When our pipes burst, we went here for replacements. The plumber himself goes there, not only for jobs on our house but for his own. Everyone here demonstrates their knowledge and acts as a complete professional. They're warm, kind, fun, and the store is pet-friendly. We've picked paint for our house from here. They also have an adjoining gardening shop where we got pumps for our basketballs and my bike. They also can get plywood or other building materials because they work with contractors, and they will candidly recommend whether you need to go somewhere else to get a part you need--which has only happened once to me in my experience; they just didn't have it in stock at the time, but they wanted me to fix my machine that day. 10 / 10

"You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant Walk…read moreright in it's around the back Just a half a mile from the railroad track You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant" (Arlo Guthrie) Alice could easily get anything she wants for her restaurant right here on Progress Lane in Waterbury. Imagine a store as big as a Home Depot that only sells restaurant stuff. It's like a Disneyland full of trays, pots and pans, mixing machines, ice makers, bar equipment, pizza paddles, ovens, fryers, griddles, bar stools, slicers, and pretty much anything you have ever seen in or need for a restaurant. I don't own a restaurant, but I definitely developed a greater appreciation for what it really takes to operate one. Wine glasses, bowls, plates, cutlery, fry baskets, big knives, spatulas, gloves, bowls as big as a witch's cauldron, bathroom signs, dining room chairs and barstools, slotted spoons, whisks, chef clothing, big pans and serving trays, coffee stations, chopping boards, a tortilla press, even French Fry cutting machines. We saw them all. And then there were the huge things like deli showcases and enormous dough mixing machines that reminded me of land locked cement mixers. What a fun time we had wandering the aisles and gawking at everything. I've truly never seen a store like this before. Its open to the public and no membership is needed to gain entry. So what did we buy? We replaced an old plastic one pint measuring cup that was getting impossible to read. The new one ($3.99) is very sturdy and super clear to read. We also bought a nifty 10-cut pie and cake marker ($5.99) that will come in handy on Thanksgiving. We had a blast !!

Nothing hand crafted is cheap these days, and the prices here do reflect that notion for the most part. But do credit CBPots with offering some low cost items, for the folks who would feel bad if they didn't at least buy one thing from the quiet little store in the middle of nowhere. That would include me. So I got a cute little mortar and pestle for $12. Useful in the kitchen, and a living testament to local artistry. Also very clever is their French butter keeper. I won't describe it in detail, but it's a little device that allows you to keep butter or margarine at room temperature without going bad. At $30, it's kinda pricey, but very unique. They also do lamps, servingware, vases, planters... pretty much anything that you'd expect to find at a pottery. They even have a small but impressive Shaker furniture selection upstairs. So if you love pottery, or are just curious where the wealthiest 1% spend the money that they don't know what to do with, this is definitely the place to see it.
