I hired Garrett Green to handle my criminal case, and I want to share my honest thoughts about working with him. At first, he seemed like a great choice. He talks real smooth and comes across as a really nice guy when you first meet him. But as time went on, things changed, and I ended up feeling disappointed with how everything turned out. The Good Start That Didn't Last When we first started working together, Mr. Green was on top of things. He would: Return my calls right away Answer my text messages quickly Make me feel like my case was important to him Seem confident about helping me But this good service didn't last long. After a few weeks, it got harder and harder to reach him. My calls went to voicemail, and my texts would sit there with no answer for days. This left me feeling worried and clueless about my own case. The Dreaded Clio System Instead of normal communication, I got pushed to use something called the "Clio system" - it's this online portal that was super frustrating to use. I couldn't even find my own messages in there! It felt like talking into a black hole, and I never knew if anyone was actually reading what I sent. What Really Bothered Me The biggest problems I had with Mr. Green were: 1. He Cared Too Much About Being Liked Mr. Green seemed more worried about everyone thinking he was a nice guy than fighting hard for me. He wanted the judges and prosecutors to like him, but sometimes you need your lawyer to ruffle some feathers to get results. 2. No Preparation He didn't seem to do any homework on my case. He'd walk into court looking like he was making it up as he went along. He'd just show up, chat with the prosecutor for a few minutes, and hope his charm would save the day. That's not what I was paying for. 3. Left Me Clueless About Court He never told me what to expect in court. Even when he knew important stuff was coming up, he wouldn't fill me in until we were sitting there in the courtroom. This left me feeling blindsided and unprepared many times. 4. Making Friends Instead of Fighting It felt like Mr. Green was more focused on building friendly relationships with the prosecutors for his future cases than he was on getting the best outcome for my case. He seemed afraid to push too hard or make waves. 5. No Discovery Work He didn't seem to do any of the background work lawyers are supposed to do. "Discovery" is when lawyers dig into all the evidence and look for problems with the other side's case. Mr. Green skipped this step as far as I could tell. How It Ended In the end, I took a plea deal that I wasn't happy with. Looking back, I wish I had spent my money on a different lawyer - one who would have fought harder for me and kept me informed about what was happening. I'm still hoping that something will change with my case, and if it does, I'll update this review. But for now, I can't recommend Mr. Green if you need a criminal defense attorney who will truly go to bat for you. My Advice If you're thinking about hiring Mr. Green, make sure you: Get everything in writing Ask directly about how he'll communicate with you Find out exactly what work he'll do to prepare your case Set clear expectations about updates and preparation Don't be fooled by the smooth talk and friendly manner. I was trying to change a moving violation to a non moving violation in order to avoid 1 point in my driving record, erroneously thinking that my insurance will not increase despite the accident if I can decrease the violation. Reckless driving was dropped to a minor speeding ticket. Mr. Nichols represented me as an attorney, and he was straight forward and let me know what I needed to do to prepare to have the best fighting chance. Not going to sugarcoat it. It was a lot of work, but I completed everything (plus more to show that I was taking this violation seriously). In the end, even though the judge and prosecutor who showed up to handle my case were known to be tough, they've agreed to reduce my charge to a minor speeding ticket. One thing to keep in mind for anyone who's in a similar situation (This is something I didn't know): All of the negotiation with the prosecutor is done on the day of your court date because the name of the prosecutor is not known until the day before. Even though you may feel anxious and nervous, there is nothing that can be done until the day of. Just do what your attorney asks you to do, so he can go and negotiate on your behalf as best as he can. Mr. Nichols knew the people at the court and is certainly knowledgeable about traffic cases. highly recommend - I had to address the firm twice within last 12 months for speeding, first case in Fairfax court was handled by Mr Green, second, in Manassas - by Mr. Nichols. I just got back from Prince William County District Court, where I had to answer a reckless driving summons (50 mph in a 25; don't ask). Fortunately, I had Luke Nichols representing me in the matter. Mr. Nichols got the criminal Reckless charge dropped in exchange for a guilty plea to Improper Driving, a much lesser non-criminal offense, with a few points and $500 fine. I would have liked the fine to be lower, but with a stubborn Manassas prosecutor and a reputedly tough judge on the bench (Jarvis), we took what we could get. One day my girlfriend her friend tell me to call : Nichols& Green they represent her for the Dui case she suppose go jail cause she drunk and hit someone but she only end up with probation 1 year and fines and they charge cheap, so I send a email to them and I Surprise get a call back at the same day by Mr. Nichols himself wow (usually was secondary)!!! Other Lawer took them at least a couple day to hear from them. We spend about 20 minutes talk about my case, and at the end I don't even said anything he automatic lower he's price, he offer me a $1000 for my case WOW!! I'm immediately decided to have him to represent me for my case!!! But here is a thing before the court days they been ask me to do something before the court day, like driving improvement class, take my car to do test for speedometer , community service and some stuff to help my case , And I didn't do any of that!!! All I do just send a driving record to mr. Nichols and my record was not good (believe me still got +2 on it). On the court day he spend few hours with Prosecutor but she an hardcore Prosecutor, he tell me she want to offer me $2000 fines ,20days jail times , 6months License suspend and 1 yr probation I was like WoW @@" What!!! And he explains to me I have few options and the best way is to do a trail out today cause judge he knew was a nice person we can give it a try!!!! And he was right !! And he fight very well with prosecutor, he can question the officer face turning all red, looks like about to cry and can't even answer his questions, officer look like just want the get out the here, WoW!! I end up only charge with $250+court fees fines and 30days license suspend, that's it! Not even probation! No jail time!And it cut fines and suspend to a minimum! WoW!! WoW!!! WoW!!!!
