The chorizo is out of this world and the cheese prices are great. Prices are much better than Planktown Market.

When having your livestock processed... Be sure to check your invoices they like to over charge and will tell you the updated price sheet that they give you is wrong when you question the charges. Very rude and dishonest. read more

Awesome meat picked up a meat slicer man was really nice. The woman at the cash register was having a grouchy day but I guess she's allowed to. She makes the cookies. I guess I got oatmeal. They were a little stale. The roast was very good. read more

Meat! Glorious, local, organic meat! I'm a member of a local CSA who always stocks up on extras from Newswanger Meats--and I always rack up an extra tab buying it all up. Bacon: I'm sorry, but if you love bacon, you have to try this. It's a completely different and amazing tasting bacon that does not even compare to the store bought, mass-produced stuff. Hell, even if you hate bacon I'd suggest trying it from Newswanger--it will change your life. Brats: I've tried the pork and green onion and also the chicken ones--all winners (or wieners, lol.) Especially the chicken. I didn't know chicken in brat form could be this delicious. And don't even get me started on the snap the awesome casing gives after a good grilling... Chorizo: Over the years I've started to realize that this is probably my least favorite of sausages, but Newswanger still does it right. We made egg and chorizo breakfast burritos with it and I haven't been the same since. I'm also almost certain that a lot of the larger meat cuts we received in our CSA packages were also from here, like a whole chicken, racks of ribs and a pork shoulder. I'm telling you--it's all that's right in the meat-eating world. Plus, you don't feel like a total jerk for eating it because the animals are treated humanly. Success! read more

If you are a fan of smoked meats - this place is not to be missed. This is another out of the way gem in Shiloh, Ohio. Their bacon and breakfast sausage is so delicious. Fresh, hearty (no paper thin bacon here) and not overly fatty - just right. My husband likes trail bologna which I think has to be an Ohio thing because I had never seen it before. There is a version made by another company that I find disgusting - chewy, greasy and bland. I was reluctant to try the trail produced by Newswanger, but I did and it is so much better. Meaty and flavorful rather than greasy and they have a version with cheese. They sell jerky, beef sticks as well as smoked chops, hams, chicken and other non smoked meats. You can buy your beef and pork in bulk (1/4, 1/2 or whole) and I think you can specify what cuts you prefer out of your bulk portion. Our next trip up, I definitely want to take the opportunity to try more of their smoked meats! The smoked chops in particular looked tasty. read more
