Price Chopper and Tops' merger forced the latter to sell ten in the state to C&S which revived GU. It was only the second one this year I've gone to after Cortland. It's new to the young people, but older folks will remember. Not quite the Grand Union my late grandma went to in Albany County, but like the old days, having it out of reach only makes me want to go back. Now if they could just replace closed Tops's in Syracuse on the south side and Westvale as well as Ithaca on S Meadow Dr and Great American in Star Lake.

Both of the people working at the checkout stand have been kind and friendly. They have everything from food to potting soil, medication to charcoal, and even some cheap little grills, which, in this area's weather, is probably your best bet, since most expensive grills will rust out on you in a season or two even if you baby and cover them. In a tiny village like Vernon, it's great to have this store. If you just need basic stuff, you can come here instead of stress-testing the vaccine (and your sanity) at Wallyworld down the road.

Not all of the cheeses are produced by small farms, but there is a large selection of those that are. We got lucky enough to make it to their "Customer Appreciation Day" and meet many of the food vendors. It was fun to put faces to the companies and farms - not all were Amish folks, some were outsiders who seemed to be treated with just as much respect. The store is welcoming and seems to have a good attitude. I was hesitant at first, but after a few visits I feel very comfortable shopping there.
