One of the best Hostels I have every stayed at and I have been through 24 or more countries by now…read more It clean, hip, modern, up to date, organised, awesome staffing, with well planned activities for city tours, wine tasting, bar hopping and so on. They offer dinner with drinks for 10 euros. A electronic wrist band is given to you when you check in and it gives you access to the building, your room, and unlocks the lockers underneath your bed. I happened to stay in the 4th floor and the lack of elevator gets tiring but no where near as tiring as walking the streets of Porto itself...its so steep out there! This is one of those hostels you need to book in advance as it is almost always fully booked.

I took a day trip Guimarães and one of the guys helped me look up train times. The location is fantastic! It's a few blocks away from the subway and they also have a 24 hour check-in. I was traveling on my own from Marrakech and my flight was delayed two hours. Fortunately, I was able to catch the very last subway ride. I think it was at 1AM? I arrived very late but I met a couple on the street who directed me in the right way. The hostel is very secure and clean. They have a few computers, a nice lounge area, and a communal kitchen. They also have this awesome mural in the lounge area. They have a new dinner prepared each night for a small fee where you can meet other hostel guests. The hostel's fun atmosphere made it very easy to meet new people. One of my favorite things about this hostel are the e-keys they provide for each guest. The e-key gives you access to the entrance as well as the huge rolling drawer underneath the bed. It's pretty spacious so you can easily fit a big backpack inside. Each bed has an outlet and there is a small sink in the room so you don't have to walk to the bathroom. The views from the room are great! My window directly faced the street which was great! The bathrooms are extremely clean and the showers are big so you have space to change inside the stall as well. They also have convertors for electronics at the front desk in case you need one. Staying here has been a very positive experience! I loved Portugal. It's probably one of my favorite places I've ever visited. I will definitely make my way back here one day to travel the entire country.

Porto Wine Hostel is a port-themed hostel conveniently located within walking distance of…read morerestaurants, public transportation, and popular attractions. What I liked: * The free glass of port wine at check-in was a nice way to start my stay. The wine theme continued throughout the hostel, with bottles lining the stairs and rooms named after port wines--a cute and creative touch! * My room was a private room with an en-suite bathroom. The full-length mirror was a small but much-appreciated detail. * Towels smelled freshly laundered (not always the case in hostels) and the staff were helpful and friendly. They answered all my questions and made sure I had everything I needed during my stay. What could be improved: * My "garden view" turned out to be more of a view of a large park under construction. Not quite the greenery I'd imagined. * Noise was a huge issue! The hostel warned about noise from the college crowd on the weekends; however, I wasn't prepared for loud music and gatherings lasting until 3 AM. Even with earplugs, it was tough to sleep. * The bathroom in my room was unusually narrow and dark, with an odd smell. I had to leave the door open for extra space. Things to know before you book: * There is no elevator in this hostel. This was fine for me; however, it's something to consider if stairs are an issue for you. * This is not a social hostel, so if you're traveling solo and looking to meet people, you might need to venture out or arrange a tour through the front desk. * Consider booking a different hostel if you want to fall asleep before 3 AM.

Love, love, LOVE this place!…read more First off, it's a bit of a hike from the metro station. It's not horrible, but it's not right around the corner, either. For myself, that was the only bummer. That being said, the short walk up a hill gave myself, my sister, and husband plenty of chances to look at the stunning Portuguese architecture and note some places to get coffee and shop for sandals and maybe some extra clothes. The Wine Hostel is fairly well marked and we had no trouble finding it. There's a small foyer you can enter where then you have to get buzzed into the building or swipe your fob. In this foyer, there was a vintage bicycle with a dozen empty port bottles in the front basket, a crate of empty port bottles on the back rack, and an empty crate of port bottles on the floor. The receptionist buzzed us in, and crates of empty port bottles lined the wall up the short stairs to the front desk landing. My sister turned to me grinning: "Are we in the right place or are we in the right place?!" The receptionist, Carla, was friendly and got us checked in. While she copied the info from our Passports, my group logged into their free wifi on our phones. Then she showed us around the hostel. The stairs continued up the left from the front desk landing with a gorgeous balister and opened to another landing that had a wide open kitchen and laundry area for guest use on the right and to the left an equally large common room where there was a dining table, several cushion chairs, 2 computer stations, a tv surrounded by bean bag chairs, and plenty of Portugal tour books and board games for free use. In the evenings there was port tasting for anywhere between 1-3 Euros, depending on the type of port you wanted to have, and every day there was a Happy Hour where they were even cheaper. We continued up the magnificent staircase to the next floor where our dorm room was. We stayed in the LBV room and it was beautiful! Three white wooden bunks and matching storage cabinets had plenty of room in this tall yet cozy dorm, with floor to ceiling windows that could be shuttered with doors. The room had an attached modern bathroom that was beautifully tiled with a toilet, sink, and stand up shower. There was a tall woven rack that offered plenty of room for holding toothpaste and deodorant and such. The only thing that was a slight bummer was the laundry dryer was currently broken, so if we wanted to do laundry, we would have to air dry it (which wasn't really possible because it was a foggy, rainy stay in Porto, but we weren't desperate for clothes just yet anyways). The Wine Hostel isn't very near a lot of sight seeing attractions, but it was close to a lot of wonderful restaurants, and that's honestly just as good. Walking out to find a delicious and affordable dinner was no problem at all, and Carla was happy to point us in the right direction. Another night my group stayed in and maybe had a touch too much Port while we used The Wine Hostel's wifi to finish checking in online to planes, securing train tickets, and paid for print-outs of said tickets. Since Porto is the home of port wine, the options are basically unlimited as to what kind of port you want to drink, and what only costs mere Euros here would wipe you out in the United States. My husband and I are huge port fans, so this was basically heaven. When it was time to check out, the Wine Hostel offered to hold our bags until our train left, but we declined as we could rent lockers at the train station to hold our stuff until it was time to head to Lisbon. It wasn't as cheap as leaving them as the hostel, which would have been free, but it would save us a trip and precious time. I would 100% go back to The Wine Hostel. I absolutely loved it and had a wonderful time and experience. The beds were comfortable and the sheets and comforter were new and clean, the residence was gorgeous, and the staff was friendly. I definitely recommend it!

Overall this place gets 5 stars simply because of the customer service . I spoke with management and they have really prioritized the guest experience over recent years bringing on the right mix of volunteers and staff that are customer service oriented and now how to make guests feel welcomed. The location is also really cool as it is located inside of a train station . The lobby area has a loft area with a seating area and window over looking the tracks so you can see passengers arrive and leave from the window overlooking the train platforms . Reservations here also include a free and satisfying breakfast . What I especially like is although the items are limited people can also cook their own food especially if they have special dietary restrictions unlike some other hostels in the area.

There are 10 beds in each room so it's quite noisy with all the different people coming and going. Bathrooms and showers are divided by gender which is very nice, so you don't have boys next to you while you shower. The kitchen on the top level is spacious and well stocked. Continental breakfast in the am, bread, cheese, and some fruits, nothing fancy. Overall a decent stay.

Located right on the Douro river you have one of the best views of the region right from the lobby , the terrace outside and even some of the private rooms . Also booking a night here in any accommodation comes with free breakfast ( such a fan of their baked apples with cinnamon which is amazing in a bowl of special K / cornflakes btw ) and their Tomato salad with rosemary and feta with toasted break and butter . l was also a fan of as their welcome drink ( port and tonic ) which is delicious! Great value ! **Update** Updating my review after one full night here and reducing the score from a five to three stars . While again the location is great This hostel also has a very weird policy that prohibits guests from preparing their food in the morning because they have a breakfast service . While it is cool they offer a free breakfast it does not include certain items like eggs etc and even if you have a special diet and or you have your own food you are not allowed to use the kitchen until noon . After being yelled at by an older Portuguese woman that the kitchen was closed I confirmed after speaking with one of the staff that one would literally have to wake up and use the kitchen at 5 am if you had special dietary needs and could not eat what was being offered . In summary - Location is a 5 Cleanliness 5 ( I love how even in the dorms they will make your bed for you everyday like when you stay at a hotel ) Accessibility- ( for guest with special dietary needs or in need of additional services due to a disability ) 2.75 Customer Service also is an average 3.5 ( based on morning staff interactions the morning after ..which initially lowered my rating from a 5 to a 2 the my first morning at the hostel but the staff have been trying their best the following days ( like remembering what I can't eat and trying to modify my plate to accommodate my diet so I am raising their score ) ( overall I give this place 4.2 out of 5 stars and would recommend if you are staying in the porto region )

Overall, the hostel was clean, inexpensive and close to the city center and a Metro stop. When I arrived, I was given all relevant information like wifi and facilities information. Since I'd already been in the city for 3 days, I didn't need any sightseeing or tourist information. I paid €7.90 for an 8-bed mixed dorm in December. The room was fairly spacious and didn't feel crowded even with all the backpacks. There was a bathroom with shower in the room, and I met some cool people staying in my room. Funnily, they all spoke Portuguese since they were from Brazil but working in Hungary. The hostel printed my airline boarding pass for free. The nearby Metro stop is a 5-minute walk away. Great if you're heading to the airport. From Trindade metro station, the purple/violet line takes you to Porto Airport. Everything in Porto you want to visit is within walking distance so there really isn't a need to use public transit. It's around a 15 minute walk to the city center. My only complaint was that in the middle of night, some noisy people entered the room talking in normal voice instead of whispered tones. Not really the hostel's fault, always a crapshoot who ends up in your hostel room. But bad for me since I had to wake up early to take the Metro to the airport. Overall, I wouldn't mind staying here if I'm ever in Porto again!

I read great reviews about this hostel, but I think the "newness" has started to die down... I stayed at the hostel from Thursday night - Saturday night, in an all female 8-bed dormitory. I think the advert was misleading (I booked through Booking.com) as I believe I booked a bed in a 4-bed dormitory, but was placed in an 8-bed room. I didn't care too much to change it, but it did annoy me. The wifi was absolutely horrible. It didn't work properly in the rooms, and the staff were nonchalant about it, and not feeling bothered enough to do anything about it. Trying to use it in the workspace and lounge area was better, but not that great. The bathrooms were pretty clean my first night, but by the time we got to Saturday night, I did my best to stay there for as less time as possible! It's expected in communal spaces that cleanliness isn't going to be top-notch 100% of the time...but it's not that hard to clean up after yourself, which it seems like some of these travelers did not know how to do. This hostel also seemed to display evidence of past attempts at creating a social environment, but this was not apparent during my stay. Apparently the hostel hosted their own walking tour, but it wasn't available when I was there. I happened to befriend one girl staying in my dormitory, but it was not thanks to the hostel. I paid 66 euros for three nights total. I wouldn't be excited to stay here again, but I spent most of my time outside exploring Porto, so for a place to keep my things and sleep on a bed, this hostel served its purpose.

The staff and front desk are welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. The hostel has private rooms with shared bathrooms. I opted to stay at a dorm like room with bunk beds. I was able to request my preferred bed and I was lucky to be assigned my preferred bed. The room I stayed in was located on the 3rd floor Room 1. It had 2 showers, 2 toilets, and 2 sinks. It even had a hair dryer and 2 hand towels to use. The lighting was adequate and ventilation was good since it had exhaust fans that switched on when someone was using the bathroom. The rooms were of good size and had a nice sized bed and lockers that fit a carry on size luggage. The room had wide doors that open to the balcony which offered fresh air. The room also has a wall mounted split type air conditioner. Each bed had an electrical outlet, a small ledge to place some items, and a reading light. Each set of bunk beds has a foldable chair which I found useful when organizing items on my backpack. Daily housekeeping was provided and the room was "organized" each day. I preferred my things not to be touched or moved but I did not have any choice. I learned to just lock everything up in my locker to avoid any items being moved. The breakfast was adequate and the kitchen area was of good size to accommodate travelers. It had a cooking area, fridge, utensils, cookware, and microwave. The hostel is not similar to other "party" hostels. This is a quiet hostel which I preferred. Pros: - Friendly staff - Location - Price - Overall cleanliness - Spacious - Generally quiet compared to other hostels - No party scene - Good for introverts Cons: - It took 3-5 minutes for the hot water to run - Housekeeping would move items to organize the room If you found this review helpful, click on the helpful icon to help other travelers.
