But after much research on TripAdvisor, I was able to narrow it down to Monterosso and then eventually to this gem of a hotel. The location is great! It's a bit further from the sea, but you are literally steps away from the main town walkway; so you're right next to restaurants, shops, everything. It's only a 10 minute walk into the area where the train station is too, so really convenient. The room is shaped a bit awkward, but it works, just be careful, as I slipped and bruised my whole backside in the shower due to the awkward shape and mismatched flooring!! Ouch! We weren't able to secure a room with a sea-view unfortunately, (tip: book early!), but we did have a view of the town and it was nice to have a private balcony to relax on. The room was very clean and the best comfortable. The customer service was wonderful. Upon entry, we were greeted with cold wine and snacks to enjoy on their rooftop, panorama-view balcony. That was sooo nice! They even took care of our luggage, moving it to our rooms while we relaxed upstairs in the sun. The hotel staff also gave us maps an had many recommendations on how to organize our time. Overall it was a really good stay. The cost is a bit more than what I would expect for the room, but I think it's just pricey in Cinque Terre, that's all.

We had two rooms, one of which was an accessible room, during Swarthmore College's Garnet Weekend. We arrived just at regular check-in time, and as promised our rooms were ready for us. My mother stayed in the accessible room, and we stayed in a standard room on the same floor. The accessible room was positively enormous, with two queen beds and a foldout sofa. Our room was smaller but still spacious. I was a little concerned that we would be bothered by noises and lights from the parking lot, but the windows and the blackout shades did their job and we weren't bothered by any of the early-morning comings and goings. Our room had a king bed and a sofabed. If necessary, a curtain could be pulled to provide some degree of privacy. We slept very well all three nights, though it would have been nice if the pillows were a little more substantial. There was a kitchenette with a sink, microwave, and fridge/freezer that wasn't full-sized, but wasn't a compact dorm fridge either. The bathroom had a roomy shower but no tub (which is our preference). Breakfast was just okay. On the first day I think there was something wrong with the waffle batter because it was pretty sour. It wasn't an issue on subsequent mornings. For other hot items there were a variety of breakfast sandwiches with different combinations of meat, egg, cheese, and bread type. These were fine but a little salty. Not much in terms of fruit options. There were a few cereals, oatmeal, and the standard array of beverages as well. Remarkably, despite how full the hotel was (a lacrosse team was staying there), the breakfast was never too crowded to find a seat. There's a small exercise room with dumbbells, four different cardio machines, and multi-exercise weight machine. The TV screen on the exercise bike was actually operational with a full array of channels, which was kind of surprising because these rarely seem to work at other hotels that I've stayed at. There's an indoor pool, but unfortunately I didn't bring my suit with me on this trip. The hotel staff was pretty friendly. At check-in, as Hilton Honors members, we each received a water bottle and a cookie. When my mom went to breakfast on her own, the staff sat down to chat with her a bit. Very nice. Our only slight nit is that we didn't receive any housekeeping during our stay, even though it was supposed to be every two nights. We did receive fresh towels but the bed wasn't made and I'm not sure if the bathroom was cleaned. Still, it was a very comfortable experience in a convenient location for us.

Thanks to the wonderful lady at the front desk of day of check in, she was able to get us checked in by 4:15pm because we had to be somewhere by 5pm. She made what could have been not a great start into a lovely on. The rest of our 2 days were fine, we didn't use any of their amenities other than the breakfast which was fine. This is all until the last day before check out when I was walking my dog outside (dog friendly hotel), and he was startled by an employee coming out causing him to yelp out which frightened her and caused her to hide back in the building. While I understand some people might be scared of dogs, and I attempted to ease her mind that my small 15lb dog was not going to hurt her, it was an uncomfortable situation to say the least. Then I went back inside to have some breakfast but the yogurt machine appeared to be empty. I planned to ask the person working there setting everything up but when I said "excuse me," I was returned with a tone and attitude (which I am not saying lightly as I don't usually have an issue with tones) "if you're going to ask about the yogurt machine, it's not working!" I honestly could have dealt without the tone at 7am. Overall, I would stay here again if there is nowhere else to stay.

We liked that many of the staff have visible body decoration (piercings and tats). That shows tolerance of "different" personal styles. The room was fairly quiet with no more road noise than would be expected from a hotel near a highway. Breakfast was as good as could be expected from this type of hotel these days and, being prepackaged, made it easy to take a few items for snacks when on the road. The shower in the room was excellent and roomy. The bed was quite comfortable and there was enough ambient light that the lack of a nightlight was no problem. Negative nitpicks - had the room been darker, some kind of a nightlight would have been appreciated. I was surprised that there was no small foldable suitcase stand so we had to leave the suitcase on the floor, making it harder to reach. It would have been nice to have had the option of cocoa in addition to coffee or tea either in the room, the lobby, or both. And I'm not sure that a room with a small kitchen area and no real table should be called a suite. But those are nitpicks - overall, our experience was quite positive and we'd definitely stay there again.

The 2 Queen bed room that we stayed in was designed and laid out like any other SpringHill Suites hotel we've stayed in with the shower and toilet placed in separate rooms. However, the room and hotel, in general, had signs of it being worn out a bit - like old elevators and cracks. The complimentary breakfast, which goes from 6-9 AM on weekdays and 7-9:30 AM on weekends, was subpar compared to our other SpringHill Suites experiences. They did have a hot breakfast, but the scrambled eggs and turkey sausage patties weren't great and mostly dry. There were some cereals, bagels and oatmeal, but that was pretty much it when it came to the food. As for beverages, they had your typical juices (apple, orange, cranberry), individual chocolate and reduced fat milks (which was nice) and coffee. Oh, and to top off the subpar experience, they charge you $15 per night if you park here. Don't think I've ever paid to park at a Marriot hotel, but there's always a first. Overall, not the best Springhill Suites, but it's probably still better than 90% of hotels out there.

Like a combination of spicy food and body odor. I had them come up and spray but it didn't help much. The hotel was sold out and I had to tough out the nasty smell all night. The chair at the desk in the room was broken. It wouldn't stay at the height and kept sliding down so low and tilting back. Unusable. Asked for another chair and they brought up one not even close to tall enough to use. Ended up having to do 2 hours of laptop work on a very uncomfortable ottoman. Apparently they started sneakily charging $15/night for parking. I've stayed here each year for the last 5 years and never had a parking charge before. The gym stationary bike had paint splatter all over it. Can't believe they didn't clean it off. The late night front desk gal wreaked of cigarette smoke. Not sure what happened to this place. Probably a change of ownership. I won't be back because it's now on par with a Best Western or Holiday Inn. Marriott needs to keep better tabs on its franchisees.

Check-in was smooth, but the Hilton Honors welcome bag was a little disappointing (just two bottles of water and a couple mints). We had a room at the end of the hall on the top floor, which was nice because there was a large wedding party staying at the hotel and we were far away from any potential noise. Our room was quite spacious, with a sitting area that could have easily accommodated a second king-sized bed. The lighting was a little dim - the entryway was bright, but the room otherwise only had a corner lamp on one end of the room, a table lamp on the desk, and two lamps on either side of the bed. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows were not as fluffy as we would like. They were feather pillows that compressed quite a bit when you lay your head on them. They also were smaller than typical king bed pillows. The TV was mounted on the wall between the bed and the couch, so it was at a 90 degree angle from both. Though it did swivel about 45 degrees in both directions, there was no way to watch TV straight on unless you were sitting at the desk in the middle of the room. The bathroom was also spacious and brightly lit, with plenty of counter space. The towels were soft and fresh. The water pressure in the shower was excellent, but it took a long time for the water to warm up. The free breakfast was good, but not spectacular. I always enjoy the waffle machines, and thankfully there wasn't too long of a wait to use them on both mornings. The eggs / omelets were a little flat (I believe they are premade and frozen and shipped to the hotel to be reheated). The sausage links were good and moist. The muffins were a bit on the dry and hard side. There were limited fruit options (bananas and apples). The orange juice was a little watery. So, this is about what I'd expect from a Hampton Inn. This place has the added advantage of being very close to downtown Media, with a lot of dining options. I guess that makes it somewhat unique among the Hampton Inn chain, which tend to be on the outskirts of town or more commercial / industrial areas. We'd certainly consider staying here again.

They had just repaved the parking lot, that day, and half of it was closed off. We found a spot when we got there to check in during the late afternoon, but my Brother went out late night and came back and there were no spots. Thankfully, they let him park his car under the overhang by checkin and our car was still there in the morning ;-). We also had a room on the first floor and when we got inside, the AC didnt work. It wasn't too hot, but I need my AC in the hotel for white noise and I like to sleep cold. The front desk guy switched our rooms right away when I brought it to his attention, so that was good. Would I stay here again? Yeah, probably. The room and beds were comfy and it was located near where we had to be.

It pains me greatly to downgrade the Inn from its previously lofty perch as the near-perfect…read moreno-fuss hotel to merely adequate, and at the price, not such a great deal anymore. What confused me during our stay was we had two rooms, one an accessible room on the third floor, and the other a queen double on the second. I have stayed in both these areas before. The accessible room seemed unchanged. The second floor was very odd. First off, the fantastic soundproofing seems to have vanished -- at least, inside the hotel. The outside is still inaudible, as it was built to shield guests from the sounds of trains. But inside? I could hear our neighbors talk, I could hear their alarms, I could hear the elevator ding and the machinery (it was four doors down, so not that close). There were odd sounds from machinery in the walls and the HVAC systems I don't remember. Then we had a weekend with basically no hot water and no water pressure. Oh, the water trickled out, but it did so at a very tepid temperature and with less pressure than even any water-restricted California shower I've ever seen. I've never ever had such a problem here before. Then a local friend said they'd had renovations and added capacity. Did they -- gut the rooms and subdivide? That would account for the fact the room seemed smaller than I remembered; it would account for having lost the internal soundproofing but not the external, if they did a terrible job at the renovation; and perhaps they didn't bother to upgrade the floor hot water heater (our family member in the accessible room on the third floor did not seem to have this problem), or the plumbing capacity, and what we were getting was water at low pressure after everybody else on the floor had used it. (Although I had the same problem the middle of the day Saturday as I did Saturday and Sunday morning). I won't hold the pathetic EV charger situation against the Inn per se, since it apparently is a college problem: the chargers are limited to four hours! At a slow level 2 J-1772, this meant we got about 15% charge a day. This is ludicrous. I am willing to pay for the charge (the four hours a day is free) if I can, you know, actually charge the car. Limiting it to four hours on the basis of demand is pointless; all the spots were filled on Friday, and none of them charging, because it turns out they were all occupied by staff members of the college who went home at the end of the day and occupied the spot for eight hours, charging only four. The college's commitment to EVs seems -- I can't use a word that expresses this properly. Inconsistent with its avowed Zero by 2035 goals. (All the chargers on campus are the same, and there aren't that many of them, plus you can't use them if you're a visitor, anyway.) The location is perfect if you are visiting the college, but there's a lot going wrong here right now and I'm very, very disappointed. The staff are still extremely nice (especially housekeeping) so I can't downgrade it all the way, but this is worse than the Hampton Inn in Media now, for half again as much each night. There's only so much I'm willing to pay for location.

However, the most recent renovations made at the hotel have negatively impacted my opinion of the establishment. ROOMS Let me first start by saying The Inn at Swarthmore had some of the largest rooms I encountered in a hotel establishment. In layout, they closely resembled a dorm which made sense because of the relative closeness to Swarthmore college. The hotel recently made renovations that decreased the size of the standard rooms by at least 50%. In addition, I encountered an issue with the bathroom no longer having working exhaust fans which can create an issue in the future for a buildup of bacteria, mold and mildew. SERVICE The service I received at The Inn at Swarthmore has always consistently been a top above average and I've never encountered an issue. Besides the issue with the room, I always marvel at the wood used throughout the establishment. Despite the beauty of the establishment , the changes made to the rooms have changed my perspective of the establishment and I can no longer recommend it as the greatest value proposition.
