handling the important things behind the scenes such as choosing a burial place. The last thing I want to do is come visit my loved ones and not see the flowers/vase that we just placed down two days prior gone. We notice some families are treated different, where as they don't have to follow the rules supposedly if they are visiting their loved ones frequently. My husband and myself visit my mother in law and grandmother every week if not twice a week. When we can't make it our Aunt is there. We bring fresh flowers every single week. We have been lied to countless times on why are things keep getting removed. Lisa Dimaio, absolutely unprofessional. How dare you tell someone to come dig their loved ones up? This place has caused us so much extra unwanted and unwarranted stress. Please be mindful, when choosing a place to lay your loved ones to rest. This ain't it!

He was rude, degrading, condescending and disrespect to me and my family during our time of bereavement. He questioned everything about me and my family as if we were lying about military service and having life insurance. I kept calling him stating I wanted to move forward and asked what he needed to pick up the body and he made me feel even more unwelcome. I even told him the body was going to start changing colors and he said, "...a few more days won't hurt". This is no way to speak to someone that is calling for funeral arrangements especially when they are numb and vulnerable. Needless to say our military family went elsewhere. There are fewer things lower than taking advantage of people who are grief-stricken. Though everyone else at Spicer-Mullikin was warm and compassionate, I will make my complaint about Mitch Jackson known to the Funeral Consumers Alliance and the Federal Trade Commission. He is a mismatch for this business.
