This is an unassuming restaurant right near Antwerp's Central Station, on an odd block with a casino, a strip club, and a parking garage as well as some other restaurants (some open some closed). While nice light comes in the window, there is no interior decor to speak of. But don't let the modest setting deter you. The food speaks for itself. We had the spicy beef noodles in broth - "noedelsoep met gestoofde rundvlees (pikant)", splurging the extra 50 cents for the homemade knife-cut noodles - "mes geschoren noedels" (total 8.50 €). We asked for ours medium spicy. The beef was tender. The broth was flavorful and spicy but not too much for our taste. The noodles were firm, and showed the artisanal marks of being cut by hand. These are truly great noodles! If you are arriving in Antwerp or leaving it, or have an hour to spend between trains, we definitely, definitely recommend stopping off here for a bowl of noodles or one of the other items on the menu (next time we intend to try the dumplings).

Gong bao ji ding (Gong bao chicken) is as good as it gets!

Wow, I mean... wow... this is as good as you get for Sichuanese - a very flavorful and spicy and tongue numbing style - food outside of China!! I lived in China for 10 years and I am an avid Sichuan food lover and eyes closed I can't distinguish the difference between eating this in China or here in Antwerp. The cook (Ni Shifu) is from Chengdu and has been in Belgium for 20 years already. Anyway back to the food now... The taste and ingredients are authentic and the flavor has not been westernised. The restaurant was packed too when I arrived, there aren't too many tables but nevertheless... This is the best authentic Chinese (Sichuanese kitchen) food I have found in Belgium and I have tried quite a few of them before. Oh... they have hot pot... I haven't tried yet but I will try next time.

Probably one of my easy-going favorites, crunchy with sweet-sour sauce

The food was awful. Both dishes were overly spicy and salty. It's the worst Chinese food I ever had.

Best Chinese in Antwerp! Flavors are great, good quantity, and the service is friendly.

We didn't plan to visit this restaurant initially. We were walking around the old city when day…read moreturned to night before we knew it. As dinner beckoned, we stepped into the first restaurant (Mie Katoen) we saw. The restaurant was a surprise. The atmosphere and decor were very nice - the courtyard was lovely (although it was too cold for me to be sitting outside) and the interior was beautifully decorated with old books (like a library). The food (salad bar) was delicious and I could easily have that without the fondue or stone grill. We had both the fondue and stone grill that evening and we were fortunate to be wearing something that were easily washable. The smell from the fondue and stone grill stayed on the clothes and lingered for a long while after we left the restaurant! The ventilation of the restaurant could be improved. I would definitely want to be wearing something expensive in Mie Katoen. The other shortcoming about the restaurant was the language ability of the serving staff. While the serving staff were very friendly and eager to assist, there wasn't anyone who could communicate in English. This did cause a little difficulty and challenge when making our orders. I guess the restaurant don't see many guests from outside Belgium or the Netherlands.

The pro's : Fresh meat, decent portions. Refill possible. Salad bar ok. Fast staff. Good for…read moregroups. Less pro: No real restaurant feeling. All to plain. Guess lot of you have same gourmet-set at home, and can have same quality from local butcher. Bad ventilation also.
