Did you know our local fire department is dually trained as firefighters and EMT. It's amazing to see all of the compartments and equipment they contain to handle any situation. We enjoyed seeing several varieties of police vehicles and equipment. Cars, jeeps, a tanker and a robot. A K-9 officer was onsite as well. The inside of a crime lab van was interesting and full of various supplies used for investigations. We got to go inside and tour the dispatch center and the jail. Unfortunately we missed Safety Town. The day also included lunch and ice cream treats from 2 great food trucks. Popcorn, water and face painting were also available. It was hot but a great day learning about those who protect and serve our community. The mayor along with board members and council members were there mingling and answering questions.

But Saint Louis Lambert is open (and my flight was on time!). So why the heck are the highways in the Saint Louis area still half-heartedly plowed? I'm not referring to the surface streets - that's the county and the city. I'm talking about the Interstate highways around the airport! This afternoon around 4pm, I-70 yo I-170 south from the airport to Clayton there was one half-hearted plowed lane. The exit ramps? Not even slightly. If I had known that they would be this bad, I'd have paid Lyft extra for an SUV or just taken the metro. Instead, my driver was trying hard in a front wheel drive Camry! This is the "Show Me State"? I'd say that you've shown me a disaster. Were y'all watching the game shows instead of the Weather Channel? [Review 16 of 2025 - 401 in Missouri - 23589 overall]

I just moved to Kirkwood last week and had to drop by City Hall in order to setup my utilities and obtain an occupancy permit. Upon arrival, I was immediately pointed in the right direction by a pleasant lady who just happened to see me standing there confused. Between her, the woman who helped me with the occupancy permit, and the woman who helped me setup my utilities, I could not be any happier with their customer service. First rate all around. On top of that, I was in and out of the building with everything I needed within 10-15 minutes and was warmly welcomed to Kirkwood by everyone I spoke with. This experience was so fast, so easy, and I wish all governmental operations functioned in this fashion.

Although a worldwide organization, the Kansas City branch is very new and very small, with only two…read moreemployed staff members on board, they appreciate all the volunteers they can get! For those who do not know what Make-A-Wish does (I will refers to it as MAW now for the sake of space) it is a non-profit organization that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses. All proceeds go towards local children who are being helped by this charity, which is one of its great "sellers" - being that the money raised stays in Kansas City to help its children out. I joined as a volunteer earlier this summer and raised over $1,000 for MAW at the office I was working at and I was able to do this easily because of its name recognition and overall purpose. I have been so encouraged by this organization's spirit, being so positive and influential an environment to work in. The two Kansas City based employees are absolutely wonderful! They have a weekly newsletter updating everyone on the upcoming events planned for children or asking for volunteers at a baseball game or something like that where wish-children will be present. I can't rave enough about this organization because its spirit is contagious and I think if more people in the area knew we had an active branch in Kansas City there would be more volunteering and excitement throughout the community, so I'm spreading the word!

Make A Wish has set a new standard for being horrible. In Blue Springs they leave stuff out for 2-3 WEEKS yes WEEKS at a time. Couches, TVs, and all types of junk. I have seen their donation boxes at other places, including Liberty and it is almost as bad. Everyone should call them and complain when they see this happening until Make A Wish can figure out how to do their job or just quit doing it and get their trash collection boxes out of here because that is all they are at this point.
