No children or pets were in my apartment. The cleaning bill was for 30 hours of cleaning! It was a small apartment, that was falling apart when I moved in. There is no way it would have been that much. I am incredibly disappointed and frustrated with their lack of professionalism.

Positive cash flow was lost to expensive repairs. Our agreement to have us approve anything greater than $250 was often ignored. They did not want us recommending contractors or service providers that were more reasonable because 'we can't make a profit that way.' In fact they suggested we part ways as a result.

This is the WORST place to live. The "management" here is awful! They don't even call themselves…read moremanagement. If you have a question, half the time they can't even tell you the answer, and they say "it's not my job." My question is, what is their job? Then they might give you a California phone number, where you talk to Rita. She doesn't speak English well and is completely rude. Every time I tried to contact anyone I've gotten yelled at over the phone. There is no communication system. If you like to pay extra bills and not get all the information, you should live here. Ps. They say they're pet friendly, but they are rude and judgemental. They always tell me I have to make my dog pee in a certain area (like I have any control of his bladder).

Also very easy to work with when we were moving out (I've had a few property mgmt services that turned into evil badgers when you decided to leave). These people aren't like that and are very kind/nice people. Unfortunately they contract out their emergency services, so you can't get someone local on the phone right away if something happens. My fiance noticed significant water leaking into his place one night and couldn't get a hold of anyone. Turns out his neighbor's swamp cooler was never closed and their apartment was flooding with water, with no one there to report it. They did finally get out their and fix it, but it took longer than necessary. Also, they don't really "do anything" about current apartment problems. For example, our refrigerator leaked HORRIBLY (puddles of water under the ice machine) and they just kind of shrugged their shoulders and said "well, we could replace it, but it wouldn't be as nice of a refrigerator as you have now." Um....okay. Also, last annoying thing, but they don't accept rent online and you have to go drop off a paper check at the office. It's 2014. Anyway, they're totally worth renting from, but just know this stuff up front.

PSGJ will gut your deposit for owner related upgrades and lining the pockets of their employees/contractors, i.e. replace outlet covers; re-keying the unit, while at the same demanding you return the keys or pay for the re-key (their own office documented that the keys were returned), and repainting after only a year's tenancy for a unit which was left in pristine condition. Find an owner/landlord property without the third party, and GJ isn't very big but you'd be better off with any other management company besides PSGJ. Side note, met the actual owner of my property who is from GJ but now lives in Chicago. He was physically in my unit multiple times just a couple of weeks before I moved out and he thanked me for taking such good care of the apartment. Be willing to bet PSGJ didn't share their unscrupulous behavior with him or the other property owners they represent. This warning is for potential tenants, but landlords too should be wary of the company they keep.

Freedom Property Management bought out Wakefield Property Management almost a year ago. This past…read moreyear has been a blessing for the tenants! Unlike the previous owners, Freedom actually fixes things, and does so in a timely fashion. They appear to be trying to bring the properties up to date while also trying to give the tenants a "bigger city" feel with items available online such as payments and requests. The rental office is even open a full day on Fridays (big change) and is actually staffed through lunch. Three complaints that are directly related to them: 1) some lack of communication when trying to schedule showings of apartments tenants are leaving, 2) some minor professionalism issues in the office (having discussions about other tenants loudly and in front of other people), 3) they don't have any buildings in San Francisco for me to rent (because I would DEFINITELY rent from them again!).
