If he hadn't been, the sale of my property and my purchase of the next one would not have happened on time. I am also an attorney and was preparing to do my own sale when I was called out of town. I had to quickly find another attorney and selected James. He responded instantly to my request for his services. And that response time held throughout our entire interaction. I was very frequently emailing James in the evenings with documents and questions and he would review and respond right away. Because of his responsiveness, my sale closed on time. I'm really pleased and recommend James highly.

I was represented by Kogut & Wilson for an extended period, first through my divorce and later…read moreduring post-decree litigation. My experience was mixed. During the divorce itself, I had a positive relationship with the firm and generally trusted their work and billing. I appreciated the attorneys' efforts during what was a very difficult time in my life. Unfortunately, my experience during the post-decree proceedings was quite different. Legal fees increased substantially, and after I began reviewing the invoices more carefully, I identified billing issues that required corrections. I also became concerned about repeated internal attorney conferences, repeated reviews of certain records, communications with third parties that I was not informed about contemporaneously, and charges for work that, from my perspective as the client, produced limited practical benefit. At the same time, there were occasions when I waited several days for responses to questions concerning an active case. I raised these concerns directly with the firm on multiple occasions. Although the firm did provide some credits and ultimately worked with me to resolve the final outstanding balance, the repeated billing and communication issues gradually eroded the trust I had developed with the firm during my divorce. My advice to prospective clients is not that the firm cannot provide capable representation, but to be very proactive about cost management: review every invoice carefully, ask questions promptly, establish expectations regarding internal conferences and staffing, and make sure you understand what work is being performed and why. I wish the firm and its attorneys well, but based on my post-decree experience, I would have difficulty recommending full-service representation without very close monitoring of legal fees and communication.
