There was a billing issue at the start of the year but the owner/manager worked with us immediately to resolve it so we opted to stay and I'm so glad we did! My daughter who is 6 enjoys her weekly sessions. I booked two classes back to back because it's just better for us for her to have longer times in the pool since we don't live close to this school. So far it has worked out great. I also like that the facility opened in September 2025 (which was when we first joined) so it's still new and things are still kept clean. I like that my daughter gets to swim with different instructors every now and then because I believe each one has their own techniques and way of swimming that might click for some kinds and not others. The only way to know is to actually try it! My daughter knows how to swim now but we still go here every week so that she can work on her form and technique. I anticipate this to be a multi year activity for my daughter. Cheers!

Every time we went,…read morethere was a different teacher for my 3 year old so it's like starting from scratch all over again. Worse is that no one was even making notes of his progress. So after over a month of going there, no one wrote down his progress. For example, my son can definitely float on his own but it wasn't filled in. His progress page has nothing written down. As for my 5 year old, we went on a vacation with a pool access and he started swimming in the deep end unassisted on the second day of vacation and by the end he was swimming 40 feet laps. When we came back to this swim school, I communicated that to his swim instructor Gavin. The instructor ignored me and kept him in the same class. Then I went to the front office with my concerns, and the girl said she'll make a note of that so my son can take a placement test next time we come in. Then, when I booked makeup classes for my sons on a Saturday. We got all ready and came to class, they informed us that they have canceled them. We just canceled our memberships right then. This swim school also puts floaties on the kids while learning to swim which I thought was the opposite of what you're supposed to do.

Review #845 2025-017…read more George Mannon Aquatic Center (aka Torrance Aquatic Center) opened on Saturday, 03/03/18 with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Enter on the driveway between Honda Service Center & Starbucks, the aquatic center is between Torrance Elementary School & Shery High School. Eric Trujillo, former North HS student & design committee member, designed the facility's logo; the "Shield Marquee" is displayed at the entrance. The $15M project was made possible by Bond Measure U funds (approved in 11/2014), so this state-of-the-art pool has been long awaited by the community; yeah, I voted for this, not knowing my LO will be using the aquatic center 7 years later. She made her high school's JV swim team in her freshman year for the 2024-2025 school year with swim season held between mid-02/2025 - mid-04/2025. It's awe-inspiring to watch her & teammates race in this beautiful facility! The aquatic center has a 60-meter Olympic size competition & warm-up pools (both partially heated by solar panels) with 10 competition & 12 warm-up lanes, 600-seat spectator bleachers, separate lockers for TUSD's 4 high schools (Torrance, North, South, & West HS), & visiting teams changing room. There are showers available, but I'm told they're not working. While designed to allow 2 sports to be played simultaneously, her school competition schedule has not calendared concurrent competitions. The District Aquatic Programs include both water polo & swim, but no diving, in this proper world-class competitive facility. Upon entering, the far left pool is for water polo & swim meets, with middle & right pools are for practices. I thought I saw lessons for the younger set, but I could be wrong? According to USA Swimming, Swim Torrance is a local swim club that uses GMAC for training. Her team's locker room is 1 of 2 schools that's next to the competition pool. Time pads are a bit wonky since it's been 6 years, so H relies on the volunteer timers to record her times/splits. I wished they thought of building a snack shack by the NE corner near the water fountains, instead of using tents & foldable tables to set-up the snack stand. It's extra time needed by the parent volunteers for set-up & tear-down. The parking lot ginormous & is used by the aquatic center & also the adjacent baseball field. No diamond (prime) spaces by the entrance, but the circular driveway makes it easy for drop-offs & pick-ups unless the driver just parks their car, blocking others. \(`0´)/ The spectator bleachers have shade structures, but coverage is limited in the later afternoon/when the sun is setting unless you're sitting in the top/back row. We have to give props to The Plunge for their youth swim lessons to get her where she is today.

There is overhead coverage for the seating, but if it's the wrong time of day, you'll definitely be getting blasted by the sun straight in your face. We were able to get roof access to stream our event which was nice and have plenty of room for large tents, team seating and more. They also have nice meeting rooms where we tend to serve food to our athletes or hold team meetings.

When I was given a tour four years ago, I knew what questions to ask regarding the curriculum and was impressed by the rigor, the class sizes, and the feel of community. So I decided to make the investment and move my son from a nearby public school to Rolling Hills Country Day School. One of the reasons was my son was diagnosed with moderate ADD and I knew he needed more personal attention and would thrive in a smaller school setting. It was the best decision! I do admit it took him a few months to get acclimated due to the academic rigor because the standards were different at his previous school. However, I loved it so much that a year later, I transferred my daughter there and now my third child attends RHCDS! I wish my kids could personally write a review. They absolutely love their school. They are eager to get to school early to play on the field before class! This school offers them a place where they feel safe and genuinly cared for. They not only have the academic rigor that in today's society is imperative, but they also prioritize in teaching values. Be a kind human is their motto and they definitely instill this on a daily basis. Learning and living by these values is what a child needs to thrive and be happy so they can focus in school. My son is now in middle school (upper school) and I know he will no doubt be prepared for any top rated high school. They focus on giving back to the community, character/values, teach independence, all the while really preparing these kids for high school. This school truly offers a fine balance. They have specialized teachers for various subjects, including technology. They also focus on presentation skills and even my little 7 year old has presented in front of the lower school! This is such an important communication skill that is disregarded in many elementary schools. I have also made amazing friends at RHCDS and I truly feel I am part of a family, or small community, even though I am a working mom and am not able to be there as much as I would like. I know my kids are cared for, safe, happy, challenged academically, and taught the same values that I teach at home. RHCDS is truly one of a kind and am so grateful to be a part of it.

We have been treated like family over the years - our children feel safe and known by their teachers and any questions or requests to the administration or teachers have been promptly and thoughtfully addressed. Our oldest child and middle school graduate, who now attends public high school, feels like she was well prepared academically and personally by teachers who challenged her to think critically and by expectations to be kind and respectful. There is obviously no perfect school and we are grateful to have found a school that aligns with our values!
