Dr. Nielsen is an excellent neurologist, and my concerns are not about her care. My experience with the administrative side of this office, however, has involved repeated and severe failures that directly affected and delated my medically necessary treatment. Over time I encountered ongoing problems with scheduling, referrals, and follow-ups. Calls and messages were not returned, even by management. I was hung up on. I was told referrals or authorizations were being handled when they were not, which resulted in a necessary appointment being scheduled late, BY WEEKS. I made multiple attempts to resolve these issues, including reaching out to the manager, Paulette, and to Michelle Pace, but did not receive responses. After repeated attempts to work through these problems, I ultimately transferred my care elsewhere. I am relaying my sister's most recent experience in the Arvada New West Physician/Optum office. In my opinion, it looks and feels like an inner city clinic, worn and tired. We were going to the family physician practice in Golden, a very nice office, but they forced all the doctors out to other facilities in order to use that location for a corporate office. The following is my opinion based on my family's experience: I took my sister to an appointment with P.A. Lisa Kilpatrick. Her regular doctor of 37 years was unavailable, and she needed an Rx renewed for her ADHD medication. When she came out, she was having an anxiety/PTSD attack over how she had been treated. Ms. Kilpatrick treated her like she was a drug seeker/dealer. She was asked if she was 'doc shopping.' Then asked if she was REALLY sure she needed her ADHD medication, when she was over 70 years old! She apparently doesn't understand ADHD makes it hard to focus, and the medication helps. She asked her what she paid for her Rx's, then said 'are you reselling them?' She handed my sister a 2 page waiver off of a pile in her top drawer agreeing not to resell Rx's. It had to be signed in order to get her prescription. P. A. Kilpatrick then gave her a lecture on how to use a med she had taken for years, as prescribed by her regular doctor. My sister said she had never been treated like a criminal before and was mortified. Our family and kids have gone to the same physician for 37 years. How is that "doc shopping?" She wasn't asking for opioids. Hadn't filled the prescription for 10 months. How is that getting Rx in enough quantity to resell? I saw other reviews about this P.A. that were similar. It's unfortunate she hasn't been counselled about treating her patients with respect. read more

I thought the PA i saw was good. The front desk was fine, they answer calls great. My only issue is they sent me out without a shot they said they were giving me, without referral papers i needed and they did not call me regarding results i was waiting for. This place has been really good to me. They have taken care of me and hard times. They are positive. They care about your treatment plan. The only negative I had was in the lobby where I ran into Dr. Enrie and he gave me dirt, looks and looked at me like I was somebody less than he was, but guess what?I have more education than he does. I hate to post this review, but doing so seems to be my only remaining avenue to elicit a response from my doctor in the New West office in Lakewood. Dr. Nielsen & her office are quite simply unresponsive to requests from my pharmacy & myself, both by phone & in writing, to renew my regular prescription. I am at a loss to explain why. I have previously had similar issues with this doctor & her office. I have had very positive experiences with other New West offices for over a decade now. New West Physicians - Family Practice Near Me - Golden, Colorado

This office is terrible! First, they ignored my HIPPA and sent another physician 6 years of my health information instead of just the recent lab results that I approved to be sent. I was billed by the receiving physician and extra $100 to review all they sent. Second, I went for an appointment and one of Doctors was hiding behind a post as I spoke to the receptionist. The receptionist was explaining a form to me. It was a normal interaction. The Doctor jumped out from behind the post and said, "You need to be nicer to my employee!" This female doctor lied to the office manager, who engaged me in 3 separate phone calls when I was so insulted I finally hung up on her. Just stay away from this office, it was a horrible experience. read more

The providers are fine but the front desk and policies are uniformly irritating. The Johnson road one is better than the one north of highway 6. All the same, even it turns you away. I wouldn't recommend using New West Physicians Denver West. They quoted me $125 for my office visit. I recieved an antibiotic prescription to treat a infected dog bite. I tried to recieve a refill of the antibiotics but was required to make a second visit to attain a second prescription to refill the antibiotics. At that time I should have been paid in full with my 2 payments of $125. But to my surprise they added an additional $104 to my bill without any explanation of what the additional charges were for. Each time the nurse looked at the infected wound and wrote a prescription. The nurse never touched it, washed it, or even handed me a bandage. After receiving the bill with the additional charges, I inquired as to why I was being charged more than I had been quoted. I never recieved an answer. Just another bill with no explanation of the extra charges. They seem to lack any ability to provide customer service. They also made me wait 5 days without antibiotics before they could schedule me in for my second appointment. You should have seen how much the infection came back while I was without any antibiotics. They wouldn't even admit that making me wait 5 days allowed the infection come back. You gotta wonder what school the nurses I saw graduated from if they cant see that keeping me from an antibiotic refill could cause the infection to come back with such vengeance. I see a specialist every 6 weeks for a specific condition, so I am always getting a check up, year round. Was forced to get an appointment with "primary care" in order to keep certain medication refills. I called in before the holidays to get an appointment after the holidays were over. I showed up on time today, but the office had moved as of YESTERDAY and no one notified me. Not even sure which location I was supposed to go to since the appointment was with a Dr I don't normally see, but scheduled with her because she had available time. Communication here has always sucked and environment isn't very welcoming so I am leaving this practice and taking chances in finding another provider. They can't be worse than these guys. read more

Have been going to New West Physicians for several years and always felt I received good care. My doctor retired so I was transferred to Dr. Rachel Hills as my PCP (their doing). I had no reason to not accept the transfer. If I had only known what I was in for! My first contact with this office (Table Mountain Family Medicine) and this doctor was absolutely horrible. The phlebotomist was totally incompetent and seemed more worried about getting out of work on time than taking my blood. She jabbed me three times in three different places and could not get enough blood for all the required tests and per the medical assistant I was not dehydrated. WHILE SHE WAS TRYING TO DRAW BLOOD, a "doctor-in-training" (who I did agree to let assist Dr. Hills) starts reaching around her to feel lymph nodes in my neck and checking my feet. They were climbing over each other! Dr. Hills comes in and informs me my blood pressure looked great. My comment, "That is really interesting, no one has taken my blood pressure!" She never realized I was not weighed either! This was an annual physical!! She told me one blood test was not necessary so and they had enough blood for the necessary tests, but in my visit summary she wrote, "Difficult draw. Patient advised to return for collection." which was not true! I said I would stay and they could have some else do the draw but I was not coming back. (The Medical Assistant told me there was someone else available to do a blood draw.) I think Dr. Hills wrote what she did to cover her butt for saying the third test was not necessary. Throughout the entire visit with Dr. Hills she would laugh, it was a nervous laugh but very inappropriate! I came home and told my husband I was glad there was nothing seriously wrong with me because I would not go back to them to have a sliver removed! Steer clear of this place! Dr. Hills did call me the following morning to apologize for how my visit to their office went. She knew it was bad! I did comment on her nervous laugh and suggested she should work on stopping it because it totally detracts from a patient's confidence in her. And I told her I was never coming back. read more

This comment is regarding NWP as a corporate entity, and is not related to any specific physician. Be very wary. They engage in fraudulent billing, no one takes responsibility for medical errors made by their mid-level practitioners (NPs, PAs), the billing department is rude at best, and their customer service theory appears to be, "don't call anyone back, and you win". That applies to every facet from the medical office, to the office manager, to their patient advocates, to their billing department, and most especially their referrals team. Absolutely HORRIBLE business practices on a whole. The NWP physician I had chosen as my PCP, and loved, is OUTSTANDING, but I cannot and will not continue to see her because of my entire experience with NWP outside of her direct care. read more

Never rcvd call on blood work that was not normal! Borderline kidney failure on record. All cholesterol levels out of range. Called twice for copy of blood work. Finally after 6 weeks get it. Wife calls to discuss my record since she is more knowledgeable on medical. Left messages to have Dr call to discuss. Message rcvd"he doesn't have time to discuss anything to speak to MA". Wife on record in office to speak. MA states has to be in writing every year. Pt cannot call to authorize. This is how New West Phys work. Come in pay for another office visit, extended of course, then you will get your care. This is society? Or how this company works? The staff is also rude and uncaring. I have been going to the Golden location for almost a decade. Over the past year or so conditions have progressively gotten worse. It became so bad that my Primary Care PA-C left for another position. Since then it has become abysmal. Even the staff agreed with me. I will not be returning to this provider. I saw Dr. Julia Atkins in Golden more than 6 years until she left the practice. I was basically assigned another doctor but she only lasted a year. Dr. Atkins was truly the best and most relatable doctor I have ever encountered in my adult life, now 75 years old, having typical issues related to aging. Dr. Atkins's departure was a great loss to that practice; I wish her well. My next visit is with a Nurse Practitioner so I will see how that goes. Optum does seem to have made some drastic and negative changes which affected their professional staff and patients. I never had a problem with billing, costs, or treatment by office staff or lab staff. However, I am only in the office about twice a year, usually RX check and lab, annual exam, nothing really major. I did notice a few specialists I encountered briefly have left the New West Group. read more

It's an HMO so one can only see a specialist if referred by a NWP primary care physician. Also they will drop you like spoiled cheese if you enroll in medicare. read more

If you want the entire waiting area to hear your business this is the place for you! They discuss money, details during your visits and personal info right out loud. The waiting area echoes so you can hear in any direction. You can also hear very clearly when the fromt staff is discussing things with each other. Also if you talk about more than one thing at your visit they charge per ailment. Billing coding is never right either. Our insurance covers well visit at 100%, we always get a bill and yes they are in network. Every time we visit, there is a follow up issue with billing. So if you like headaches of getting your bill billed correctly and don't mind everyone knowing your business, this is the place for you!!! read more

I see Dr. Forward and he hasn't kept up to date with current specialists in the area and has no idea where to refer specialty cases. It was faster to find a new PHP and sign up, get an appointment, and get a referral than it was to try and stay with New West. Nearly everyone there was rude and borderline incompetent. I've never had worse medical care in my life. For the sake of the community you're supposed to serve, I hope you guys shut down and have all your front desk staff leave the medical field. If you like your kids, your family, or even just yourself, don't trust New West. Just call them for yourselves and see how rude and incompetent their staff are. I have been going to New West for over 15 years, and over the last few years, they have gone down. Their best Doctors and PA's are leaving. I came in to see my PA she of course is leaving so I couldn't get in. I went ahead and went with another for my physical. When checking in they stated this is your physical you have no copay. I verified this...as every time I go in I end up getting charged a copay. Well low and behold I just got a bill for my copay. I called their Patient Advocacy line and was told if the Dr asks a question that is outside of what is covered then they can charge extra. So this PA spent my entire appointment looking at her laptop asking me questions about my prescriptions, did not examine me in any way shape, or form other than to listen to my heart, and then charged my insurance $409 for physical and another $419 for the "extra". On December 5, 2022, my mother went into hospice care, and as I sat at her bedside until she passed on December 12, 2022, I developed back pain that began to manifest as sciatica. On January 10, 2023, when it became so severe that I could not put my foot on the ground without severe shooting pain and could not stand, I reached out to my primary care, Erica Liesmaki. I asked for her PA, Rebecca, who has been wonderful to work with since I selected them in June 2019. She also knew of my mother's passing when she called me about the February 16th appointment. Since I had an annual appointment set for February 16, 2023, which was the earliest I could get the appointment when I called on December 8, 2022, I was sure that help from my primary care would be available by phone. I called at 11:30 AM on January 10th and spoke to nurse Krista Mckee. She said that the doctor would call something into my pharmacy, which she confirmed, and to give them a couple of hours. I called Walgreens at 1:29 and 2:07 PM and they said they had not received a prescription from the doctor's office. I called the Liesmaki office back to follow up and request that they phone it into Walgreens again because I assumed Walgreens was at fault. I was put on hold and then told that no one had done anything about it as I had to come for an appointment. I again explained what had happened, that I could not walk, therefore I could not drive, and that I had an appointment on the books for February. I kept getting transferred around and nothing was done. I called back and they were very rude and said they would not help me, as if I was not one of her patients. As if they knew nothing about the passing of my mother. I am a perfectly healthy patient that had just been through major trauma and needed assistance with sciatic pain. Krista Mckee had given me the Dispatch Health spiel, so I reverted to calling that number as I was in excruciating pain. When I called Dispatch Health it went to a nonworking number in NJ. She gave me a number in NJ. I called Liesmaki's office back begging for help and they just became ruder and ruder and refused to help me. They wouldn't make any money off phoning in a prescription. I looked up my insurance provider online at 5:00 PM. They gave me a video doctor to call. I called and within 15 minutes the doctor agreed with what I had diagnosed. Even though he had never met me, unlike Liesmaki, he phoned in a Prednisone prescription for 18 tablets. It is now the next day and I called back Liesmaki's office to find out why they had not helped me. They proceed to be very rude AGAIN and reaffirm that they would make no money. Kind of interesting how a video doctor helped me immediately and now into day 2 of taking the Prednisone I have almost no pain and can walk. So, as I felt in 2019, there is no reason to have a primary care doctor because they do not care about patients as PROVEN BY ERICA LIESMAKI! When I called today, she finally called me back with a voicemail and told me she would not help me if I couldn't make another appointment despite not being able to walk or drive. She had no idea that I had received help online from a doctor that never met me and took care of me without any qualms. I called back today to have them send me all of my files, as I will never step foot in that office again. I will also do my best on a daily basis to let people know what kind of doctors you are. read more

Similar to other reviewers, my actual experience with the physician was just fine and I feel like I received good care. HOWEVER, they sent my account to a credit collections agency even though I had paid all my balances in full, due to some issue with their billing system (which they never once mentioned to me or gave me any warnings about, but have apparently been going on for MONTHS). I had to call the office to get the payment resolved and do a bunch of legwork myself to find the payment details just for them to be able to find that I did in fact pay on time. After getting that sorted out finally, I *specifically* asked if I needed to do anything to follow up with the credit collection agency, to which I was told "No, they'll handle it from there". Well, it's been about two weeks and I wasn't taking any chances so I called the credit collection agency myself and sure enough, they hadn't heard anything from New West. What a goddamn nightmare. This could have serious impacts on my credit score and finances. Stay away and save yourself a serious headache. read more

Surprise billing! Apparently Mesa View doesn't make enough money with one office visit so they charged me for two. I received a bill for an office visit for what was supposed to be my FREE Annual Wellness visit. When I called for an explanation, they said that I discussed issues with my doctor that was outside of what is allowable in an Annual Wellness visit. The doctor changed my blood pressure medicine and I mentioned soreness in my arm. I'm not sure why that is outside of the scope of a wellness visit??? They also said that I signed a form authorizing them to charge for the additional visit. When I asked for a copy of that form, they didn't have it (because I didn't sign it) but assured me that my doctor told me about during the visit ( she did not). The doctor who I saw for over 10 years has retired and I saw a new doctor for the first time (and my last). Buyer beware or in this case, patient beware. Staff was very rude, including the office manager. This seems to be a recurring theme, as I am seeing with other reviews. I will be taking my business outside of New West from now on. read more

I called because my primary doctor switched to this practice. I just called to see if he was accepting new patients, after having called about 6 months ago and being told to check back in a few months. I have a very tricky health issue and Dr. Simms was great managing my care. The receptionist who answered was brusk, to be kind. I couldn't even finish a sentence before she rudely screeched at me that Dr. Simms is not accepting new patients and she didn't know when he would be. How anyone like this gets and holds this position is beyond me, because there are many qualified applicants who would handle this job professionally and with a pleasant attitude. That the medical staff doesn't have a problem with her is a mystery. BTW, the website "welcomes new patients." HA! read more

You ask for labs to be sent to the place you like to go and they send them to the wrong place. Now they won't see me until I get a bill resolved in which I never received a bill. This place is terrible. I used to go there but my physician left it. I went back and the new doctor got outraged my insurance wouldn't authorize the ridiculously priced sinus medication he prescribed. I agreed with the pharmacist and insurance company. I told him I didn't need medication just a different doctor. Never went back. Had two of my adult kids go there. One of them is in the medical field. She strongly disliked the PA she saw. My other kid went and it was a complete waste of time. I would never ever go back there. Go elsewhere. There are some decent medical offices in the Golden area and this is not one of them. read more

I waited less than 10 minutes to be taken downstairs for my vitals and the PA was in to see me. I appreciated the promptness and not having to wait to be seen. read more
