Fun time at NHRA. Couldn't get better seating then in the pit area. The roar of the engines, the strong smell of alcohol fuelled vehicles and smoke bellowing from the tires as they burn off the oil with the thrill and adrenaline of excitement and agony of a ready for competition. Tightening those final bolts with one last check. Feeling 1400 horsepower vibrating through your bones as you sit on the trembling seats at the roar of the engines blasting down the track like a mini rocket from Top Fuel and Funny cars. Enjoy the cars of the past and since you are waiting for the crowds to leave venture into the area behind the stands. There you will see cars from the 50s 60s and 70s. All kinds of styles and by the time you're finished looking at these nice hot rods, it only take a couple minutes to get out of the exit.

The NHRA Winternationals are worth experiencing at least once in your lifetime. I came here years ago and I didn't know what to expect. I was more familiar with Nascar but since I have a short attention span, I anticipated being bored. When the funny cars and dragsters actually speed straight down the track, it's over in less than 5 seconds! That's my kind of race! There's so much anticipation as drivers conduct their burnout and reverse their cars for the inevitable! They ease their way up to the start line and wait for the NHRA Christmas Tree to flash the green light. If their reaction time is too quick, a red light will indicate that the driver has been disqualified. Anyway, as both drivers race down the track at over 300 mph, there is a photo finish. Then, you need to see which side of the score board lights up. That's your winner for that round! The first time that I came here, I didn't have earplugs in and I have never heard such a loud sound in my life! It is intense! Don't dare try this because you'll regret it. The nitro in the air can be intense! It might burn your eyes or irritate your throat but this does not deter hardcore race fans! It comes with the territory. Speaking of nitro, if it is late in the evening you'll get a nice view of flames being emitted from the dragsters! It happens often during daylight hours but it's a gorgeous sight when seen at night! You can walk around and meet all of your favorite drivers. They gladly sign autographs and pose for pictures. It's pretty neat to see the pit crew working on the dragsters and funny cars while focusing on the overall safety of the drivers and fans. The Winternationals are held every February so mark your calendars!

The 2020 National Hot Rod Associations annual "Winternationals" competitive drag racing event is the annual classic drag car and motorcycle event held since 1961 at The Auto Club of Southern California Raceway in Pomona,California. This year's event is now featuring the best in drag racing from around the world, car and automotive vendor displays and tons of great food and drink! There's lots of safe parking available and loads of good family fun at this year's NHRA's Winternationals at The Auto Club Raceway in Pomona California! . . . . #winternationals #dragracing #aaa #autoclub #autoclubraceway #socalautoclub #1961 #johnforceracing #pomona #fairplexpomona #fairplex #ilovecars #quartermile #waynesalvatti #photografxworldwide #topfuel #prostock #funnycars #alcohol #nitro #moonewuipped #mopar #tvtommyivo #ford #chevy #dodge #chrysler #toyota #edelbrock #ratfink #ratrods #justgofast #topfueleliminator #nhra #nationalhotrodassociation #lucasoil #napa #melloyello

Fun time tailgating with friends and watching the drags. Party time later at Dukes. Oh yeah.

A day at the races is always a great day. Especially when the weather is as nice as it was on February 8th in Pomona. It rained the night before but for the day of final eliminations, God made it a beautiful day. It was clear and sunny with temperatures in the 70s with some breezes. These are the perfect conditions for some crazy speeds on the track. Like a 330 MPH in the first round of Top Fuel Dragsters. On this opening day of the NHRA season, the many thousands in attendance received their "baptism by nitro" as it was billed. I have experienced this in the past at other tracks but this was a first in Pomona. It is a one of a kind experience to feel the fully immersive event. The nitro methane fuel creates 10,000 HP, one of the loudest sounds on earth that you can feel in your chest, and an exhaust that could just about be weaponized. It burns your eyes, nose, throat and lungs. You love it and hate it at the same time. It gets into your blood and makes you want more. This is baptism by nitro and it is so much more special at Pomona than anywhere else. This is THE race. The first of the season in Southern California where it all began. This may be the pinacle of NHRA races but this is not the best track I've been to. It is older and tightly packed into the Pomona Fairplex. There is only one way in and one way out of the parking lot. A parking lot that is so small that attendees are forced to double park. With no room for expansion this will always be the case. But there are moveable barricades that allow for an easy exit. Inside, the grand stands are confusing. Sections start and end in the middle of a bench. This means seat numbers will go from 12 at the right end of the bench to 1 in the middle. Then next to 1 is 20 and goes to 13 at the left end of the bench. This one bench is in both section 8 and section 9, for example. My dad and I were in the wrong seats at first. We were near the sign for section 9 but were actually sitting in 8. We had to move over a bit. We were not the only ones confused by this. It seems it would make more sense to have each section begin and end at the isles rather than in the middle. If this is the worst part of this track, I guess it isn't so bad. Afterall, once you find your seat and the engines start, nothing else matters.

The course ended up being about 2.5 miles. There was only ONE water station for the entire run, which is pretty unacceptable even for a fun run. Parking was another mess. They didn't mention any parking fees until two days before the event via text, and when we got there, it was just employees standing around with bags collecting $20 cash. No cards and no prior clear communication. It felt very unprofessional. Bib pickup was probably the worst part. The pickup itself was on Friday, but we were only told about the 4-8 PM window the Monday before, which is already short notice. When we got there, it took an hour and a half just to get to the front of the line, and that was with VIP. I've done much larger events before, and none of them were anywhere near this chaotic. The race start itself made no sense. Instead of organized waves, they just had everyone crowd at the gate and go at once. The course clearly wasn't designed to handle that many people. It was overcrowded, with lots of people walking, and we were constantly dodging others and even low hanging tree branches. I'm 5'9 and the person I ran with is 6'4, and it genuinely felt unsafe at times trying to avoid both people and obstacles. If you're actually trying to run, this is not the event for you. You won't be able to maintain any kind of pace. They also offered the option to create a team name online that would appear on your bib, but when I showed up, it was just a generic bib with a duck and a number. No customization and no tracking, which makes the bib feel pointless. Honestly, it's something that could have just been printed at home. Overall, this felt poorly planned and poorly executed. It might be fine if you're just going for a casual, messy experience, but if you expect even basic race organization, this will be disappointing.

Packet pickup: either on Sat or Sun morning before the race. It was super helpful that I could pick up my shirt and bib the morning before the race since I had to work on Sat! Course: pretty hilly! If you are the type of runner who feeds on loud music and crazy spectators cheering you on, this race is NOT for you. The course is very quiet, serene, and only had one small two person live band. Since the course runs through Bonelli Park and some paths near Raging Waters, there weren't a lot of spectators. Fuel stations: water and Gatorade stations were maybe every two miles. I didn't like how they diluted the Gatorade. I want to taste Gatorade, not lemon water! The water also had a weird taste. They had a Cliff GU station around Mile 9. PRIZE: The half marathon shirt was pretty nice and comfy. I've worn it several times since the race to the gym! The medal is sparkly, heavy, and pretty =D Price: I paid $76 (processing fee included) during early bird registration. The race was in December and I registered in February. Verdict: I think there are better races that offer a nicer route for the price. I found the course to be a bit boring, especially since there aren't that many spectators.

ID check was non-existent, so there was no absolute way to verify who bought a legitimate ticket or who was claiming to be a person on the list with a common name. One "water station" throughout the whole track...which really was a kiddie pool with 24-pack water bottles. I guess I was too slow because the gazelles in front of me had ransacked them, leaving nothing for the thirsty slowpokes. The end of the race was highly anticlimactic...passing the parking lot and back to the start, with cones all of a sudden disappearing to signal the "end" and people sauntering off to their cars after taking a few jump shots. Would do again, but I am more willing to try the Color Run instead next time.

Good change in elevation! * Awesome volunteers at each color blast station and handing out water! THANK YOU! * Lots of fun! Super colorful and lots of encouragement from volunteers and runners alike. * Several leaf blowers as "color removers" and blasting all the loose powder off. * Water-soluble and non-toxic fun that was easy to wash off, thank goodness. Con: * Being the first year it was pretty disorganized. The check-in line was free for all and ended up being SUPER LONG. I think could benefit from separating by alphabets like A-H, I-O, P-Z or something so that the poor volunteers don't have to go through the entire binder for day-of check ins. Tabs would be helpful also. We were in line for 2 hours coz we couldn't make it to pick up the day before. * Mile or any distance marker would be helpful for those who are running and trying to figure out the time. But it would be good to encourage people, plus you can get people to sponsor for the mile markers for some more funding. * Not very much vendors at the end of the race. * Took more than 20minutes between each wave of runners. All in all a great start! Can't wait to do it again next year!

I remember at one point as we were walking around I said "It just keeps going!" Secondly, the light displays are amazing. If you're looking for photos to post on social media, this is the place for you. Everywhere we turned we were like "Oh, wow!" and stopped so many times to take photos. A couple of the displays were also animatronic. There were also little freestanding rooms with mirrors that turn the small space into an infinity room. You just have to wait outside in a line until it's your turn to go in. And other rooms had seating, flowers, and Christmas trees specifically for people to pose and take pictures with. They also had a live circus act and carnival games. There were food trucks and food stalls with places to sit down and eat. There was also a "Transformer" car, so we actually decided to sit and eat there while we waited for the show to start, but they will try to charge you a small fee if you want to take a close up picture with it and they'll try to sell you toy versions of it. When we went on the ferris wheel, we actually got to see it transform from our aerial view. We also got a great overview of how expansive the light displays were and noticed an area we hadn't gotten to yet, so after the ride we went there. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the long line and wait to get in while sitting in our car. We also got a little lost trying to find the entrance because Google Maps told us to go to the wrong gate. I think it's been fixed since then. Overall, though, it was a great experience. Right now they have a Wizard of Oz theme blended perfectly with Christmas decorations, and it is done beautifully. I came with my family and brought my nieces and nephews, and they loved every second of it. There are so many cute photo opportunities throughout the entire display--lots of small themed rooms, different styles of décor, and incredible light installations. I honestly was not expecting it to be as big as it is. There is a lot to see and do, so give yourself plenty of time. Since it's outdoors, definitely dress warm because it gets very cold at night. Admission typically starts after 5 p.m., and I highly recommend going during the week (Monday-Thursday) right when they open so you can enjoy everything without feeling rushed and to avoid the weekend crowds. There's so much included with admission alone that you don't even need to spend extra money. Kids will love the DIY stations, themed rooms, bob pit (which is free), snow display, and all the interactive areas. They also have a carnival with rides where you can purchase an unlimited ride bracelet (around $40), but we skipped the rides and still had more than enough to do. One of the highlights was Santa Claus--he was fantastic and looked just like Santa should! The kids were thrilled, and the staff overall was very friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. This event is truly perfect for all ages and ideal for a family outing during Christmas time. Everything was beautiful, well-organized, and thoughtfully done.
