He travels all over the country giving these classes and is familiar with the laws in all 50 states, and can speak from a great depth of both knowledge and experience about firearms themselves and all laws pertaining to their use, especially in self defense or defense of another. I myself served 15 years in the Marine Corps before being medically retired, and when I signed up for a state-mandated class on firearm safety and self defense laws, I went in expecting there wouldn't be very much they were going to tell me that I didn't already know. Boy was I wrong. Chris is passionate about the 2nd amendment and our right to bear arms, but he is equally passionate about safety, responsibility, and what the law does and doesn't permit. He went above and beyond, spending more the twice the state-required minimum time covering the laws that we need to know, and boy am I glad he did. I was stunned to learn that some scenarios I had previously believed to be cut and dried open-shut cases of self defense *are not.* Despite the extra time spent, and despite all my years of experience in weapons handling and safety, there was *nothing* discussed in that class that I felt I didn't need to go over, and on the contrary a great deal that I'm very glad to have become informed about. I cannot say enough good things about Chris. The man knows firearms and firearm laws forward and backward, and the decades of experience, training, and education he has are readily apparent when he tells you what you need to know. If you're getting a concealed carry permit, this is the man you want to prepare you for it.

This time was way different. Upon approaching the desk and announcing that I wanted to use the range. I was asked if I had a black card. Not sure what that is for. They checked if I was in their database because I said that I had been there before. I am not sure how I feel about being in anyone's database. Signing a range safety brief and waiver for a range is a normal thing but the video they have you watch is tailored to newer shooters. They list only three safety rules when everyone knows there are four standard range safety rules (four for the last 30 years of using ranges). The video repeats itself many times, like I said it is for newbies. Then it came time to fill out the waiver. The standard range language was in there. Then a section on COVID as if that is any concern at the range. I suppose a waiver like this should be used at every restaurant as well. Filling out my information at the end of the waiver I stopped to ask if they needed my email. I was told it was to send the waiver to me. I asked why they needed my address. All these data points are marked as required. I stopped and left because no gun range needs to collect my personal information and add it to a database. Buyer beware this place has a new policy of collecting your information and admittedly entering that information in a database. Their explanation is that lawyers make them do it. I say that you should go anywhere else that does not require your address and put you in a database. In an age of illegal immigrants that nobody has addresses for this is a warning sign.

It was the most relaxing atmosphere to shoot, no pressure, no one was being judgmental or pretentious. I just moved to NC, and am so happy to have this range near my house. Not only were we trained in the CC, but Ben's instruction on shooting fundamentals made me more comfortable with the pistol and will improve my speed and accuracy. She spent the whole time in the water keeping watch, but also gave my daughter the chance to catch waves on her own as soon as she was able. She loved it and we are looking forward to going back next summer, maybe even for a camp!
