They specialize in practical reading, writing, and speaking skills. For students, they have emerging and intermediate programs, as well as classes that focus on parenting, citizenship and workplace English. In April I attended the ESLC for training to become a ESL teacher. For $50 they provide a 2-weekend training at their headquarters in South Salt Lake; complete with heart-string jerking stories of their students, role playing real-life scenarios, creating a lesson plan and a swanky orange tote bag. The staff and mentors are amazing and I completed the program feeling a lot of responsibility in my new teaching role, but well-equipped and with an ample support system. They also encourage you to sit in on a class to get hands-on experience. The staff at ESLC opened my mind to what a impact confidence in language makes. From a parent who wants to ask questions their child's parent-teacher conferences, to an individual that wants a more fulfilling career.

We also provide free citizenship preparation classes, to help individuals prepare for the US naturalization test & learn English. Students can register for class at the English Skills Learning Center Office on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm. We also offer opportunities to become a volunteer teacher in one of our English classrooms. Potential volunteers can apply on the English Skills Learning Center website (eslcenter.org).

We evaluated multiple programs and decided on Sylvan. I've enjoyed the experience at Sylvan this far in our journey. The staff is very warm and friendly, making our kids at ease. knowledgeable and responsive to my questions and concerns. They have worked diligently to create a custom plan for my 7YO son and 10YO daughter. They embrace feedback and take action. My kids like the environment more than other programs because of the small groups and prize wall. We like the schedule flexibility also. We are committed to six months of the program and it's off to a great start.
