the program at Newport Academy really worked for me. having peers and staff around me constantly was a very important "exposure" in a way. i had to come out of my shell. i felt supported there, and loved the meals. the program was not perfect, though, staff members had a hard time with following through on certain tasks. it took me 5 hours to get a bandaid once. they are short-staffed, so individual attention was sometimes hard to receive. the program really made you advocate for yourself, if you did not ask for something nobody would really think to give it to you. i had none of my belongings for my first couple of days, until i asked, turns out they had forgotten to inventory them. saying all that, i still would recommend this program. i made meaningful connections with all of the staff, and connected even more deeply with my peers. my treatment was a major success, i am thriving like i have never thrived before. without this program, i would not be thriving, and would probably not be here at all. if you are struggling, strongly consider Newport academy. Staying there has permanently changed my life for the better. read more

With Michigan not having the Residential level of care for teens, having our neighbor Minnesota with this great resource is a gift! I had toured this facility and felt the "Harry Potter Hogwarts Academy" vibe and knew it was a special place that teenagers would love. The staff was passionate about teen mental health and the environment was amazing; the Rock Wall for climbing was impressive, the individual pods for small groups was warm, roomy and comfortable, well designed and fun colors. The food was amazing and the chef quite impressive with her options for the milieu. The school setting was better than the HS I attended! Large classrooms but limited in the number of students per classroom to allow focused individual attention was impressive. All this is great, but then when I put them to the test with a very challenging teen girl, they demonstrated how their "show and tell" was far more. They walk the talk and this family is doing well as they work through their multiple challenges. Newport restores hope where hope was lost. read more

I'm giving Newport a 5 star. It really deserves it. When I went into Newport I was scared, hopeless and it felt like the world was over. I wasn't in the right mental state and I felt so alone and felt as though my mom was sending me away just because she was mad at me. The staff at Newport were very welcoming and the place was very clean. All of the staff were kind and friendly and they were always there for you when you needed to chat. This place saved my family from falling apart and healed my family along with healing me. They focused on both my family's needs and my own needs. The only thing that I struggled with while I was there was handling my peers when they were having episodes. There was a lot of drama but the staff handled it well. Newport helped me learn to love myself and helped me realize things I never would have thought of on my own. I went in scared and hopeless and ready to end my life when I got the chance, and came out loving myself and knowing that I am very loved. read more

Newport has helped me through a lot of things, my bad mental heath and my family issues, but my favorite thing I learned from being at Newport is that it's okay to get help, it's okay to struggle, it's okay to be at what you think can't get any better. Because trust me for a while I thought that, but after seeing how each and every one of the staff cared about not only me but everyone around me and gave me the support I thought I wasn't able to receive or even deserved. Newport didn't just help me with my ups and downs although that was a big part, Newport introduced me to people i love dearly with all my heart and made me realize that things do happen for a reason and you just have to keep pushing because there is ALWAYS going to be light in dark places and all you have to do is search for it, if you are ever considering coming to Newport I would very highly recommend, it's not only a safe space but after a while it really feels like a home. read more

Newport provided me with a great experience. I put myself into newport, and got placed in cottage 5 in the adolescent division. I got a lot of help from counselors, and had an amazing RS and Therapist. the four combined taught me new skills, used new forms of therapy, and helped change my mindset. a big part of newport though is putting in the effort. I saw other clients who were forced in and they weren't open to receiving help, which tells me the people who will actually get more help out of this program are the ones willing to be here. I personally loved my time at Newport, but of course reviews will vary per person. read more

Admissions were good very informative The communication is very concerning to me Most of the time you can only email. They told me that my teen (girl) would, not in the boy area Guess what she got over there a few times . They should only have a girls spot on one property Boys sports for boys on different property. They need to separate the girls into better cottages My daughter was subjected to things she has never been around, I feel she was traumatized more the she was before she came New Port Academy is not staffed One staff for 6 teens. The food was great. read more

i went to newport residential for three months and I have to say it's saved my life. I would not be the person I am today if I hadn't gone. when I got there it took me a while to adjust and settle in to the structure and way I was going to be living for the next 30-90 days. but once I was settled, I started to grow and learn new ways to cope that I have now, and I will have for the rest of my life. I look at the person I was when I went in there and look at the person that I am now and I celebrate the growth and recovery I've made. read more

Newport was literally a life changing experience for me. Had I not gone into Newport I would not be here today. I can't thank the wonderful team of individuals enough for all they have done for me and my family. I felt safe, I absolutely received the care that was needed, and most importantly I learned the skills to improve my mental health and help others around me. read more

They were very good. They helped me when I was at my lowest. They worked together to distract me. I awoled a lot, people probably say I was supposed to go there but I did. They truly helped me. The therapists are also really good, and well trained. I really can't call out just one person, because they all came together to support me. read more
