J B J Truck Service

J B J Truck Service

(1 review)

JBJ Truck Service may have very competent mechanics, but I was unable to find out whether they were…read moreor not because they didn't work on my vehicle for the several weeks they had it at their facility. My GMC 7000 dump truck needed the clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing replaced. I called JBJ, and they said I could bring it in, but they wouldn't be able to get to it until "late next week" (it was a Friday when I called, and brought the truck in). I had to adjust the clutch cable by a few inches to get the clutch to even work. The man I talked to at JBJ was friendly and helpful, suggesting that perhaps all it would need was adjusting of the clutch, but that they'd try to look at it earlier than the end of the week. End of the next week came, and no call from them. Middle of the week after that I called, and he said they guy who works on those type trucks would be in "tomorrow," and would check it out. I said okay. The nest day was thursday, No call on thursday, so I called back on friday. He said the guy who was supposed to look at it thursday didn't come in, but he would be in monday to look at it. I said okay. At this point he also mentioned there were a "lot of problems" with the truck, like some of the lights had broken lens covers. He asked if it was worth fixing the clutch. I asked how much were we talking for the clutch repair, and he said he didn't know, but they guy would know on Monday. (The truck is older--1996-- but has low miles, has been well maintained, and runs great and works great except for the clutch problem. The racks on the bed are rough looking, but certainly everything except the clutch is minor and inexpensive repair work). The next week I was busy, and didn't call them again until the next friday. They said "nope, didn't get a chance to look at it yet. Have a lot of scheduled work that comes in." He also said the guy who works on it "is worried that there are too many other problems with it and it won't be worth fixing." I'd never heard such a silly excuse, but just said okay, once we got a price on the clutch we'd decide if it was worth it or not. I told my business partner I had given up on them, and we might as well get the truck back and take it somewhere else. He said he'd try giving them a call. So he did. I was there and heard the conversation. The guy told him that the guy who was going to look at it would be in monday. My partner said we would wait until monday, then. He asked the business owner if he could give us an estimate of the cost, assuming worst case and we needed to replace all the clutch components. He said no, he couldn't give an estimate, and the guy who would give an estimate would be in on monday too. My partner said, "you can't even give a ball park figure?" The guy said no, but they'd look at it monday and let us know. Monday came and went, no call from JBJ. Tuesday my partner called again, and the guy told him "Someone from your company called here and was rude to one mom my men on friday, so we can't do business with you." We were both astounded, because neither of us had been rude. But we went in to get the truck, and the guy seemed friendly enough, but insisted someone was rude to one of his guys on friday, so there was no way they could do work for us. He also said they never got a chance to look at the truck at all, and again pointed out that the truck had a couple broken lens covers, and he wasn't sure it was "worth fixing." So we went to drive the truck away, and it would't shift. I got under the truck, and the clutch cable was adjusted very slack again, so I had to adjust it tight again so it would shift. Not saying they adjusted it, only that it was adjusted about 3 inches looser on the cable. I also noted that the access cover to see the clutch had been removed, or at least the screws had been removed and reinstalled, as there were fresh scratches around the screw heads, and the grease had been moved. It was obvious the screws had been removed. I'm still at a loss as to why they decided not to work on our vehicle. Just can't understand it. End result is I can't recommend them. We took the truck to another shop.
