Glad to finally be out of there…read more I was a resident for 7 years and the only reason I stayed that long was because I had the "Locked-in for life" promotion that kept my rent from increasing with each renewal. Which is something I had to remind them of every time I renewed my lease because they tried to circumvent the promotion each year and illegally increase my rent. The property is small and boasts a ridiculous trail around the area that's rendered completely useless by the inordinate amount of geese droppings that litter every inch of the area. The geese have free reign over the complex and Darby/Sexton doesn't seem to care about cleaning the area. The complex has one entrance at 21st and High School, so if that intersection is closed due to a traffic accident or inclement weather, you're screwed. The complex only has one dumpster, so every week (sometimes days before it's emptied), it would overflow and bags of garbage would be left piled all along the side of the dumpster and overflow onto Ferrari Place. (If you have a unit next to the dumpster, be prepared not to be able to have your windows and/or patio/balcony open.) I had to call 911 on a routine basis because a neighbor never properly ventilated their apartment when cooking, causing the entire building's fire alarm to go off. The property apparently does not get run reports from emergency services as they never put out a notice telling the residents to not create a fire hazard in their units. So I guess make sure you have good renter's insurance if you move in here. There is no sense of management in the office at all. Or above them at Sexton, for that matter. I overheard employees complaining openly about the property manager (something about a dress code) in the presence of residents and prospective residents. Since I was primarily working from home, I was sharing a car with a relative and was told by the office that they couldn't issue a parking pass for it specifically because it was registered in my relative's name. For two years, anytime I had the car on the property, I had to get a guest pass for it every 3 days so it wouldn't be towed. There was NEVER any wiggle room on the 3 day limit despite the office knowing it was the only vehicle I had on the property. In my last year in Darby, someone from the office told me that I actually could get a parking pass for the car despite my name not being on the registration. I made sure to get the guest pass every three days because the complex has a contract with what must be the most aggressively predatory towing company in Indianapolis. I was unaware a friend didn't park in the guest area and his vehicle was towed within 2 hours of him being there. (To be fair, the predatory towing practices do come in handy when someone is murdered in the complex while soliciting someone for prostitution: https://www.wishtv.com/news/crime-watch-8/man-found-dead-in-vehicle-at-apartments-death-ruled-a-homicide/) Maintenance is a joke as well. In the summer, condensation would build up in the a/c unit in the apartment, causing a steady drip from the corner of the panel onto the carpet. This happened each year and each time it took multiple work orders to be fixed. Unrelated to that, I had a maintenance emergency after hours last year where my a/c wasn't working. It was 90 degrees, so I called the after hours number and ended up playing phone tag with the on-call maintenance staff because he refused to just come fix it. There was an issue with my phone rejecting private numbers calling me. So I left multiple voicemails with the after hours maintenance system explaining that his calls were not coming through and to just come fix my a/c. He didn't and I had to sleep in a 90 degree apartment. He then came over at 9am when the office opened and was able to fix the air conditioning in 5 minutes without even entering my unit. Why have on-call emergency maintenance if they aren't going to do their job? Speaking of not doing their jobs, the property decided not to renew my lease for an 8th year and DIDN'T BOTHER NOTIFYING ME. At all. The only reason I knew that my lease wasn't being renewed was because Tony in the office asked me if I "got the letter we sent last week regarding your lease" when I went to pick up another guest pass. When I said no and asked what it was, he wouldn't tell me and asked numerous times in a very condescending manner if I "was sure" I didn't get it. Yeah, I was positive I didn't get it because it was never delivered. He then said they'd reprint it and deliver it. Not that he could just print it off then and there or even tell me what it was referring to. Review continued in the images since I met the review cap, apparently...

My family and I absolutely loved Greystone apartments! We lived there for two years (2017-part of…read more2020). Probably would not have ever moved out except we got a real house. My family has lived in 5 different apartment complexes over the years, and Greystone was by far our favorite. The Maintenance team at Greystone was always great about dealing with various issues (everything from a faulty drawer to needing a hot water heater replaced) - often they were able to come by the very day we called in with a problem! Never had any trouble with management, with one possible exception; our dishwasher was old and kind of crappy, and we requested it to be replaced several times. Since it was technically still working, they declined. Oh well; we washed a lot of dishes by hand. A pain but wasn't a deal breaker. The playground and fenced dog park areas were both small and not fancy, but they certainly were nice to have so close! Our dog especially loved having a place to run and stretch her legs. The dog area would get pretty muddy in the spring though. Oh well. Maybe someday they will turf it. I always felt safe when going on walks around the complex. Greystone had lots of doggie-bag stations around for dog owners to use. Not everyone picks up after their dogs though, so that would be a bit of a negative. However, I personally feel like that's the dog owner's fault, not Greystone's. The workout room is not fancy; two treadmills, 5lb to 50lb dumbbell weights, 5 various medicine balls, a bicycle, and a weighted/cabled body machine...basics. Nothing fancy but definitely more than I had in my apartment! I loved going to the workout room for an hour and then enjoying the pool afterwards (summertime, of course). Kept me more active than I would have been if they weren't on the premises! Speaking of the pool, my family LOVED it. It was usually open between Memorial Day and Labor Day, (though COVID may have affected that schedule this year). The pool is only 5ft at its deepest point, which was actually great for me and my kids. Even if the kids wandered into water that was too deep for them: I could always get to them quickly and easily because I could touch the bottom at all times. I also think the water stays a little bit warmer (comfortably) because of the more shallow depth, but that's just a guess! There are two stair areas; great for the non-swimmers to splash or sit in. We spent so many hours at the pool and I really miss it now! I know that it is not everyone's experience, but we also were very lucky to have great neighbors during our entire two years. That's not really something that can be guaranteed or quantified, but I figure you get out what you put into it! There are great people who live at Greystone, and if you put time into meeting your neighbors, you will find them. If you choose Greystone as your home, I hope you have as great of an experience as we did! Good luck in your search for an apartment.
