First and for out-of-towners, location. Walker's is simple to find with a friendly location just west of Corey Road. There is a Corey Road exit of I-475 which made discovering Walker's easy. Parking, too, was more than ample given the business has two parking lots to the east and west. To the north is the Sylvania Arboretum making the view from the front of Walker's peaceful and beautiful, even while gazing over a busy street. Guest services. By this I mean greetings and salutations given by the Walker staff. I was made comfortable entering the large and beautiful building. Two Walker staffers were there to greet me in friendly fashion, and they attire was spot-on professional. They suggested the party name, kindly point the direction of the rooms AND suggested I sign the Guest Register. Very nice. The room and viewing areas were well appointed, not entirely understated by a calming color scheme, well managed accoutrements and nice facilities for men & women. There were HDTV for family picture flow. The placements of flowers were well arranged. Leaving I was thanked by Walker staff for attending. In my mind I don't imagine there being a smoother operation in Toledo.

We entered and no one was around. I said "You-Hoo?" and no one answered. My niece opened the first available door and saw a woman in a black skirt suit with her blouse untucked and in bare feet standing over an open casket. This woman came out, still disheveled and in bare feet and greeted us. (We should have left then but they had already picked up the body of my sister. She led us to an elevator, which had a huge bag of garbage on it, and took us to a downstairs meeting room. Among other things, she was not prepared for our appointment. She kept leaving to get things she needed. I wanted just a plain cremation because we were planning to inter her elsewhere in the summer. Many times, she said that "they" could help with that. She seemed to be interested in making more business. The funeral home wrote what I believe was an AI generated obituary after I had given her a detailed statement that I wrote. The saleswoman told us that the home would call when they received the death certificates. They did not. I called and had to pick them up at another inconvenient location. Finally, they did deliver my sister's remains, re-emphasizing that they would like to help us with her internment. Deli8vering my sister was the wrong time to ask for more business. I had to write the real obituaries and submitted them to the Monroe News and the Toledo Blade. A couple of weeks later they delivered an "advertising mug" and a corrected obituary. This certainly was too late, and the mug was in poor taste. Just because Merkle Funeral Home has several locations does not mean they are good at what they do. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE!

I reside in Texas, but spent the last three years traveling to Toledo to provide 24/7 care for my grandmother for approximately two weeks each month until her passing. I was assigned Funeral Director Michael K. Day Jr. Unfortunately, my experience was marked by repeated errors, poor communication, and a lack of organization during one of the most difficult times for my family. 1. Failure to Reserve the Repast Venue - Mr. Day included charges on the funeral invoice for the Scott Park Banquet Hall and repeatedly assured me that the venue had been reserved on the calendar. However, during our invoice finalization meeting on June 4, 2026, Mr. Day informed me that he had forgotten to save the reservation on the calendar, resulting in the banquet hall being reserved by another family. Mr. Day suggested that the repast be held before the funeral service--an arrangement that was neither practical nor appropriate given the circumstances. He offered to send me a list of alternative banquets. I never received the list or any additional assistance in locating a replacement venue. This preventable oversight forced my family to scramble for alternative arrangements at the last minute. 2. Cemetery Scheduling Error - On June 3, I received a call from Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery, which offered condolences and advised that they had just spoken with Mr. Day regarding dispatching a crew to dig my grandmother's grave on June 6. This was incorrect because the funeral services were scheduled for the following Saturday. I informed her of the error and immediately contacted Mr. Day, who acknowledged his mistake and stated he still had the old date down, although I had already sent an email. 3. Casket Pricing and Product Information Errors - Mr. Day provided me with a casket selection sheet containing outdated pricing information. Near the end of the process, I discovered that the selected casket cost approximately $310 more than the quoted and given to me. 4. Failure to Follow Hair Instructions - I specifically instructed, both verbally and in writing, that a portion of my grandmother's hair be cut and preserved before her hair was dyed so that I could gift my family members with keepsake boxes. This instruction was not followed. My brother physically visited the funeral home on June 8th, in which Danielle cut her hair, but stated that she did not receive my email and that my grandmother's hair had already been dyed in preparation for her funeral. This is no longer a keepsake that my family will be able to have. 5. Failure to Attend Scheduled Meetings and Lack of Communication - Throughout the process, it was extremely difficult to reach Mr. Day. Numerous phone calls went unanswered, and staff frequently advised me that he was not in the office. Most notably, I scheduled an in-person meeting with him, arriving at 10:30-11:00 a.m. on June 8. I arrived at 10:55 a.m. and was instructed to wait. After waiting for close to an hour, the receptionist paged him multiple times, and the senior attendant even searched the parking lot for his vehicle. Mr. Day was nowhere to be found. 6. This situation caused significant frustration and resulted in an unpleasant interaction on my part. However, after this incident, I met with Mr. Carson and Tara, who worked diligently to finalize arrangements only two days before my grandmother's services. At that point, I specifically requested that Michael K. Day Jr. no longer be involved in handling my grandmother's funeral services or be the Funeral Director at my grandmother's services. This was reinforced when I spoke with his mother, Mrs. Alison Day. I do not take writing negative reviews lightly. In fact, I routinely leave positive reviews when I receive exceptional service from start to finish because I believe good businesses deserve to be recognized. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here.

This attention to detail made us feel our Momma was in the best hands.  Tara, our Digital Designer, your patience and creativity in all things visual and the vault design, which depicted her life in pictures and video, were final additions that will remain with her through resurrection, adding a personal and visual touch of her life's journey. Jimmy, on family transportation, your compassion and gentleness were what we also needed to remind us that everything would be okay and that the House of Day was there to carry us through. Your emotional support was as important as the physical transportation you provided. Lastly, Roger, the Funeral Director, we appreciate you holding our hands every step of the way.
