I like to combine a visit to Ally Pally Farmers Market with a leisurely Sunday late-morning stroll…read morealong the Parkland Walk from Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace...by the time I get to the latter destination, I usually have walked up quite an appetite and the offerings at this market are a pleasing sight for sore feet. There's nothing "special" about this Farmers Market in terms of what kind of stalls are there: the usual stall selling bangers, a Middle Eastern food stall, Jamaican/Carribean food and of course fruit and veg stands, meats, and other delicacies...a paradise for the London Yuppie! The tricky part about this Farmers Market is that its location switches depending on whether or not there's something going on at the convention centre within Alexandra Palace: if that is the case, the parking lot - where the market typically takes place - is used for its intended purpose and the Farmers Market will be relocated to a nearby school yard. My tip: I usually never know where it will be, but I'm just following the string of people with shopping bags...

It's not large, but the selection is excellent: homemade pies, organic fruit and veg, cheese, sausages and other meats, including a man who sells pigeon breast -- not appetising at all, but my cats would love it if I was the type of person who would spend £1 for a tablespoon of meat. Speaking of birds, I'm a sucker for free range eggs from chickens that roam around in fields. One of the vendors sells "ugly eggs," those with flaws in the shells for 80p a half dozen. Vendors who sell things grown and made locally can have a stall every week, others are only allowed to sell their wares once a month.

Amazing breakfast and brunch/lunch!!…read more Tucked away off the main street, this hidden gem is super cosy and comfortable, perfect for sharing food, coffee and stories with a couple of friends. Fresh, super tasty and lots of rich flavours. We shared the vegetarian breakfast, pancakes with jam and maple syrup as well as the bread selection, all delicious! The cornbread is particularly tasty. I'd love a place like this in my own neighbourhood!

To the delectable baked cakes and breads. Everything just feels so tactile and earthy. There's lovely light streaming in the huge front windows if you're sitting inside. Or sit out in the front in the sun. There are brollies in the summer and blankets in the autumn. Pointer - have the tea. Even if you feel like coffee, have the tea! Honestly it's an experience. An olive-wood board with a selection of painstakingly-sourced ingredients : honey, lemongrass, cardamom, fresh mint, cinnamon stick, the list goes on, and a pot of hot water. Yes, you have the option of using the dull little bag of tea leaves you ordered BUT you'll be sacrificing your ingenuity and an opportunity to create a flavour-extravaganza. Throw the bag away, you don't need it! Customers are overwhelmingly mums, grandparents and girlfriends meeting to natter. Recently I sat next to two laptops with people connected to them, but they're a minority.

I was grooving to the Highgate frequency when I stopped in here to get a spinanch/hummus sandwhich and a soy shake, This store isn't that overpriced considering the location across the street from Highgate Wood. Deli and Delights has a nice selection of Blue Dragon soup, Seggiano sauce (makers of the best pesto sauce around) and loads of expensive chocolates. I felt fabulous shopping here.

(I'm not actually vegan; the pesto is just wonderful!) You know that you've found indulgence when you've found a shop that sells tea in pillows rather than bags. You know when you've found love when you've found a shop that sells organic lime and tequila marmalade. The place is just outside Highgate Underground station and one of the first places I shopped when I first moved here. The place is small, not particularly pretentious but very artisan and supplies more simple things such as a small selection of frozen foods and toiletries. I try not to come here as I do tend to raid the antipasti and the weird and wonderful marmalade. So much quality so much temptation and worth a visit.
