I have been lucky enough to fish on this boat a couple times a year. This year, my first charter this year, they wanted a one day Mexican permit fee ($20/day) which I paid them for even though we only fish on the backside of San Clemente Island. My second trip was a two day trip and they again asked everyone for two days Mexican permit fee (went ok to $40/day) yet they fished on the backside of San Clemente island. I don't know why the office is asking us for a Mexican permit when the fish bite was in or near the backside of San Clemente island. They won't even give me a receipt when I pay the charter master. read more

One of the best fishing boats I've been on. We went out the last day and caught boat limit of bluefin with extra yellowtail, and yellowfin for some. The boat captain and crew were beyond helpful in every way. For even those who are learning to fish the crew made sure everyone had a chance to catch a fish and had a hook on their line. These guys are as good as it gets, great crew, boat, and fishing. This was me second SD multi-day trip and it was 1,000 times better than the other boat I went on. Pretty much everyone told me that these guys were the best, so I booked the whole boat for a 2.5 day trip with 21 buddies. The crew worked their asses off, and we ended up with 115 35-55lb tuna and lost one kite fish that was well over 300. The deckhands had zero attitude and were very helpful, showing us the SD knot, how to hook live bait, what line and hooks to use, etc... I am a NW tuna charter captain and fairly critical of most charters, but I can't imagine how these guys could do a better job, which is pretty rare in this business. As soon as we hit the dock, we all agreed to book them for a 2.5 trip next year and we cant' wait. These guys are the best. Book them if you can. read more

Over the last three years, my son and I have taken several overnight fishing trips on the New Lo-An. We continue to return to the New Lo-An for the following reasons: 1. The New Lo-An has a wonderful family business culture. The boat seems to be able to keep crew members for years. 2. The crew is professional, experienced, and has a genuine desire to get as many fish on board as possible. 3. The New Lo-An consistently produces results that are above average when compared to boats of the overnight fleet. Recently, we took a trip on the New Lo-An and the fishing was not as expected. Captain Adam put us on the fish but the fish did not want to bite. Despite that fishing was not good, the crew maintained a positive attitude. In fact, we arrived back at the dock 30 minutes late due to the crew's efforts to catch fish. Before we returned to the dock, Capitan Adam announced that the boat would be giving every passenger a $100 coupon towards their next New Lo-An trip. The coupon was an unexpected surprise as most of the passengers I spoke with know fishing is called fishing and not catching for a reason. My only hope is that the boat consider stocking local San Diego craft beers. If you are considering what overnight or day and half boat to take, my recommendation would be the New Lo-An. read more

My 24 year old daughter and I went out on the New Lo-An for an overnight trip on Friday July 19 and had an amazing time. We caught our limit of yellowtail and a yellowfin tuna. The whole crew was great and made the trip enjoyable for everyone. When fish started hitting, even the captain came down to personally help my daughter and me catch fish. By far the best overall fishing boat I've been on. I usually go with Pac Queen but it was booked so I give New Lo An a shot. I was amazed by Capt. Mark, Adam, Buzz and Matt. All of them were very knowledgeable and put us on nice school of blue fin tuna. On top of that, deckhand Ben and Owen was eager to help when you needed. Both 2 day trip meal was included so chef raul was cooking nonstop from breakfast lunch to dinner and not to mention snacks in between meals. read more

July 21st 2017. Debating Point Loma because of Google reviews. Decided to go on the New Lo An since the boat came highly recommended by a friend. I had never been on the New Lo An before. The boat has a nice platform for fishing, roomy and double stack rod holders. The galley is smaller than some but comfortable with a nice breeze. The food was excellent! Homemade burgers and potato salad. Not like your mom used to make, even better! Steve is an excellent Chef/Cook. The deckhands were helpful and on point with helping with tangles and tagging fish. No attitudes or poor service and the fish cleaning was done proficiently and without wast. Adam was captain on this overnighter and did beyond an excellent job. We beat the fleet that trip and Adam was definitely the key to that! The bunk room was a little hot but they are fairly spacious. Be aware that if you get the top bunks in the center of the bunk room they do not have walls separating your neighbor next door but could be nice if you were bringing along the wife. Mitch's seafood is located on the dock so you can grab some dinner before you head out but set aside some time because they are busy. All in all I can see why this boat has 5 stars even if Point Loma doesn't. Nothing bad to say at all. Thanks for a great trip guys... read more

Returned today from my second 1.5 day on the New Lo-An. I am new to fishing for tuna and made it a point to try other boats this year. The New Lo-An is my favorite by far! The boat is immaculate, in better shape and cleaner at the end of the season than others at the beginning of the season. Clean and working heads are very important and the crew check/clean it so often the waste basket never filled with paper towels on either trip. The crew takes great care of the boat, constantly washing the decks and keeping it clean. The crew are also some of the most helpful and friendly that I have experienced. On both trips we had extreme difficulty finding fish, but captain Adam worked his tail off to get us on tuna and succeeded in the end both times. Matt and Markus did a great job on the deck teaching this newbie the ins and outs of bluefin fishing, showing patience and great customer service for all onboard. Kairie is a magician in the galley, providing gourmet chow. I caught a bluefin on my first trip in June but got shut out this trip. Disappointing, but it was made much more pleasant by the crew and a well maintained vessel. Overall I have had a fantastic experience on the New Lo-An and I look forward to many more trips in the coming seasons! read more

The New Lo-An is FANTASTIC. Captain Markus and his crew: John, Paul, Mikey, and Travis were all so helpful. We left on an overnight trip Friday 10pm 8/7/09 and got back Sat. The crew was amazingly helpful and full of knowledge. The Capt even came down and had some fun too! Just see the photos and youl'l see why. This boat is by far my favorite off shore sports fishing. Fishing can be a bit scratchy at times. You catch sometimes and then you come home empty handed at times. One thing is for sure, Markus, the captain, will do whatever it takes to put you on fish. That is a given each and everytime I fished with him. He goes that extra distance. He simply does not like to give up on looking for fish and putting you on one. As for the deckhands Kristina and Anthony "tiny", they are the finest deckhands you will ever come across. The new cook, Will, what a phenomenal cook he is. He use to work on the "vegabond" long range boat as a cook, I knew he was going to be a good one and he did not disappoint! A group of friends chartered a 2 1/2 day trip on the New Lo Ann. The captain Adam no Young is knowledgeable and very experience. We focused on catching bluefin tuna and that we did, it appeared that everyone on the charter caught a bluefin or two along with yellow tail. The crew was excellent, friendly and very helpful. Just returned from my fifth or sixth trip with the crew on the New Lo-An out of Point Loma Sportfishing. As usual, the crew was great! Everyone had a good attitude and strong work ethic, I could tell that these guys take pride in their product. Anytime that I want to fish offshore, the first place I look is the New Lo-An. Just got off the New Lo An out of Point Loma, San Diego. Markus the captain has the most amazing crew, Danny, Chris the cook, and the rest of the gang were fun, helpful knowledgable and all around great group of guys. They know their stuff and would not quit till we got fish. We caught Dorado, Blue Fin, Skip Jack and lots of Yellowtail, we originally planned to do the 3/4 day at H&M on 10-2 and found out they were going to cancel that trip. One of, if not the, finest operation in the overnight/short trip arena in San Diego. Markus Medak is one of the best fisherman and captains in the business. He is well trained, smart and safe. He has a top notch crew that work wonderfully as a team and ensure all anglers on board have a great time. While a catch cannot be guaranteed, I can say with certainty that if there is a fish to be caught on the day you go out, Markus and his team will find it for you!! Can not recommend them highly enough. The only downside is their location at the Point Loma landing where parking is a nightmare. read more

Returned last night from a 1-day trip. It was a spontaneous trip, booked on the New Lo-An. She is a tried and true boat I've fished through the years. So when I heard that the Tuna were biting, we jumped on it. Marcus was the boat captain for this trip, the crew/deck hands were helpful and polite. The bottom line is, we caught fish! The Captain put us on the fish. He found them many times, sometimes they would bite other times they didn't, but the fact remains the same Marcus worked hard to locate fish, chase them down, and in the end we were successful. Blue fin,Yellow fin, Dorado, Yellowtail were caught. The crew was professional and worked very well with the few inexperienced anglers on the boat. The only drawback was the mediocre food. The cook didn't seem to take pride in the quality of grub he was putting out, or to assist. Aside from this minor flaw the New Lo-An remains an outstanding vessel to fish on. Way to go Marcus! June 26-28 1 1/2 day trip. Three of us went out on their open boat. When booking reservations I was told their would be 24 - 28 max people on the boat fishing Offshore mexican water for Blue Fin, Yellowfin Tuna, Yellowtail and Dorado. Trip advertised cost $300. Trip actual cost ( trip, license, rod rental, food) $388+tip What actually happened, 15 minutes prior to departure ( after being there several hours) we were told we needed a California License. On board the boat they filled to capacity with 32 individuals +5 crew. The capt announced due to new Mexican rules we could not keep Bluefin from Mexican waters, therefore we would be fishing California. To shorten the review i will post the pros and cons. Cons- crap bait- less than 2 inches and half dead, there were a few good herring and very rare small bait mackerel thrown in. ( the better baits reserved for kite fishing) those few that were able to get good bait caght fish! - small but comfortable bunks that you get to share with your bags, luggage and gear(very wet and cramped) - Not fishing for/ where I signed up for. -Crap rental gear( yes it had new mono on it) but a standard spool real, 30 lb test, and your supposed to cast out and be able to feel a 1/4 oz bait fish on the end. LOL - limited lunch and dinner menu, 2 items offered for lunch( both greasy, heavy fare) and 3 course chicken cordon blue for dinner. -no food availability off of limited set lunch/ dinner hours - galley seats 16, no other real seating areas. (36 people on board- you do the math) - if rough weather or cold/ raining still expect to be standing out in it alot or in your small cramped bunk! - lousy rotation for limited high catch fishing such as trolling/ kite fishing. Therefore1/3 of the passengers caught almost all of the fish. No shower or cloth changing facilities. Heads could be used but always very wet. Pros - captain and crew were very personable and were willing to help. Outstanding service on their part. - food was good, reasonable priced, huge portions. ( but do you need a 3 course meal when other hungry individuals wait in the weather for their turn to eat?) -boat was in great condition and well stocked Boat totals 50 Bluefin Tuna 20-40#, 1 yellowtail. My small group, 0 fish caght. Recommendations- find another boat that is better suited to its mission My recommendation to the boat- run this as a limited load boat ( 16-20 people) and get some proper bait.
