But don't get me wrong, the centre still boasts a large collection of big stores such as Poundland, WHSmith and Iceland, which are all greatly needed for the Northfield locals. It means that they don't have to travel elsewhere for their necessities. The overall aesthetics of Northfield's precinct are very outdated and generic, however, the actual shops themselves are varied when compared to the usual shopping centres of Brum. It's the independent shops that make the centre different, and there's a great collection of clothes stores for all ages and genders, from the men's shop Little Italy, to the girl's clothes accessories shop Miss Bizybody. I was quite surprised at the actual size of the centre, and expected it to be much smaller for the area (considering that there's quite a few shops on the Bristol Road outside as it is.) The centre is a great find, and is definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

They also keep quite a lot of stock in boxes outside the front of the store, so I have often spent time rooting around trying to find stuff. I do not like this aspect of the store; I would prefer it all to be easy to find and well organised. It is a great store, but it is a bit disorganised.

I personally hate seeing everybody wearing the very same garment that you bought a month ago from the very same chain store! Little Italy is full of one off men's clothing (or batches made specifically for the shop), so you never have to worry about blending in with everybody else. Although, I have to say, other than a few unusual patterned t-shirts, the type of fashion is not really to my taste. The shop would be perfect for the trendier men out there though! Prices are average, and most t-shirts cost around £10, which is general to most chain retailers; So you're getting something unique for the same price. It's a shame that shops such as this are hidden away in shopping centres outside of the city centre. I can see this store being very popular if it were located in central Brum.

Jane Norman is a night of "crying hoochie mama with a broken heel and the phone numbers of three…read moremen in her bra" outfit waiting to happen. Every single item of clothing in the store is sized one size too small, designed to either cover as little of a girl as possible, or to cover but cinch in and accentuate. It's a store for women who don't want a bit of mystery, but want it all hanging out. So of course, I've bought several items from there, including the dress for my Hen Night! If you're a larger lady, please PLEASE avoid Jane Norman. Big CAN be beautiful, but it is definitely nothing but awkward if big is spilling out of waist-cinching wriggle dresses. Jane Norman's sizes only go up to 18, most likely for the reason listed above. Depending upon your shape, the clothes can make or break you. If you're bigger in the middle, I'd avoid Jane and shop elsewhere. If you have a more classic hourglass figure, or even a pear shape, with a smaller tummy, the clothes will suit you fine. Most of the items are made in a style I would describe delicately as "Eastern European call girl" -- lots of bright, flashy colours and shiny elastane. But they've started doing a demure 50s-era range of wiggle dresses that are perfect for the ofice (with a jumper or blazer, so as not to get the IT boys fired for indecent exposure), but also sexy enough to go out in after -- perfect for the City, if you combine them with classy accessories. Jane is reasonably priced if you're looking for party dresses to go out in a few times. I wouldn't do most of my shopping there, but it is a good laugh. The sales girls are always very helpful.

Other than having the most modern, fast and cleanest lift which I've seen in an Urban Outfitters store, it really didn't impress me as much as their Manchester and Liverpool stores. The music around the store was far too loud, which again didn't seem to be a problem at their other locations. The first floor is much larger and they do have some cool, novelty items which you'd expect to find at any Urban Outfitters including a photo booth. The store cleanliness was poor with items just thrown on the floor and staff appearing to make no effort of tidying the store up. 2* - A good brand with some cool novelty items but they really do need to work on increasing standards similar to other UK stores and even going one better.
