We had a bar snack sandwich each and was impressed by the staff and the quality of the food, so we had a quick look at the full menu and decided to book a table for that evening. The food is quite traditional, but with a wonderful eastern influence. Beautifully presented with fantastic flavours, every course was a delight and I thought the bill was very reasonable. I've certainly paid more for lesser fare than this! I would heartily recommend anybody who finds themselves in the Barnstaple area check this place out!

It's a little more expensive than your pub chains, but it's well worth it! We've become regulars there, and I don't think we've ever had a bad meal. The portions are large, and the food is of fine quality and locally sourced - they list their suppliers on a black board in the bar. The wine selection is good, there are local ales on tap, and they serve good coffee. We tend not to have desserts simply because we're so full from the main course, but when we have had room for it, their deserts are every bit as good as the rest of the food. The only problem with this place is that it can get very busy, especially for Sunday lunches and during the holidays. Booking is recommended. There are two beer gardens (one out front, one out back), the cosy bar area in the front, and an area that's more like a restaurant in the back, with The Den that can be hired out for functions.

There are lots of benches for you to sit on outside and have something to eat. There are also lots of seats for you to sit down on inside. The pub has a very friendly atmosphere and the staff make you feel welcome. The food is reasonably priced and always tastes good. In the summer it can get very busy but the staff work hard to deal with you quickly.

Inside is really well decorated and the seating is really comfortable. upstairs there is a small dance floor which is opened during weekend nights. People of ages can be found here in this pub and there usually is a friendly atmosphere. Next door to the pub is a small cocktail bar which is linked through to Crabby Dicks where there are lots of yummy cocktails to try. Drinks are very reasonably priced and the bar staff are friendly and polite.
