I'm sure it has not changed very much over the years, but it's kept extremely well and with a lot of love, I'm sure. Our bedroom, the blue room, was beautiful, very comfortable and had two great views. The study and dining room both had welcoming fires in the evening. The dining room even had one in the morning while you enjoyed breakfast. The breakfasts were probably the best I've had in an Irish guesthouse. A huge array of tasty fruit, including fresh raspberries from the garden. Homemade bread, freshly squeezed orange juice and excellent coffee. A full Irish if you wanted it or a smaller selection of items from said full Irish. Bobbie ensured you were catered for. We opted for the five course meal in the evening on the day we arrived. It was wonderful. We shared the dining table with another couple, who were also celebrating their wedding anniversary. They were regulars of Lorum, that's how much they love Lorum Old Rectory. A testament to Bobbie and the service she provides. I look forward to returning to Lorum. And recommending it to anyone who will listen to me.

When we arrived on our first day the front desk staff were able to check us in early and even upgraded our room to a castle view which was an exciting surprise! Our room was comfortable although one thing to keep in mind is that the hotel does not have air conditioning in the hallways and rooms, although it was cool enough at night to keep our windows open and the rooms do come with a small fan. The complimentary breakfast in the morning was very nice and the pastries (especially the chocolate croissants!) were delicious and a wonderful way to start our days before exploring Kilkenny. The hotel does have complimentary parking, which was extremely useful. We parked our car at the hotel when we first arrived and didn't end up moving it until checking out two days later since everything was so walkable in the city. We stayed in an executive suite in Hunter's yard. The exterior looks like a luxury stable but you would never know from the inside. Our room was so luxurious. The attention to detail was incredible! We had a welcome note, champagne, and a piece of cake waiting on the table for us. We had complimentary still and sparkling water and chocolates too. In the morning, we checked out the health club which has an gorgeous indoor pool, spa, sauna, steam room, and gym. Afterwards, we enjoyed breakfast at the Hound. Our hotel package included breakfast which was incredible. The Hound has amazing views of the driving range. For breakfast there is a buffer and the option to order something off the menu too. We decided to go with the buffet options but most individuals did both. After breakfast we walked throughout the estate. The hotel offers horseback riding, clay shooting, fishing, and more. The staff were excellent. The food was amazing. Everything really appeared to go like clock work. After dinner everyone went outside to chat and mingle the night away. The heatwave we were experiencing made it feel like the Mediterranean. After the reception room closed, we made our way to the hotel bar. Greeted by a very affable bartender, he was able to give a history of a few of the pelts and stuffed animals displayed in the room. He was a good laugh too. It's only fabulous, Castle Durrow. A great day and night was had by all.

I needed help calling the Garda office in Cahir to obtain a copy of a report we'd made about a stolen license plate, and she kindly called them for me. If I am lucky enough to return to Kilkenny I would certainly stay there again.

We found the property on Airbnb…read more It's a 300 year old thatched roof cottage. 2 bedrooms (a master with a queen bed and another room with twin beds) one bath, a family room, and a kitchen. It just looks and feels what you think of when you think Irish Cottage. The cool thing is you can stay there for 2 nights and you don't have to rent the whole week...although you definitely should. And will kick yourself like I am for not spending more time there. In 20 minutes you can walk the parimeter of the whole town. The bonus is there is access to Kells Priory a mere 5 minutes walk from the house. It is sooooo cool to go around there and look at the ruins. There are two abandoned mills to look at too. There is a cool pub that makes pizza, called Shirley's. Kells is close to the medieval town of Kilkenny. You could drive to Wicklow, Waterford, Wexford, whatever from there. Closeby is Stoneyford which has a cheese shop and good take away Indian food. The owners of the property are right next door and are suuuper cool.

Once done - Mark turned his full attention to us. We have a 18 and 17 year old daughters and yet they loved this place too. Our girls were able to bottle feed the baby lamb (Lambo), interact with their two dogs, their guinea pigs, goat, hogs, and sheep. The food (thank you Ann-Marie) was scrumptious and their recommendation of where to go for dinner and a drink were spot on for what we wanted. They suggested we go visit a castle ruin (literally within 1 mile) and we had the whole castle ruin site to ourselves. They then found out we wanted to go to a local hurling game and they turned us on to where to buy tickets to the "sold out" game - yes we got in! The grounds are so peaceful at night as the Kings river is at the edge of the property and there are benches to just enjoy the tranquility. The peacefullness, the warmness, and the hospitality you feel here is incredible. We only stayed 2 nights but could have easily done three - HIGHLY recommend this place ... next time we come to Ireland this will be the one B&B we will make sure we come to again ~ Kayleen, Denny, Riana & Delaney

My family has two girls ages 12 & 10 yrs. old and this farm with the horses, pig, goats, chickens and beautiful lawn was a big highlight of the entire trip. The owners couldn't be nicer. The rooms were darling and very clean. The breakfast was made to order by Ann Marie and SHE IS A GOOD COOK!! My family visited last August and we were soooo glad we did. Thankyou Mark and Ann Marie for your warm hospitality and sharing your little piece of heaven with us!!
