The bottom line is that this company operates with a level of integrity that I find to be unmatched. At the time I purchased my home over a year ago I was single (obviously female), and a first time home owner. I purchased a spec house, and had done walkthroughs of a couple other spec homes that were built by other contractors in the area. Next Gen's was definitely of better quality. A reasonable person doesn't expect top tier luxury out of a spec house, but I don't believe you expect low quality either. This home was built with solid mid-quality materials that are beautiful and show foresight on Next Gen's part. In other words, they balanced cost (which obviously goes into your purchase price, and homes are already very expensive now) and quality very well. The layout of my home also shows they put thought into how things would/could be used. I definitely appreciate not having areas drywalled and closed off, that could otherwise have been used for closet or nook space! Let's just say, I've got an excellent amount of storage space. There is no wasted square footage.
During the final walkthrough, they made it a point to impress upon me to take advantage of the 1 year warranty. Not long after moving in, we discovered a crack in the foundation. NORMAL for a new home. They came in and sealed it expeditiously, and I haven't had a single problem with the foundation since. I also had a big problem with my yard and I thought that the fix was going to destroy my positive opinion of Next Gen. It did not. When I say they didn't hesitate to make it right, I mean it. I appreciate them for not making it a battle. I really want to stress that. Outside of those two issues, I've only had one other problem, which is covered by a lifetime warranty offered by the company Next Gen used in the first place.
There's a lot of huffing and puffing from some members of my community, but perhaps you shouldn't purchase a home next to vacant land, and assume you have any right to dictate exactly what an owner of said land does with it in the future. It also pays to speak kindly to people, and give them a chance.
