I have been a patient of Dr Ola's for about a year. Before we worked together, I had been sick for…read moreabout six years, and had seen almost every specialist at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. None of the Mayo doctors really had any answers to explain the root cause of my symptoms. I had been SO healthy my entire life until 2017 when I developed significant pulmonary issues - multiple pneumonias and lung scarring. As things progressed, I began having debilitating headaches and flares that included extreme vomiting and diahrrea (and trips to urgent care for IV fluids and Zofran). On really bad days (a couple of times per week), my pain was so severe I would spend hours sitting in the shower as it was the only thing that brought any relief. Hives would come and go, I had weird brusing, and I had lost half my hair. My body didn't seem to be absorbing nutrition, I was anemic and started ferritin infusions. Labs showed elevated white blood cell counts that required monthly biologic shots. My body was broken. I was hesitant to make plans with friends or family, and could not be the kind of mother I wanted to be. I had to budget my energy - the fatigue was crushing at times. I had tried everything. Paleo/organic very clean and limited diet, professional remediation in our home after a leak, ripped bathrooms to studs just to be safe, replaced AC systems (inside and out), UV light added to AC system, filtered shower and drinking water, threw out all chemicals/ cosmetics/ fragrances. Some things helped a little but my body was still not healing. Dr. Ola was my last resort. She listened to my long story and we began with running tests, labwork, and GI mapping. She was able to pretty quickly determine that I had two HLA mutations that prevented me from detoxing. I also had parasites. We started first with parasite treatment. Parasite treatement is pretty miserable, but you just have to get through it. Dr. Ola helped alot through this process, adding things to help my body through the parasite die-off, and slowing down when my body just needed to rest. This took 6-7 months, but my case was pretty severe and likely the cause of the elevated white blood cell counts. I am now working through detoxing (with a binder) some of the things my body is unable to clear naturally because of genetic mutations. We will retest in a couple of months and she will continue to adjust medications and supplements. I am a different person now and continue to improve. My hair has come back. I have not had a flare episode (vomiting, headache, pain) in 6 months or more. I recently took a weekend trip that included one very late night, and was able to come home and be normal, with no pain, no fatigue, and no crash. This may not sound like a big deal to most people but one year ago this would literally not have been a possibility. My lung function has also improved. I am reminded that it is a privelege to be able to care for my family again and be able to just run errands and meet friends for dinner, like a normal person. On the other hand, if she feels that a visit with a specialist is needed she doesn't hesitate to make a referral. I've never been kept waiting more than a few minutes past my scheduled appt time and have never felt like I was rushed or didn't have time to ask any questions I had. She in fact spent at least an extra 45 minutes with me at one recent visit - I was much sicker than I realized and she recognized right away that I needed to be transferred to the ER. She made all the necessary calls, and kept an eye on my condition until the paramedics arrived. She is prepared to deal with urgent problems like the one I was having but also takes the time to go thru everything health-related at least every year and makes sure that I'm up to date on my vaccines, etc. I feel very lucky to have found such a competent and empathetic medical provider.

While she expressed its importance, and urged I have one, she respected my right to choose. I respect and appreciate that. Also, being she's independent, and not part of a busy practice, with multiple physicians, you're all that matters here. There's not a labyrinth of room filled hallways where you're placed inside an exam room waiting for what feels like forever for a doctor to go "knock-knock". With Marie, it's just you. She's there for you at exam time. No long waits. I'll never again choose anyone other than a nurse practitioner as primary care provider. And as long as Marie is available. I'll not choose anyone other than her. She has her own practice, not an office full of employees. When you call she'll likely answer, not a staff member. If you leave a message she won't take long to respond. If you're forgetful and forget to call in a refill, and you run out, she's responsive. From the moment she walked in the door we both literally thought we had met each other somewhere before. She was great! Very personable, happy and talkative, unlike the experience at Belmar. She asked a lot of questions about the accident and how I was feeling. She actually seemed like she wanted to know and really cared about my pain and the anxiety I now have when driving. She discussed our plan of action on getting some physical therapy done to help with my recovery. When I left her office almost an hour later I was so happy to have found a doctor in Colorado that I felt comfortable with! I was so excited that before I started the car I had to call my daughter to tell her. I have new insurance, and was looking to establish care (for annual exam only). I found this…read morepractice via my insurance website. They asked me to come in for an initial visit prior to having my annual exam. That's fine, but I mistakenly assumed this initial visit, where nothing other than BP and build was measured, would be considered part of my annual exam and billed as such (my insurance covers one annual exam/year). At this visit, I talked to the NP for about 30 minutes (which included her leaving the room twice to deal with another patient--I was nice and didn't complain about this although it was inappropriate). She asked me to schedule my exam in approximately a month. This weekend I received a bill for this initial visit. I called the office to verify whether this initial visit was considered part of the annual exam; it is not. So I'm paying for a 30 minute conversation that was not valuable to me in any way. My suggestion to this practice is to let patients know up front they will be paying for an initial conversation if they want to establish care there. It's not a huge amount of money, but it's money out of my pocket for zero return. There are plenty of practices that will provide quality, efficient care without taking advantage of their customers in this way, and I will be moving my care to one of them.

I tried to contact yelp to have it deleted and am still trying to accomplish that, but anybody who is lucky enough to be seen by this doctor will not regret it. I can't say much other things that other reviews haven't said, but he is hands down the most caring doctor you will find. I believe his practice has been full and I regret having to have left for financial constraints at the time, but it was my loss. As you can see, he doesn't need anymore positive reviews, but deserves every single one he receives and if I had the opportunity, I'd have him as my GP.
