TWO bad trips PLUS their Free Wifi installs Malware on your computer!
What a shame, this place used to be SO good. Only 6 months ago or so we came here 2x/week and it was always great. Back in Antwerp for a few months, I was excited to go back. The first meal was simple --satay, tod nam pla (fish cakes) and fried rice. I had my computer and appreciated the free wifi. What we got however was super dried up chicken that splintered in our mouths and required water to swallow along with dry fish cakes, and bland fried rice with none of the egg that was supposed to be in it. We were so hungry and didn't even finish it. It was terrible, and such a surprising disappointment : (
It took us more than a week to go back, but because we've always loved Lucy Chang we decided to let the bad experience go as a serious "Off Night".
Second time around we switched it up with a chicken curry dish, prawns from the wok and Thai fried rice. We got it to go since we live right next door. Curled up the couch, the bean sprouts and my prawns were fine, but the curry chicken was lacking chicken. The worst part however was the fried rice. It was oddly mushy and gummy as if it was undercooked. Since we both love to cook, even though we were bugged by a second problem we thought we'd fix it the next day. So next day as soon as it we heated the rice, it became even more gummy and sticky with strands of something stretching into the air like marshmallow would??? It totally freaked us out as neither of us can possibly imagine what could have been in that rice other than some kind of weird caking agent or chemical.
* On top of it, we discovered malware in my Mac from their free wifi "Epolife". I had to have my computer cleaned out despite being a MAC --beware because I was told this same malware is much worse on a PC.
Bottom line is this a chain that perhaps got greedy, lazy or both. They used to be great, and if you know even above average Thai food you'll be disappointed with the current delivery. They are definitely adding some strange things to the rice, which makes me distrust most other things. I'm bummed, but honest. Lucy Chang today is not the Lucy Chang they once were. If in Marnixplaats, I'd go to Fiskebar for dinner, Soho for tapas or The Soul Antwerp for yummy snacks. Kaizen Sushi two blocks away also ROCKS! Delish every time for eat in or take out! ; ) read more
