We literally were without a space and Mark and Christy not only stepped up with the venue at a phenomenal price, but then handled the catering. Everyone was raving about the food. While getting married is a once in a lifetime experience, I will DEFINITELY be looking for opportunities to utilize this space again for parties, events and other things.

I also understand that it likely shortens the guest visit time since people are more apt to be tempted by an additional cocktail... which allows for more turnover in this smallish space. You arrive to this area after a tour. Alternately, you can request to be put on a list to visit this area from the gift shop. The list doesn't involve texting you when you're up, so you need to be hanging around or risk losing your place. The gift shop bar was pouring samples of one spirit during our wait (not of your choosing, more of a "this is what we're pouring today" situation) which was appreciated. The gift shop itself is really lovely, so that can help burn a little time as well. Last call was at 4pm if I remember correctly, which is fairly standard for distilleries in KY.

For dessert, we had two types of delectable, tasty treats: succulent chocolate cake and bourbon bread pudding. I was really surprised by the flavor of the food. Alexis, on the other hand, was amazing to work with! He's blessed to have her on his team. Although, the wedding was to take place in the outside garden, the weather didn't cooperate and it was moved to inside. Alexis did an amazing job with the turn around between the wedding and the reception. The parking lot isn't very large, but honestly for an average size wedding it's adequate. The highlight of this venue is the beautiful wood floors and the windows that seem to stretch from the floor to the ceiling. The balcony that surrounds the main hall is a wonderful setup. The owner is very particular on what vendors participate in any wedding at the Calumet Club, so be sure to have all your vendors checked out and approved by the owner before booking them.

The wait staff is always very friendly and accommodating takes very good care of our group. I love the buffet set up being up few stairs in the back and set up in a circle so that people can come at it from both sides and it makes things go quicker. The food is always great but I'm not sure if they use an outside caterer or what but we have always enjoyed what's been served. The staff also seem to keep things with these events running very smoothly and on time which is helpful because it keeps there from being a lot of dead air so to speak. The bar staff which I think at least for us have been supplied by The Grand are also great and keep the lines moving quickly. Some people might think this venue is a little dated looking but I think it has character. Plus I love the high ceilings and the option for using the balcony if needed. The bathrooms are always clean and they are beautiful to boot. I would love to attend a wedding here sometime and I will actually keep it in mind when my girls eventually get married assuming it's still around which I sincerely hope that it is!

Open to the public [New Albany IN]…read more Along East Main and Market Streets contain a concentration of historic residential properties... this is New Albany's Mansion Row and the William S Culbertson Mansion is one of them offering a 60-minute guided tour. We came at the last hour... just in time for a tour inside the mansion. Admission is $13 (but we qualified for the Seniors rate -- yay! best part in turning 60 LoL!) Our young tour guide was very knowledgeable and well-informed about the property. We started in the foyer and worked our way up to three stories, ending in the kitchen. The mansion is a French Second Empire-style structure and at the time of his death in 1892, Culbertson was one of Indiana's wealthiest men. Rooms that were shown to us included the FIRST FLOOR: Informal Parlor, Formal Dining Room, the Formal Parlor (which can be rented as an event space), Library. SECOND FLOOR: Morning Room, Daughter Blanche's Room, Daughter Anna's and her husband's Room, Dressing Room, Mrs Culbertson's Room, Mr Culbertson's Room (still under construction) and, yes, they each have separate rooms. THIRD FLOOR: Son, Samuel's Room, and across the hallway is another room under construction but has some exhibits and history material on display. From here we headed downstairs to the servant's quarters and finally the kitchen on the ground floor. Lastly... during Fall and Halloween season the Carriage House is transformed into a haunted house. They call this event the "House of Anguish."
