It's interesting to read the review from 2016, and now have the chance to reflect on my own experience in 2023.
I read great reviews about this hostel, but I think the "newness" has started to die down...
I stayed at the hostel from Thursday night - Saturday night, in an all female 8-bed dormitory. I think the advert was misleading (I booked through Booking.com) as I believe I booked a bed in a 4-bed dormitory, but was placed in an 8-bed room. I didn't care too much to change it, but it did annoy me.
The wifi was absolutely horrible. It didn't work properly in the rooms, and the staff were nonchalant about it, and not feeling bothered enough to do anything about it. Trying to use it in the workspace and lounge area was better, but not that great.
The bathrooms were pretty clean my first night, but by the time we got to Saturday night, I did my best to stay there for as less time as possible! It's expected in communal spaces that cleanliness isn't going to be top-notch 100% of the time...but it's not that hard to clean up after yourself, which it seems like some of these travelers did not know how to do.
This hostel also seemed to display evidence of past attempts at creating a social environment, but this was not apparent during my stay. Apparently the hostel hosted their own walking tour, but it wasn't available when I was there. I happened to befriend one girl staying in my dormitory, but it was not thanks to the hostel.
I paid 66 euros for three nights total. I wouldn't be excited to stay here again, but I spent most of my time outside exploring Porto, so for a place to keep my things and sleep on a bed, this hostel served its purpose. read more
