4 month ago, I separated from my wife after relapsing. After living in my car for a week and shopping around rooms to rent, I decided to look up sober living and landed on calling Next Step. I talked to their Director of Operations, David. Who patiently took the time to listen to me and understand my circumstance. He offered to work with me and my financial situation, and let me stay there while I worked at my job full time. They allowed me to tour the house late after work at 9pm. I ended up staying for over an hour and just talked life with one of the managers. I decided I was in the right place. The following 4 months had allowed me to focus on my sobriety, and relearn how to operate as a roommate. It truly taught me to be a sober adult again. And now I am back home with my wife in good graces. For anyone that is truly desperate for a better, sober life, and needs a place to challenge that in yourself, this place is a perfect place to do that. I cannot say enough positive things about Next Step Recovery. My daughter is a resident while being treated for dual diagnosis mental health and alcohol abuse. She had been asked to leave a previous living situation due to her inability to follow the rules. NSR environment is structured yet compassionate, creating the perfect balance for recovery. They worked with her to meet her needs and follow the rules, all the while making her feel welcome. The staff genuinely cares about each resident's progress and provides resources, accountability, and encouragement every step of the way. They worked within my daughter's diagnosis in a compassionate, understanding way that made her feel welcome rather than outcasted. They kept me well informed of her progress and the plan to achieve success while living in their facility. I was attending a program in connections with NextStep. Another house manager and some women I lived with went to this same program. Upon leaving to a detox, my things were left behind. When I returned to claim my things, nearly all my prized possessions were missing. Bags, pants, shirts, furniture even! The most expensive items were gifts. All missing. I come to find out people had been discussing how blatantly they stole my items. The house manager condoned this behavior and have continued to ignore my messages about obtaining the rest of my items. Beyond that my stay was tragic. Having had several conversations with both house managers about how I feel I'm walking on egg shells around them, only to be told that's just her personality, several people say the same thing and I'm simply too sensitive. Overall my needs weren't met, the care wasn't there, there was no care when it came to the clients. Which I understand, they work, they're not our friends. However, it was very, very clear we weren't friends. That is, aside from her one friend that was a client at the same time as me who was then hired on to the same house as her. These two have ended up condoning such tragic behavior from all the clients. All the women in the house using and remaining. It was a poor experience all around. Anyone looking for a Peaceful place to get sober - steer clear of this recovery home. The house is falling apart, the weeds in the front have grown so high that the neighbors stare, there was a mouse seen in the kitchen repeatedly, and when it rained it poured onto the entire upstairs hallway. I was there for over 3 months, and they put a pot to catch the water and told us we "should be grateful." The common areas in the house were constantly filthy. I'm presently at one of the "California" houses. The houses are newer, contemporary design. They're large, clean and well kept. The staff here are fantastic people - from the bottom up. They're all here to do good work and help people. There's a sincerity about about of them that's comforting. The client base feels like it was curated for us. This is a long YELP, but an easy read with a lot of pertinent information if you are considering living here or sending your daughter here. I've lived here at Ñext Step for 3 months. It has been a good experience. The house is kept clean by tenants. Staff members are extremely encouraging. They are examples of how to use the tools and resources that are at my fingertips; local meetings, the ocean, effective communication, exercise, artistic expression etc.... There is an influx of girls and various personalities, but this is life! Principles before personalities. Right? We are all addicts for Gods sake! Progress is the goal here, not perfection. The staff are good examples. This experience has given me the opportunity to develop patience and application of the 12 steps. There is a variety of all walks of life coming in and moving on in this house. Sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly! This fosters learning who you like or need to avoid for your own sanity. Selection of managers has been great in the few months that I have lived here. The facility gave me the opportunity to find my Rhythm, as I got back on my feet. The curfew rules are a bit strict, but guide us in developing a regimen of good self care. Sleep is critical in allowing our bodies to heal. After all, we've done some damage to our bodies from drinking or abusing chemicals! Next Step provided the opportunity for me to re-establish my Arcadian rhythm. If there are roomate issues or room preferences, they work with you. Thank you! Accommodations include: comfortable beds, a personal safe, flatscreens in every room, a shared fridge, large washer, dryer and dishwasher, bikes, kayaks, pool, jaquizzi, pool table, a cool library, Uber's as a group to local meetings, overnight visits with family or friends with permissionntimate AA meetings and panels here at the house. A lot of good laughs about sobriety happen at this crazy - fun place. The nature of sober living is kaotic, but so is life, once you stand on your own 2 feet. Next step is like going to college to get prepared for real life out in the world. Structured disciplined in a sober living is a great start, as a fresh sober alcoholic. The tougher they are on us... the better we are once we leave. There is a method to this madness. As I depart successfully, I simply want to say Thank you Next Step for assisting me in transitioning back into society. Next step Recovery is one of the few legitimate sober livings in Orange County. As a Case Manager I refer a lot of clients there because I know they will be well taken care of. There is 24 hour supervision, round the clock counseling and a zero tolerance policy. I can only assume that the poor reviews were written by former clients that were asked to leave and are bitter. If it were for myself or a loved one, I would send them to Next Step. It's a great place if you really want to get sober. If not, there are plenty of flop house sober livings around. read more

I came to Next Step Recovery about a year ago! Next Step has really saved my life. The staff works around the clock to ensure all clients are safe, and cared for. The owner, COO, and director of operations are great as well. **O waited to post this so I had time to really reflect on the actions taken that night I love the sober living I'm at now and I'm not bitter but not only is this SL ILLEGALLY overcrowded the HM act unethically and you are not treated properly!!! As much as it pains me this is my personal experience with them and well it may be a longish read if you are really considering living here or having your daughter live here you really should know what your moving into! Good luck on your journey I will miss the girls I became close to but this needed to be known:( my experience a couple weeks ago I was kicked out in the middle of the night when I got back from an AA meeting with other clients, Completely Sober! I've lived and worked in treatment for awhile now and never have I come across a situation as unprofessional and aggressive toward a client from STAFF of all things. It deeply saddens me to have to write this review. I was staying at the house referred to as ROUNDHILL I was there for about a month with 14 other girls all under the same roof! To say the house was overcrowded would be a understatement. Us girls were literally on top of each other due to the bunk beds they have in the rooms there. Never have I seen bunk beds in a sober living. There is absolutely no privacy and no breathing room. That is why it is also illegal to have 15 beds to a house the MAXIMUM for the state of California is 8 and Next Step can get shut down any day for, So not only is the number of other clients illegal it is also a very uncomfortable situation for all. Which shows it is only about money for them. Too many personalities under one roof can be extremely stressful and filled with drama which is something we should hope to avoid at home in early sobriety and not only is the "gossip" and mood swings and aggressive behavior coming from the clients unfortunately is also coming from the staff. This makes for an extremely uncomfortable place to go home to and you are left feeling unsafe. The beginning of my stay was not terrible the staff was polite and the house was not full at the time. Later when the "home" was filling the staff I believe had a lot of personal issues going on and that effected the way we were treated. It also led to them talking negatively about the girls in the house to other clients. A new weekend manager was hired named Jill with barely any sobriety started treating clients like inmates and the twin sisters just started to hide away in the room or snap on us. The night I was THROWN OUT of the house I had asked if the conversation about my early curfew thay they had put in place for being only 3 minutes late would be finished Sarah(HM) told me I was lying and I was lucky to even get to be there long story short I said "okay well I would have left to another sober living if I had known and would probably do so tomorrow" since I had been being put on all these crazy restrictions for too long which were becoming harmful to my sobriety not helpful then I began to get up to go pack and they all took their turns by saying get out Jill said okay then get out leave already I said to her you're going to be great at working in treatment with that attitude we'll leaving the room the all started screaming to me it said in your contract you have to get along with us so now your kicked out Suz one of the HM yelled to get the f**k out (it was 10:30 pm) luckily I had a car so the thirty minutes I was given to pack and go I had at least a way and wasn't on the street. Luckily I did not relapse over it but that is the reason I am writing this review. I really don't like having to negatively speak about people but if this happened to me it could happen to another girl that may end up crashing drunk or overdosing from going through such a awful experience. We all deserve to feel safe in our sober environment and to feel supported not kicked to a curb on the middle of the night. read more

Next step really cares for its clients. It's the first sober living iv been to were the staff/house managers actually encourage and care for you . It's really set me up to be the woman I am today. Onsite supervision and local meetings that are within walking distances. Plus the beach is right outside the door! I'd recommend this place to family and friends read more

I was picked up from my treatment center in Long Beach in May by a Manager from Next Step Recovery and brought straight over to an amazing house in Huntington Beach. I'm 37 and this is my first time in recovery and in a "sober living house". I had no idea what to expect, coming over with only my clothes and a toothbrush. The guys in my house welcomed me which was soooo nice and a huge relief off my shoulders. The house manager even personally drove me to a Target store and offered me a gift card so I could buy some food and essentials that I really needed since I didn't have my car with me, very thoughtful. That made me feel like I was right where I was supposed to be; especially with food, security and a bed to sleep in (which are all big, full sized beds with pillows and a down comforter..!!). Nice closest space and a window in my room fir fresh air, plus a cool view on the 3rd story balcony....!!!!!! The kitchen is upper class and we have a freeken BBQ outside to cook steaks on. Next Step has been such a positive light in my life and such a huge aid in my sobriety. We go to meetings together and there's Next Step functions like volleyball at the beach(which is a short walk away) and most recently a huge Thanksgiving dinner prepared by a chef fir those that weren't able to make it home fir the holiday. That says a lot and just shows how much this place cares about their residents. Personally, this was my first sober Thanksgiving and I can't be more thankful and grateful to Next Step and the guys here for being in and a part of my life. read more

All about the money. Staff is beyond rude. House managers are all dry, and are doing steroids while passionately advocating steroid use to young adults. The guy jason that manages the houses told me to call the cops when someone stole a bunch of my shit and hung up on me. 4 people per bedroom, some are tiny, and the house managers sleep in the garage(I'm not kidding). They hide this by only allowing one person in front of the house to smoke at a time, and u are only allowed to access the house from the alley in the back or else you get "written up". They ask 1500 a month while pile driving your insurance. It honestly might be illegal how many people they put into one room. My entire stay almost the whole house was getting loaded off dangerous designer drugs.(house managers are oblivious and dont care) I cannot recommend this place to anyone unless u want them to OD and learn insurance fraud. Every five star comment above was made by employees. I would give a negative review if i could. There are a ton of better programs to choose from that care about you, and provide much more comfortable living space. Just take a walkthrough before u decide. read more

Next Step Recovery was recommended to me from my treatment center, and has done an amazing job with collaborating with my outpatient care IOP and treatment team. I have been treated with respect, love, and kindness throughout my stay, and when I struggled, was offered support and encouragement. The house that I am staying in is amazing, well kept, and a pleasure to come home to. They provide a safe and surprisingly luxurious sober living environment with around the clock staff, around the clock surveillance cameras for my clients safety and clinical support with daily and weekly updates on clients. I couldn't tell you if I would still be sober without the help from NEXT step in providing me the tools I needed in order to build a foundation. The support staff is full of love and care and never have made me feel like a chore or annoyance. Even with all the clients Next Steps CEO knows me personally and knows my story. Next Step seems to be all about money. I was told insurance would cover then when my son was on the way there was told I had to put $1500 on my charge. There were 5 guys to a small bedroom and 21 guys in the house. It seemed very crowded for that price. The worst part of it was that my son got several things stolen and they did nothing about it each time. I would not recommend. read more
