Similarly it disappoints me when a vegetarian restaurant lacks inspiring dishes instead churning out the same old vegetarian fare on a cheese heavy menu. I don't have a problem with cheese it is delicious but variety and a break-from-the-norm is what I look for in a restaurant and this doesn't hit the spot. If you are after a basic menu, mostly fried then this will do, which I suppose in the winter months this is a welcomed. This is a lovely place, somewhere cosy to warm your cockles after a long walk in the Chevin although there isn't a bar so no whisky to keep chills at bay.

Situated near the Chevin in some beautiful countryside, the Cheerful Chilli is a relaxed and cosy place. The food isn't gourmet but the quality definitely doesn't suffer for that. Rather, it seems as if they've decided to do fairly simple meals and do them really well. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, a bit like walking into a huge old stone-flagged kitchen, brightened up by lovely flowers on all the tables. It's the best of casual dining: unpretentious but attractive, service relaxed but not slow, and staff in T-shirts with friendly smiles and good knowledge of the food. Oh yes, the food. Hoo boy. I'm still so full it's actually hard to think about it. Since we were in a group of six, we decided to go for the 'Banquet' - a selection of starters, mains and desserts from the menu. It was £18.50 and wow... it was definitely value for money. We had a 'pre-starter' meze of two giant plates of couscous, halloumi, falafel, houmous, bread, olives and salad, which really could have been a generous starter on its own. But oh no, there were starters too: potato wedges with cheese, corn cakes with sweet chilli, nachos, and goat's cheese tart. All delicious. To be honest, at this point we could have left satisfied - it felt like we'd had a full meal already! But then the mains arrived: vegetable fajitas, kerala curry, enchiladas, roasted veg and pizza. Again everything was delicious - possibly the only weak point was the pizza which I think was homemade but had been a bit overdone which left it tasting a little like an oven pizza. But everything else was great. Nothing fancy: it was all stuff I could make at home, but just.... better. Hugely flavoursome in a way I can never quite get my dishes to be, and presented beautifully. So on to the desserts! We got wedges of the chocolate truffle cake (rich and divine), the cheesecake (maybe a little creamy for my taste but lovely fruit) and the chocolate nemesis (dark, fudgy, amazing). And what was maybe even better: a huge bowl of vanilla ice cream which was hands down the best ice cream I've ever had. I asked them where they got it and they said they make it themselves. I wonder if they'd consider delivering in bulk...? I couldn't quite believe that we were only paying £18.50 for a lovely meal that could keep you full for days, but yes, it was true. You can bring your own booze too, and they didn't charge corkage - champion! The reasonable-ness just continued with my friend being charged just 70p for the 7-up she ordered: smallest restaurant markup ever? And so we rolled home, vowing to return. I'm already planning a walk up to Otley for this very purpose - I can't think of a better place to welcome tired and hungry walkers!

When we…read morearrived 2 of my mates were already there and one of them said it used to be the Horsforth Social Club, now I remember it was that for years! The restaurant had a relaxed ambience and was ver busy. The staff were very welcoming and our 2 friends were already having a cocktail called woo woo, which they proclaimed were delicious but expensive at £5.40. I tried a bit of theirs and was yummy. The guy, who I assume was the manager asked us if we wanted to stay sitting and he'd get us a drink or go straight to our table. We opted straight to the table as we were starving. At our table, I did notice they were very packed together so they'd certainly tried to put as many tables in as possible but when I sat down, I was still able to breathe!!! A waitress came and took our orders after our drinks arrived. She was friendly and smiley, dressed in an outfit that I assume is Greek(?) 2 of us had calamari, I had sea bass feta flat for main, chicken soulvaka and 2 opted for a sharing vegetarian starter and the Agora Vegetarian Meze a main, also to share. We didn't have to wait long for our food, both starters and main. Plus we all agreed it was delicious. My main came with rice and a cold salad which I wasn't sure to start with but I didn't dwell and it went down a treat. I could've eaten a dessert but was disappointed with the choice. To be fair, the waitress said it out to us and as the place was busy all I heard was cheesecake and chocolate fudge cake. From that point I wasn't interested as I'm not keen on either. My mates ordered a cheesecake to share and they said it was one of the nicest cheesecakes they'd had. I thought prices for the food were reasonable as it was delicious.

I can only comment on the Chapel Allerton branch but I'm sure the food is similarly outstanding at all three. I don't think I have seen another restaurant specialising in Greek food before, let alone Leeds, so this place is a real treat! My boyfriend had a fish dish that looked and smelt so fresh, topped with herbs and lime juice. I went for a vegetarian and traditional Greek meal of aubergine moussaka that came with layers of courgettes and potatoes. It was really filling and definitely worth splashing out on. Having said that, it isn't too expensive compared to other top end restaurants around Leeds. It has won countless acclaim in the restaurant world, as you will see from the signs outside if you pass by. At the moment they are doing offers where you can get 2 or 3 courses for a really good price at certain times - worth checking out for sure.

With five hungry Yelpers in tow, we got a seat in the upstairs bit, and I was instantly endeared by the ambiance, decor and service. Everyone was all smiles, the restaurant is pleasantly done out without being over the top if you want to go casual, and it had plenty of happy diners enjoying the place when we came in. Pretty much all of us opted for the thali, being as it's basically a plate of various exciting dishes, which is always more fun than just having one option! The thali comes with a lassi, sweet or salt, and I'm glad I went sweet. It was delicious, especially with the fennel seeds. The salt wasn't for me (I tried April K's) but it's worth a punt if you're more adventurous. When our food arrived we were discussing ingredients, and so the chap happily chatted with us about each dish, and what ingredients were used, even giving a detailed description of how things are eaten in India - this I loved. I'm a huge fan of learning about other cultures, foods, practices, so it was great to get a picture painted for us before we set to dine. Even more excitingly, we discovered a few dishes were brand new, though don't ask me which ones as I can't remember! In any case, we felt very special. Each of the dishes were a delight on the taste buds, and exciting in their own rights, as well as mixed together. I am a meat eater, but I barely noticed its absence. I also tried the chai tea, which was magnificent, and the pudding that comes with the thali really deserves a mention. It's super sweet and delectable, but sadly I only had room for half of it! In any case, it's a beautiful place, and I'm looking for an excuse to return. Delicious food, paired with such a wonderful and personable service, in ambient surrounds makes for one delightful evening out. I highly recommend!

Hansas is an old Leeds institution, and you can tell why it's stood the test of time. 5 minutes out of Leeds centre (although just over the ring road), it's a little bit set apart from most restaurants, but it's totally worth the walk. The menu is varied, although all vegetarian, and everything I've ever tried has been absolutely beautiful. Everything is reasonably priced, and if there's a group of you they do 'banquet meals' which are a great way to try lots of different dishes. My favourite dish by far is the chilli paneer - devilishly hot and full of flavour. We love Hansas so much we had it for Christmas dinner last year. One word of warning - the food tends to be *very* spicy. If you like it a bit milder, it might be worth asking when you order. Or just order a delicious lassi to go with your meal.

The kind where you probably tried to dance on a table, the kind where you definitely felt as though your neck was broken the next day from head banging, the kind where you almost certainly meet a squadron on new best friends because you're having that good a time. (And it's as much to do with the awesome clientele, as the drunkenness, I can tell you.) So, yes. Go to Sandinista for drinks. I know, it's always busy on a weekend. But once you get in there you'll have an amazing time, I'm certain of it. The music policy includes all the classics, something to suit most tastes, without venturing down the processed pop route in any shape or form. They also have regular live music, I believe, which is also commendable. However, you mightn't have noticed, they also serve food. What's that? Yes. Where have you been?! (That question is mostly directed at my own foolish self.) They serve the most excellent tapas. Of course, you can go down the route of fajitas, and such like, but on this occasion I wanted a range of foods to stuff. Oh my word. So, firstly, a special mention must be made of the mushrooms in peppercorn sauce. They were absolutely flipping divine - perfectly cooked, soaked in flavour, and the sauce was out of this world. The meatballs were also fabulous, with a delicious tomato sauce, and the garlic bread was beautiful. The crispy pork belly was wonderful, and came with an amazing apricot (?) compote (?!). The patatas were also addictively tasty, especially with melted cheese and spring onion. Of course, the service was fantastic, as ever, but the discovery that there's yet another place to eat fantastically made, freshly cooked, delicious bites is the thing I'll be shouting about for the moment. Dishes come in around £4, which makes it incredibly affordable to try a few different things, and perhaps even splash out on one of their yummy cocktails. Of course, there's the danger that you'd go for tea and not quite make it out until 4am, but hey -it wouldn't be such a bad thing would it? In fact, top idea Batman, Sherlock and Brian Cox, you geniuses. Even the door signage says, "You can check out any time you like but you can never leave."
