What we found was a very solid Habitat for Humanity restore with some very nice employees. For those who haven't been in a restore before, it's exactly that. A thrift store for household goods. Many of the items are a little on the dated side, but retro is certainly in and there's enough good stuff among the piles. My better half has more than once stopped in to get Barnwood or reclaimed wood for building signs and other pleasantries around our place. Here, they've got plenty of reclaimed doors, A good selection of lighting and just about anything else you need for projects around the home. The proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity and it's nice that things stay within the community. They're open Wednesday through Saturday here 9 to 5 and accept donations Monday through Saturday 9 to 5. The donation area is around back and it's worthwhile to call before hand just to make sure somebody's around. They also schedule pick up at your home for larger items, which is nice! Well worth checking out and note that while the address is on Mead, it's about two blocks off of the main road alongside a warehouse. It feels like Google maps is taking you to some dark alley, but don't worry it's a dark alley with a Habitat for Humanity restore at the end!

It is one of 30 such set ups in the nation and the only one in a rural area. Junior achievement world is set up like a small town with businesses inside. The businesses are primarily local with some large national chains present as well. The premise of junior achievement is to teach young people about money and finances. After completing a course through their school, they are able to come down here and participate in a day where they are given scenarios and play out in real life situations as they pertain to finances. In the Yakima Valley, fifth graders and eighth-graders come here to learn about real world finances and today it has been a huge success! This is totally worth checking out and the lessons taught in the schools are fantastic. They go kindergarten through 12th grade and build on each other. This program and the set up at Junior cheap in the world are going to be hugely valuable now and going forward!

I was told that the pup I chose was 1/2 Pit Bull & 1/2 Siberian Husky. They said that the man who…read moredropped off the litter had a female dog who got pregnant while he was at work & so he was dropping off the litter to be adopted. We are doubtful of any Pit Bull in our pup & there is certainly no Siberian Husky. We're pretty sure she's at least part Mastiff. That's a significantly different dog. I get that they were going on what they were told, but based on what our pup & her siblings looked like, I'd think that folks who specialize in dog care (especially the vet who fixed them) would have acknowledged the discrepancies in the breed. We didn't realize until we got her home, took her to our vet, & did some research that we had a dog that will likely be 20-40 pounds larger than we expected. We love her & we're so glad to have her, but I think this place is churning out the animals at such a rate that does an injustice to the dogs & their future owners. Also, while going through the registration process, I witnessed them have to clear up an error with labeling & tracking a kitten in their care. They'd sent one to the vet to be fixed but the vet discovered it had the same name of a kitten that had already been there. For a short while, they didn't know which one was at the vet. Errors happen but they seemed especially boggled by this. I will note, too, that I was impressed when I received a call from them a couple of weeks after our adoption because one of our pup's littermates had contracted Parvo. They wanted to ensure our girl was healthy & to warn us to be on the lookout for symptoms.

I was looking for a helpful organization that helped those that are truly in need. I contacted YWCA…read moreand they advised they took women's clothing donations to help those using their multitude of services. A great, independent, proud woman in my life (mom) had recently passed away and she would have wanted her great wardrobe to go towards helping other women become great, independent and proud in their own ways. The staff at the front desk we're extremely polite and helpful. They allowed me to use their cart to bring all of the clothes into the building and gave me a receipt. They explained their services for women and all the uses the clothing would be put towards. I left the YWCA feeling like I had definitely picked the right institution for helping others. I'd definitely recommend the YWCA as an organization to donate items and for all of their great programs for women.
